My followers know I hate talking about politics and current events, and generally refuse to do so, but this is important.

A bill has been introduced in the US that would make all pornography a federal crime. Owning it. Creating it. Distributing it.

Under this law, fanart of nude characters would be a federal crime.

Under this law, depictions of homosexuality or simply being transgender, would be considered pornography and a federal crime.

This bill is not going to pass.

However, the reason for this bill is to continue to push the "overton window". The reason for this bill is to make banning pornography seem more and more normal to everyone until they can actually do that.

And remember, they consider depictions of gay characters and transgenders characters "pornography" in any context, including platonic.

They have been working on this for a decade now and it has been working.

If you are one of the people in fandom who thinks that "nasty" porn on AO3 should be banned because it's "icky" or "immoral", then this mental scam is working on you.

Censorship is never about protecting people.

Censorship is always about control.

Do not let the rising moral panic affect your mind and make you weak to propaganda that lets others control you and control what you watch and read.

Do not fall for the scam.

When they say they are going to ban "pornography" it means they're going to ban anything they don't like by calling it "pornography" and they don't like you!!

Happy Pride Month, from our queer found family to yours! 💙 We hope to continue telling queer stories, by queer people for queer people, for a long time. Stay safe!

This is not going to be an easy Pride Month. Not at all. Not only is the United States torturing the queer folk within its boundaries and attempting to erase us from public life, but other countries like Hungary are also dealing the same (and worse) blows to their LGBT+ citizens. The world is not an accepting place for us right now. But the only reason it ever became accepting in the first place is because we kept fighting, because we refused to back down. Gay rights was not some magical, peaceful thing granted to us by the oh-so-kind heterosexuals. It is something we DEMANDED. Something we RIOTED for. No respectability politics, no sanitization, no bullshit. We made it happen. And we can keep making it happen. Look at countries that are having wins right now, like Thailand, and see that not all hope is lost. We have to keep our heads up, keep our hopes up, and continue to march ourselves into a better future — for us, and for all the queer kids that will come after us.

The Kids Online Safety Act (KOSA) is back in the Senate. Sponsors are claiming—again—that the latest version won’t censor online content. It isn’t true. This bill still sets up a censorship regime disguised as a “duty of care,” and it will do what previous versions threatened: suppress lawful, important speech online, especially for young people.
