Questline is a core system with a fresh and interesting take on fantasy roleplay. Suited for nearly any setting, it has rules and mechanics that cater to many styles of play and myriad possible worlds. We have designed this system to be intuitive and detailed, so that whatever you may think of can be explored and expressed through gameplay. Classes are dynamic and are more like guidelines than actual roles, nothing is holding you back from investing in magic or melee, stealth or assault, in any combination and to any level, regardless of where you start.

Questline’s crafting and enchanting systems give your character the power to create anything imaginable. These systems harmonize structure with open-endedness, giving GMs a great tool to create magic artifacts that are both balanced and unique, and players a way to create powerful tools to aid them in their adventures.
When enchanting an item, players use Questline’s magic system to imbue the item with magical effects. The enchanter chooses a method in which the effects are triggered, be it wearing the item, striking an enemy with the item, or simply touching the item. This, combined with Questline’s extensive and fluid magic system opens the door to create any magical item you’ve seen in fiction or even your own imagination. From flying carpets, to flaming swords, to teleporting ale mugs that let you see the future, all are possible with a little bit of magic.

Stoic defenders of the forest, centaurs are a fusion of a man’s upper torso and the body of an equine. They favor bows carefully crafted from the trees of their home but are more than capable of charging down any threats and stomping them into the ground. They speak a dialect of Faerie and know nothing of the common tongue or any others, such is their isolated life. Take care which woods you wander through, or you might trespass into the territory of centaurs.

“Now then let’s make sure this isn’t tra-“
“Out of my way you insufferable blowhard, the treasure is mine!”
The Interruption action allows a character to attempt to act on another character’s turn. To counter, the interrupted character can negate the interruption by spending an amount of Stamina or Concentration equal to the Stamina or Concentration spent by the one causing the interruption.

What would an adventurer be without their trusty equipment? Dead or worse, that’s what. Whether you’re charting wild unknown lands or spelunking for ancient treasure, it is imperative to be well equipped for the job. Torches and flint for light, rope, hammer, and pitons for climbing, medical supplies, and many more such items are useful to one who embarks on expeditions fraught with peril. Risk is a necessary component of adventuring but one should never neglect to prepare. Pack well and you just may survive.

From the unknown reaches of existence comes a demonic little creature with a propensity for mischief and chaos, the Imp! Wielding spiked instruments of terror and torment, the Imp also utilizes magic that causes degradation and decay, able to damage the health of creatures and the integrity of objects and armor.
Clearly these beings delight in the harm they cause, and seeing even one should give you pause to reconsider if your path is the wisest one.

“You are a fierce warrior from the harsh and unforgiving outskirts of society. More ‘civilized folk’ prance about their enemy waiting for the perfect time to strike, but not you. To you, any time is the perfect time to strike, as long as you strike hard enough.”
Meet the Barbarian, a ferocious warrior who moves fast and strikes hard. Unencumbered by heavy armor, barbarians are able to make full use of their Stamina and Concentration. Barbarians start with levels in the Charge, Dodge, Sunder, and Power Attack techniques. This allows them to charge into battle, avoid devastating blows, destroy their opponent’s armor, and deal out massive damage. Smarts don’t do you any good when your brain is splattered on the floor.

“Under the cover of darkness, you stalk your prey and strike from the shadows. Many unsuspecting people have met their end at the tip of your blade. Then again, it’s all in a day's work...isn’t it?”
Meet the Assassin. A highly trained specialist with only one specialty…slaughter. Assassins start with levels in the “Sneak Attack” and “Disengage” techniques. Meaning they can strike hard from the shadows and slip away effortlessly. With their longbow and rope-dagger they can strike from a comfortable distance if they so choose, but carry a dagger for when a more hands on approach is required. You never know when an assassin is lurking on the edge of a shadow, ready to pounce.

“You are a student of natural philosophy. You study the ways in which magic influences the composition and form of the natural world. Who knows what secrets you will unlock.”
Meet The Alchemist, a natural philosopher who uses their magic to manipulate the properties of both space and matter. Alchemists start with levels in Transmutation and Manipulation, allowing them to transmute solid materials into pure vapor, polymorph their allies into hulking beasts, or even open portals in the fabric of reality. Their knowledge of the true nature of the natural world is matched by no one.

Slimes may seem like a trivial threat at first, but their presence in the depths of a dank filth ridden cellar or the canals of a splintering network of caves should not be taken lightly.
Slimes are a unique enemy, in that they have very little potential damage output but can quickly destroy your party’s equipment. Each time a slime successfully hits another being with an art tack, that being’s Armor Rating is reduced by 1 (making them more vulnerable to damage from other attacks in the future). Additionally, each time a being hits a slime with an attack, the weapon they used to make that attack gains 1 degradation point (imposing a penalty on all attack and damage rolls made with that weapon until it’s repaired).

Questline’s “Cover” system is fast, simple, and straightforward. Each square yard of cover is assigned an Armor Rating at the GM’s discretion. This Armor Rating is added to your character’s Armor Rating when calculating damage. If an attack or effect would reduce your character’s Armor Rating, the cover’s Armor Rating is reduced instead. If the cover’s Armor Rating is reduced to 0, that piece of cover is destroyed.
A chart is provided in the manual that will help GM’s determine the Armor Rating of cover depending on what material is being used as cover, as well as the thickness of said material.

“You are a unique kind of warrior, employing destructive magical forces in the field of battle, rather than steel. Your spells often strike down your enemies before they can even draw their sword.”
Meet the Battlemage, a magic user who studies magic strictly for its combat applications. Battlemages start with levels in the Evocation and Abjuration schools of magic, enabling them to sling powerful magic bolts that damage their foes, or create shimmering magic shields and barriers that protect their allies. There is no warrior as truly versatile or cunning.

Meet the Archer, just 1 of the 15 different classes you’re able to choose from in Questline. Archers start with levels in the “Ranged Weapon” skill, and the “Aim”, “Sneak Attack” and “Sunder” techniques. They not only strike from a distance, but carry a wide array of arrow types to overcome a multitude of combat obstacles. With heavy armor piercing “Bodkin Arrows” to destroy the armor of their enemies, thin pointed “Needle Arrows” to ignore armor altogether, and highly combustible “Flaming Arrows” to deal a bit of extra damage, archers have the answer to almost any combat situation.

The Questline manual has no shortage of weapons you can use to slash, pummel, and pierce your foes. Each weapon has a unique set of “techniques” that the wielder is able to perform in combat. The effectiveness of these techniques is determined by your character’s technique level.
These distinctions between weapons not only make each weapon feel wholly unique, but will naturally encourage characters to have a favored weapon, based on the techniques they’ve leveled up the most.
For instance: a character with a high “Sweep” level may prefer a Saber, (allowing them to attack multiple enemies with a single attack) while a character with a high “Parry” level may prefer a Rapier or Main Gauche (allowing them to deflect the blows of their Enemies)
