When Link and a few of the younger heroes returned to the ranch from their outing, Malon didn’t miss how her wife’s face was practically glowing with happiness. That had been a rare sight, as their journey grew more perilous every time they were pulled away, and Malon savored her Link’s smile every time she got to see it. She grabbed Link’s arm and pulled him close, touching that face for herself.

“I just got back, Malon, what is it?” Link laughed, putting her hand over Malon’s.

“You look happy,” Malon said. “Did something exciting happen while you were out?”

Link frowned a little. “Um. I don’t think so…?”

“Is it because that one person called you ma’am?” Sky suggested.

“Oh! I suppose it is,” Link agreed.

“Aw, did that surprise you?” Malon asked.

Link blushed. “Well, yes, but in a good way. I’m used to answering to sir so I didn’t acknowledge them at first, but they were trying to talk to me. They thought they were mistaken to use that word when they saw my face, but… it felt nice to hear it, and know it was for me.”

“Oh, that’s wonderful!” Malon exclaimed, and reached to brush her fingers through Link’s hair. It was getting longer again, not enough to braid like before but she could at least pull it back properly. “Maybe it’s because a certain smart group convinced you to grow this out again.”

“Do you think so?” Link wondered. “I only cut it because I thought it would be more practical.”

“Yes, well, it’s not exactly the fashion for men to wear their hair long. Or for women to cut it short. And yes, there are exceptions,” Malon added, knowing that Link was about to protest, “But it was easier for that person to see your longer hair and assume that you were a woman without you having to prove it.”

“But that’s so stupid,” Link whined. “I still don’t understand why there have to be so many complicated rules.”

“Truthfully, I don’t either. But you’re happy, and that’s all I care about,” Malon said, and that convinced her wife to smile again.

Legend + Coming Out (200 words) for @queering-the-chain 2025.

In theory, coming out was easy. In practice, it was anything but. So Legend figured it'd be best to start small, with the sailor. The only problem was finding a good time to do so. Being on the road all the time meant it was hard to have one-on-one conversations with people, so when the opportunity finally presented itself, he took it despite how shaky his hands were. They were supposed to be doing… something, but Legend was so nervous he'd forgotten what it was. Wind must have sensed that something was wrong, because he turned to look at Legend questioningly. "Are you okay? You seem off today." "Yeah! Yeah, I'm fine, I just… There's something I want you to know." He took a deep breath and steeled himself. "I'm trans." "Oh, does that mean you're a girl or a guy?" "How I feel changes, but usually I'm just me." Saying it felt like a weight off his shoulders. "Right now I feel like a guy, but I was raised as a girl." Wind nodded. "Are you going to tell the others?" "That's the plan. It's just hard." Wind took his hand and squeezed it. "It'll be okay. I promise."

Wild + First Kiss (100 words) for @queering-the-chain 2025.

Wild didn't remember if he'd ever kissed someone before he died. He didn't really think about it. Except when he did, and then it really bothered him.

Like now.

Wild awkwardly sat between Twilight and Sky, who were both listening to the sailor's giddy retelling of when Tetra had given him a peck on the lips. Even Wind, who was the youngest, had already had a first kiss.

He knew that dating (or not dating) didn't make him less of a person, but it was hard not to feel jealous over normal life things that he was missing out on.

Linked Universe Disability Pride!

Hello and welcome to the Linked Disability creation event! There will be a list of prompts dedicated to diversifying the cast of Linked Universe. The event will run through the month of July.

Them's the rules:

There will be 15 main prompts along with some alternate prompts. They are not limited to any specific days in July.

You can combine as many prompts as you want.

There is no deadline.

There is no minimum requirement of creation.

There is no completionist prize.

Writing and art of any media are encouraged.

You do not have to create something new for this event. If you have already created something that fits a prompt, you may share it.

This blog will highlight participants who create their own post and @ the blog. We reserve the right to not reblog entries that we have determined to be excessively insensitive or ableist. Do not let this discourage you from doing your research and branching out! If you're concerned your idea might cross a line, please reach out! We're happy to help guide you in the right direction.
