finished up first frame for the critical frames fan project! super fun to draw allura for the first time, even if my frame turned out a little more cutesy than the ones around it

“Amaryllis grew up in a family that prized worship over sincerity: surnames, family outings, bedside stories told before the smooth, quick tuck of a blanket - all obsolete. Amaryllis was not born a child; Amaryllis was born a symbol.”

Hello! I recently discovered your art through the "dnd oc" tag, and I was so impressed, I sent it to my art friend and we've been geeking out about how amazing your work is. We'd love to know more about your process: what tools you use, mainly, to get your clean lines and curves. Hope this doesn't sound creepy 😅 Keep it up!
Hello! Thank you so much for sending in such a kind question. It means a lot!
I’ll admit, my process is a little underwhelming. In terms of tools, I do all my work using ibisPaint X, more specifically using the program’s default Felt Tip Pen (Hard). I try not to get too crazy with brushes or programs because I personally find them overwhelming, which is why I tend to stick to a lot of default settings. I used Procreate for a bit, but found that it didn’t have a lot of the tools that I was familiar with which made the adjustment period hard.
Which, speaking of: 99% of my art is done using ibisPaint’s circle, line and ruler tools. The program’s ruler tool allows you to adjust it to specific angles (which is one of the features procreate lacked, as far as I could tell), which is what gives my art a lot of its geometric look. I’ll often try and use as few angles as possible per piece, which often end up being 0, 90, 135, 45, and other various unit circle increments for ease. I’ll start by blocking out shapes using the lines made from these rulers, then use the circle tool to round them out where necessary (I do this the old fashioned way, like a technology-phobic grandpa: by making a new layer for just the circles and lassoing them around until they look right).
In short: my process is super straight forward. Not a ton of sketching, just a lot of futzing until shapes look right or until angles flow the way I want them to. Efficient? No. Functional? For me, at least.
I hope that helps at least a little bit! Thank you again for such a kind ask.
