Some numbers from Garmin
Some numbers from Garmin
Today’s run was brutal. It was 1-minute walks and 7-minutes runs, three times in a row. Last run was 3+7 and I did not make that, but today I pushed myself. It shows in Garmin when I look at my different pulse zones. A total of 45% was in zone 5. I was also told that I was over training today and needs 70 hours of restitution before my next activity. When I look at my training effect, I did not…

First full week with a ”coach”
First full week with a ”coach”
Last time I wrote that I had change coach on Garmin and would train for a 10k. I have change that once more. She wanted me to run 3.5k after the first week, even thou I said that I had no prior running. That would not be possible. So now I am training for a 5k with the same coach. This week I have run 3 times, following the Garmin coach planned runs. One 2+5 three times (2-minute walk/5-minute…

Garmin training coach
I have been using Garmin devices for a long time, might be close to 10 years. Until now I have only used it as a tracking device and not much else. So, I was amazed that it offers a training coach and even one that seems to be dynamic. This I need to test. You setup some parameters for the program. Distance, goal, time, days to train, past running experience and at the end which of the three…

Four months and 10 beers
Four months and 10 beers
It is a wager I have against a friend of mine who also have been treating himself very well and needs to lose weight. We went on the scale Monday before handball training and whoever loses the most weight, in percentage of the start weight, until first training in the new year wins. The price is 10 beers at “Røde port bistro”. The 10 beers are in shape of a gift card, so you choose when you want…

Forward movement
When I start my training from scratch, I always do intervals of walking and running. Therefor I call my runs for forward movement. As it is not all done in running, so I am not running and I am not just going for a walk. That means that today I did 3k of forward movement, split up by 1-minute walk, 4-minute run, 1-minute walk, 6-minute run, 1-minute walk and 4-minute run. That was what my…

New plans in 5 weeks
New plans in 5 weeks
I must be honest; I only ran the one-time last week. To many lousy excuses, I really do not know why I cannot pull myself together and just do it. Yesterday, I friend of mine wrote that they planned to walk around the Ireland of Bornholm. That is a trek of a 120k and we would do it in 5 days. Not impossible, Bornholm is a rather rocky, hilly part of Denmark, so a little bit challenging. Off…

Best of shape/worst of shape
Best of shape/worst of shape
I am getting a reputation for being in the best of shape and in the worst of shape. In September I ran a half Marathon, could say that I was in pretty good shape and I was losing weight. Was close to get under the magic 100 kg. Now, almost a year later I start from scratch. Was on my 6th run, where I was walking and running. 1 minute walk, 4-minute run, 1 minute run, 6-minute run, 1 minute walk…

An ordinary run
I feared that our run today would be hard, that my legs would fell the impact of the half marathon that we ran Sunday. Last week when we ran after that Sunday half Marathon my legs was heavy and I feared that they would be like that again. I was wrong, I did not fell the run from the weekend, my legs felt fresh and I had a lot of energy for the planned hour run in an easy pace. We were not…

Race report – Half Marathon Kragerup Gods
Race report – Half Marathon Kragerup Gods
The third half Marathon this year and my 15. in all. It was our 3. this year, with the same race director, but in three different locations. This time it was a spectacular setting. The race started at an impressive estate and the whole run was around the land of the estate. Today we had good running weather. Partly clouded, 16 degrees and a little wind. Not like the first time where we ran in…

Race report - Sunday half Marathon
Race report – Sunday half Marathon
About a half hour drive from where I live there is this guy who host races and he host quite a lot of them. He actually hosts so many that you can pay an annual fee, to participate in all of them or one to just get a discount. I have not joined the club; he only has 3 or 4 different routes that we would be running. Instead, I paid full fee to run his race today. This is the second time we are…

Slow running week
We are taking a small break from our hectic running program these next two weeks. The reason is simple, we were supposed to have the weekend of, so we could go to a summer house with our Handball friends and play some games. And drink some beer and have some fun. That got cancelled because we were not enough to participate. Instead, Kasper and I entered another half Marathon, so we are…

Race report – “Lejre etapen, 1. leg”
Race report – “Lejre etapen, 1. leg”
Today we were running the 1. leg of a new running trend in Denmark. New is not quite true, it has been a thing on the Danish Ireland of Bornholm. The concept is simple, 5 individual races, which adds up to 42.2 km in total. The concept has popped up in Copenhagen a few years back and now the running club Hvalsø runners have picked it up. Five runs, five different places in the area. Today…

Fast run of the week
Fast run of the week
In our program we usually have one fast run with intervals every week. Today it was 3 times of 5-minute fast intervals with 90 seconds recovery in between. Our fast pace should be between 5:20-5:50, but I had removed the low end, so my watch would just tell me if we ran slower than 5:50. We were not even close. First 5-minute – 5:24 min/km Second 5-minute – 5:23 min/km Third 5-minute –…

New experience
Today, was really a different experience. The running program that we are using had us running twice in a day. Luckily today was a bank holiday, so we did not need to run before work. We had planned to run at 10 am and again at 5 pm. Both of the runs were only 35-minutes. The first one was 35-minute easy run, not really an issue, we kept the pace down. 6:49 min/km. Easy pace should be 6:50-7:20…

Three different runs
This week has resulted in three very different runs. Both in distance and pace, but also in how Kasper and I felt on the runs. Tuesday, we had an easy 35-minute run in total. It consisted of 10-minute easy run to begin with, which for us is in the interval 6:50-7:20 minutes pr. km. Then we did 15-minute tempo which is a minute faster than our easy run, 5:50-6:20 min/km and ended with another…

I deserve it
I was going to give myself a new running watch when I had saved enough money on not smoking to buy it. I could not wait, so while I was still missing a 2-3 weeks of savings, I bought my watch. It is a cool watch, it can do so many things, now I just need to learn how to use it. I have already learned a lot about it, I have used it for 2 works. But still, the other day at handball I was asked to…

100 days
I have earned my badge. I have been smoke-free for 100 days. It is getting easier, but I can still feel the craving when we get some good food, wine or beer. (or all three) I admit I still use gum, but if I do not use the gum, I get cravings for sweets or just food. So, the gum helps me both with the cigarette craving, but also my weight-loss. My weight-loss have stagnated, I had one weighing…
