i've been going through my online accounts trying to put everything in one place and delete the millions of project accounts I never use. This has sent me on a journey through years-old posts, when I just started posting fanart for the harry potter fandom. I was in a really rough spot mentally during those years and revisiting old posts makes me so grateful to this community for seeing me and interacting with me when my everyday life outside of tumblr was sad and grey. When I started feeling better and regained some sort of control on my life, I naturally started getting busier with stuff and stopped creating fanworks. These pieces and the community still hold a very special place in my heart though.

i deleted the original post of this illustration from an old blog, but I wanted to keep it on tumblr for old times sake. I think this was the second piece of art I posted ever. The following is the text I had written to go with it:

"I just wish that during the summer before his 4th Year at Hogwarts, Draco would begin to understand the true implications of sharing his parents’ views about the world. Horrified, he would distance himself from anyone with similar beliefs. A few weeks into the school year, he would even muster up the courage to approach Hermione, Ron and eventually Harry to apologize for what he has said and done. By the end of the year, Draco and Harry would have become civil with each other and would actually regularly study together outside in the shade of the trees. One day, they would be taking a break from studying, and Harry would pick a flower from the grass and pretend he is offering to Draco. With a light chuckle, he’d prepare to throw it back into the grass, but Draco would suddenly reach out and brush his fingertips across Harry’s wrist. They would look at each other for a long moment, tiny smiles curling up the corner of their mouths. Then in silence, they would enjoy the warmth of an early summer and a budding relationship that would change the course of the war."

Slytherin: Zero stars. Would not recommend.

Draco drags his washcloth across the wet rings dotting the bar. A chorus of satisfied clinks meets his ears when several glasses get set right back down on the tacky surface. One of them is Potter’s gin and tonic.

“My congratulations,” Draco says without meeting his eyes. “Or perhaps condolences?”

Potter tells him where to shove it, then steals his rag to polish his new badge.

Longbottom sweeps Hannah into the air to spin her. Draco’s always thought white was a dry color and pub lighting was abysmal. Both look good against Potter’s tanned skin though; he’s glowing. The Weaslette seems to agree.

But when they throw the bouquet— hyacinths, blue— Potter ducks away. It hits Draco in the chest.

Potter’s back and asking for absinthe. 

“I like the taste,” he says. Draco raises an eyebrow. “And the proof,” Potter adds sheepishly.

He drinks it like water and Draco watches his lashes fan across his cheeks when he swallows. Potter’s lips are cracked at the corners, but Draco doesn’t think he’d mind kissing the rough skin.

“I broke up with Gin,” Potter says. Draco doesn’t like what the statement does to his chest, so he goes to collect glasses. Potter slumps a bit lower.

Potter starts coming by every Thursday. Draco wonders what’s wrong with Friday. Friday’s a good day for drinking— he himself is off then, and makes it a point to meet Pansy and Luna.

Potter asks him too many questions. Draco finds himself unable to deny him the answers.

“Are you seeing anyone?” Potter asks. He flushes. “It’s just— I’ve been— sort of, with this one bloke, but I don’t think he knows how I feel.”

Draco slams a glass on the countertop. “I’m not seeing anyone,” he snaps angrily.

Potter’s disappeared. Draco hates the sight of the bar. His neck turns unconsciously at every glimpse of dark hair and his throat gets thick when he serves shots. 

He writes letters— long, beautiful professions of an unnamed devotion with no recipient. When he walks his mother’s gardens he stops and sits amidst the hyacinths. They bloom year-round there.

There’s a Potter in his pub.

“What can I get for you?” Draco says. He can’t meet Potter’s eyes. His own are burning and his shirt feels several sizes too tight. 

“This,” Potter says, right before he yanks Draco across the counter by his collar and kisses him with enough enthusiasm that Draco knocks over someone’s pint.

“I thought you were seeing someone,” Draco says in pleased bewilderment. 

“I’m bloody fucking trying to!”

