In Super Mario Odyssey, Bowser's Kingdom contains statues called Jizo, named after the Japanese name of a bodhisattva commonly revered in East Asian Buddhism. In-game, the Jizo statues depict a humanoid character with a face similar to that of a Toad; when Mario captures them, they change to resemble Statue Mario instead.

The Art of Super Mario Odyssey book contains five concept art sketches for unused Jizo statue designs based on enemies, being Bowser, Bowser Jr., Boom Boom, Goomba and Kamek.

There have been two occasions on which Bowser's airship has been shown to possess a large mechanical hand attached to a series of articulated pipes: Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga (top) and New Super Mario Bros. U/Luigi U/Deluxe (bottom).

Curiously, in both of these instances, the ship is left-handed. Whether this is a coincidence, or if the later example is a reference to the former, or if both of them are left-handed on purpose for some specific other reason, is unknown.

Throwing this in as well but yes at one point Aster learns Distra isn't really Mario but this only makes him angrier at the imposter that he wasn't the one who defeated the plumber for good.

Bowser design note: while Aster can't do anything about the soft glow of the green stars on him, he can control if his spikes and horns are lit up. His hair gets more flowy and sparkly with star power flowing through him, the same circumstances apply to the glow under his scales and throat/belly.
