Wolf Alice and Jungle | London Calling @ Paradiso | Friday 9 May

The London Calling Festival at the legendary Paradiso was the perfect way to kick off the quint move to Amsterdam. Wolf Alice is a long-time favourite of the quint team and at Bad House Party so it was great to see such an awesome band live. Their presence on stage was electric, and they absolutely rocked it while remaining genuinely humble - regularly interacting with the crowd and thanking everyone generously after they left us all reeling from their awesome rendition of Fluffy (a huge fan favourite judging by the wild thrashing and cheers). Definitely a band to watch live. They managed to enhance very song through true technical skill and passionate energy on stage. The venue was of course perfect for the performance - although we’ve heard great things about Paradiso it is entirely different to experience the perfect acoustics in person. After Wolf Alice we stuck around in the main room to check out Jungle, who honestly blew our minds, and looking around at the crowd, it felt like everyone else was thinking the same thing. From the shadows, strange animal sounds descended upon us. Birds and bugs chirping and buzzing soon gave way to the inimitable sound they are so well known and loved for. We rode the ebbs and swells from song to incredible song in a lovely daze as they took us on a true journey throughout their set.. Although they seemed pretty serene and wrapped up in the technical aspect of their performance, their energy is still contagious and we were left a bit winded and truly amazed as we walked back out into reality. Hugely impressive and a truly awesome band to watch. We are already counting down the days to the next London Calling and looking forward to seeing Son Lux at Paradiso on Saturday 25 May. Poeticians at Sikka Art Fair 2013