Draco’s not sure how these things work. He thinks he might be doing something wrong because he feels inordinately happy. He smiles in his sleep and stirs four teaspoons of sugar into his tea when he’s not paying attention. It seems questionably sane.

He corners Harry against the couch one night.  “What’s the catch,” Draco says with narrowed eyes.

“You’re such a wanker,” Harry laughs before he bundles Draco up in blankets and cradles him close for the rest of the snowy night.

Harry takes him to Moscow. 

“This is where you came when you left?” Draco asks incredulously. The center is lovely, the Red Square lit up as it is— but neither of them were prepared for the snow. It’s fucking excessive, Draco thinks.

“To be fair, I came in the summer,” Harry says.

“You don’t even speak Russian!”

“Zdravstvuy,” Harry says with a goofy grin.

“I wanted to be somewhere where I knew nothing. Not the people, not the language, not the bloody tube system,” Harry quietly admits later in the comfort of their bed. “I was so full of you— my eyes, my lungs, my foolish heart, every part of me. I wanted to be full enough of something new that I wouldn’t miss you.”

“I love you too,” Draco says.

They get married on a distant April afternoon. Draco tucks a stem of hyacinth into Harry’s lapel. Harry can barely curb his grin enough for them to kiss, but Draco doesn’t tease him. He just leans into Harry’s neck as they sway to a faraway melody and takes in the feeling of him.

Harry and Draco becoming colleagues at the Ministry, polite to each other but nothing more. Harry and Draco accidentally showing up to the season’s first Ministry ball in colour coordinated robe and bow-tie. Awkward jokes made by other colleagues about them being a cute couple. And will there soon be kids in the picture? Over and over and over.

“I need a drink,” says Harry.

“Me too,” says Draco.

Christmas Day: Molly receives her jumpers

Molly thought she’d keep the tears at bay this year, but one by one, Molly opened her presents on Christmas day and discovered a whole collection of hand-knit jumpers. She looked up and saw the unlikely family that came to be over the years in front of her and the tears came instantly.

“We love you, Molly,” said Arthur, gently reaching out to hold her hand.

Justice for Cho Chang

Alright, hear me out. 

Cho Chang has always been one of the most controversial characters of the Harry Potter series because of how she was portrayed to be so stereotypically East Asian - to the point where her full name is literally composed of two Chinese/Korean last names (we’ve all heard of that discourse before). 

What has always annoyed me the most, however, is that Cho Chang in the books has 100% more potential for charisma and personality than what the movies constrict her character to have.

First of all, Cho is a huge jock. Need I remind you that she was the only girl in the Ravenclaw Quidditch team up until her 5th year and has been an avid fan of the Tutshill Tornados since childhood? You can bet my boy Cedric developed a crush on her from getting his ass kicked on the Quidditch field.

Not only is Cho a jock, but she is also known to be one of the most popular girls at school which, to me, adds to the interpretation that she was more extroverted than introverted prior to Cedric’s death. In the books, she is often seen hanging out with groups of people and being almost intimidating from how cool she is.

Moreover, and probably most importantly, Cho was able to cast the Patronus Charm which required a huge amount of control over her emotions. Let’s not forget that during the time that she did, my girl was dealing with:

1) Trauma from her boyfriend being murdered by the freakin’ Dark Lord.

2) Losing her friends and seeing her grades going downhill as a consequence of said trauma and depression.

3) Being part of a secret organization preparing her to go to freakin’ war.

Therefore, the fact that she was able to cast a whole ass Patronus Charm despite being obviously very tormented by her feelings of grief, anxiety and sadness is, to me, super badass and remarkable. 

So let us not carry the poor portrayal of Cho Chang from the movies, but rather celebrate the characterization that she deserves. 

When you think about it, Cho and Ginny are very similar in how they are generally disliked from their portrayal in the movies. They really went from being badass Quidditch players in the books to silent love interests on screen. 

Can we get as many voices calling out the unfair representation of Cho in the movies as we’ve gotten for Ginny?
