Moon Phases

Interactive installation by Brady Bei is a physical turntable that visualizes moon phases based on the input of any date:

Moon Phases is an interactive installation created with Yifan Hu that allows the audience to input any date and it will show the moon phase for that night (from the northern hemisphere’s perspective). 

The idea started from my very first processing sketch which is a 2D drawing for moon phases. From there, I started to expand and approach it from different perspective. The moon phases machine is the ultimate work through out the whole journey.

It allows the audience to experience the moon phases’ changing in a tangible and poetic way. At the same time, it is also an educational piecing to learn about not only the moon phases from the past but also for the future.

Shade

Installation by Simon Heijdens is a facade of cellular digital glass that reveals sunlight based on the force of the wind outside - video embedded below:

A cellular glass facade that filters natural sunlight into a moving kaleidoscope of light and shadow, directly choreographed by the elements passing outside, to restore the unplanned natural timeline of the outdoors to the interior of the building. The 140 m2 responsive glass curve transfuses light varyingly throughout the day, from sharp in the morning to ambient in the afternoon. Wind gusts that pass the building outside directly affect the cells in the glass to turn from opaque to clear, thus passing or blocking sunlight to create a dimensional projection of light and shadow onto the floors and walls of the interior space. As the patterns of wind and the quality of light are constantly changing throughout the day, the interior space regains the unplanned character of the outdoors. At night, the principle is inverted, and interior light is filtered to the outside and projects the kaleidoscopic pattern onto the surrounding pavement.

In-development holographic entertainment system hopes to become a future medium for games and art - video embedded below:

Voxiebox is uniquely capable of generating points of light within a volume of space, and in doing so enables the creation of truly 3D experiences that can be viewed from any angle without special glasses.

It has been going for a couple of years but hopefully we will see more of this is 2015. More developers are getting involved - there is one project where a live Kinect feed can be delivered to the display and represented in 3D (crazy!)
