I am beyond pissed at colossal right now. I’ve had to stop watching some of my favorite creators because they partnered with colossal, which is an incredibly shitty thing to do at this time. I don’t know whether they’re being paid or are just ignorant, but seeing Lindsay Ellis on a colossal video broke something in me.

Also, important PSA! For everyone still thinking “well they’re at least cloning red wolves so that their populations will recover, so they’re doing some good”

I’ll link a couple sources that I’d REALLY recommend looking at for context, but my basic summary of the situation is that they cloned a bunch of coyotes from a separate population of canids called the gulf coast canids, and lied about the identity of their cloned “wolves”. This is bad because even these particular coyotes ARE morphologically and behaviorally distinct from red wolves, which means they can’t occupy the red wolf niche. Coyotes are mesopredators that like to hunt smaller prey, and they struggle to occupy the macropredatory niche of wolves. Also, the issue with red wolf conservation was never genetic diversity, it’s a lack of proper habitat and cases of mistaken identity (farmers will shoot a red wolf thinking it’s a coyote, and suddenly the population has drastically reduced).

Also, turns out that ACTUAL red wolf conservation organizations weren’t informed that this was happening! I wanted to fact check this at multiple sources, but seeing the Red Wolf SAFE program say that they weren’t told anything about this cemented it for me that yeah, colossal really did just fucking lie their asses off.

So please, anyone who’s under the impression that colossal is doing anything for actual conservation, know that they’re not. Colossal is such an absurdly, comically evil company, I don’t know how they’re even real. Heck, the CIA has invested in them, and I’m pretty confident that the CIA wasn’t thinking about saving mammoths.

also. this is gross. but i'm quitting smoking and what no one tells you is that for awhile, i saw some ppl online saying up to a year even, that means you're just hacking up like mucus encased tar. cuz apparently there's these hair like things called cilia in your lungs that slowly move stuff upward so you're able to cough it out, and smoking like. 24/7 365 for the past 5 years had my cilia all fucked up, so now it's finally coming back online and being like holy shit you need this out of here NOW.
