hi friends,
been more than a year i think. i'm thinking of coming back for accountability and share my journey to boards and the time i had during internship (:
it's been such a rollercoaster since last year, since i started my internship. last week has been... just, wow. i had my baccalaureate mass, graduated, had a big family reunion and my relationship with my heart has to end for my family.
so now, i plan to redirect my heartbreak to working on myself, as he said when i asked what am i to do with all the love that's in my heart for him β and that's what we'll (i'll) be doing, until we meet again.
using this platform for accountability during the pandemic and during my academic years has helped me discipline myself a lot, so hopefully, it'll help me again. π€

no one informed me having a partner who's in the same field as u who can handle all ur rambles about the cases you handled for the shift or generally about anything would be this fun
just sent multiple voice messages to mine's and i really appreciate how he's really taking in all my rambles even when we're not together personally + he adjusted his body clock so he could talk to me before i go to my shift (night shift, 10-6am for the week) and wake up very early to either fetch me or text me good morning π₯Ήπ₯Ή

β life lately
let go of my long hair and dyed my hair again bc its high time for a change (kidding) and i have a pictorial for a department event soon, so, yk
my camera roll's filled with ventilators from high flow machines to baby vents to hamiltons bc it became a habit for me not to only write the changes in vent settings anymore but also take a photo of the current settings the time i did rounds (8am rounds, 12nn rounds)
there's so much i've learned these 5 months in my first clinical rotation and i can't wait to share more about it soon π€

UPDATE:
It went very well !!!
Instead of memorizing, I reported as if I'm just talking to my co-interns and emphasized on important parts and shared experiences for a more relatable lecture instead of boring them with just theoreticals
My CI even asked to send my presentation to her !!
Have a report on patient and cardiopulmonary assessment in... about 3 hours and I'm still 2hrs away from the hospital and I'm not yet done w my presentation π₯²π₯²
Started on this 2 weeks ago and gave it time whenever I could since commute is tiring and most days there's lots of patients, lots to do
Please pray I get this done before 7AM π€§

I was funny yesterday
Ever since i got into high school i didn't really care much about what i hear (negative things etc etc) and i don't cry much unless alone or one of our dogs passed - didn't even cry when my dad got into a car accident on 2019 or when i got humiliated by my 5th grade math teacher by havine me stand the whole class because i couldn't get the answer right and the school journal club went to take a pic of our class and she allowed to have my picture taken in that state
but yesterday after our lecture at the hospital, we talked about merits and demerits and out of nowhere our preceptor suddenly said "rene you have no initiative" and for some reason it became a trigger ??? i overthinked if i really don't have any initiative but since this is my first rotation ever i played it safe the first few days but actually i was already confident doing basic treatments on my own day 2 onwards
then, idk, i feel its bc of the exhaustion as well from having a max of 4hrs of sleep on a daily when i have hospital duty: waking up 2/230 am, traveling from 430-530 to get to the hospital 30mins earlier than our call time then logging off at 230pm, getting home at nearly 6pm
and lately ive been battling w myself as an introvert and socially... awkward ?? Idk person, ive been doing my best to talk to patients and their guardians/caretakers whenever i do treatments to ask how they are, entertain questions, go to the nurse's station to ask for an update on the patient's things etc etc and i was assigned to rehab the last 3 days, it meant a longer time to talk to each px
actually handled 2 px on my own, which im pretty proud of but ofc i wasnt able to really make the sessions fun as i wanted to but im trying hard to crack up a conversation or a joke here and there. the staff at rehab made it easier tho, everyone's so very nice and patient with teaching me stuff and i actually don't want to leave there bc it's become my safe space already
anw to continue after overthinking what my preceptor had as an example w a serious tone, i broke down once i stepped outside our unit HAHAHAHAHHAHA grateful for my fellow co-interns for protecting me and comforting me. another one of my safe spaces as of now.
i need to enroll myself to emotional management programs

extremely worried about being assigned to the ER today as my first duty.
yesterday was orientation and lectures and tour of the hospital and today officially marks my first day as a respiratory therapy intern
so actually i feel i shouldn't worry about today especially since there's a 1:1 staff-intern ratio and that we can either just observe or take initiative and i think i might be in between of the two for today?? [ observe first half of the shift + ask questions then practice on second half ]
sooo, yeah. this week, i'm on AM duty (6am to 2pm) and the good thing about this schedule is how i can use the hospital shuttle going back to my city and back home BUT as it's 358AM, i feel i am running late BUT the train station starts operating 430/5AM and i cant really use uber either the car or motorcycle ones because: (a) uber-kind of cars' extremely expensive for a student, (b) motorcycles are scary and i only trust it when im not going too far, (c) the motorcycle version's still a bit pricey.
anyways, i should go !!
i should just think how if the past and present senior interns were able to pull off their day 1s, i could also pull it off, no?
wish me luck today and good luck to everyone as well !!

Day 1 tomorrow of my first internship rotation !!!
actually i only have 2hrs 30mins to sleep, lol
Please pray I get at least enough energy to get by on a daily, I packed vitamin c with zinc and bought myself iron+folic w other vit b supplements to keep my anemia in check (i am a folic deficient anemic but my latest blood work showed normal hct/hgb w a slightly elevated rbc (this one's very consistent), so this is a must) + also packed anti-emetic to prevent any vertigo episodes from worsening
i really want to update u guys on my internship as often as possible because this is probably the most exciting part of the journey !!!
*will add tags later during lunch time*

day 47/366
slept at 4 in the morning because i suddenly remembered for clinical research we have a much earlier final defense and since my rotation got moved to the 27th, i decided to plan our deadlines since personally, i feel i won't be able to face some duties as the group's leader once our internship starts bc im assigned to a hospital 3-4 hours away from home and i wont rent a dorm or what bc its super expensive in that area
what i did from 12MN to 4AM
planned deadlines
made a timetable
made a respondent list for possible respondents β figured we could start on this while waiting for ethics approval bc it takes 2 weeks to process, at least we could just send the questionnaire as soon as it gets approved rather than just start on looking for respondents after
made a checklist in my planner for things we need to do
studied until slide 20/70 of comprehensive pt assessment presentation

02.07.24 β day 38/366
my days have been eventful since i last updated :)
attended general orientation for our department
got my internship logbook
got persuaded into joining a uni-wide quiz bee (therefore ill be absent on my 2nd day at my rotation)
got my schedule for pre internship training/lectures β certifications for the hospitals im rotating isn't necessary compared to the first hospitals the first batch went to so i don't think i'll be having that
got a commission work :)
completed my laboratories, imaging and medical exam β got my medical certificate from the university physician as fit to work (also blood levels are great !!! as an anemic that's something to be proud of)
our study got revised again so from focusing on healthcare-associated pneumonia we shifted to ventilator-associated pneumonia which is great with how much literature's already been published about it
day 3 of my pre internship today anddd im just reading through the presentations, will be making my notes tomorrow or the weekend
got some documents notarized
submitted the clinical internship form for the hospital i'm assigned to
attended lectures ofc
studied on oxygen therapy protocols (but unfortunately wasn't the topic for the lec day it was supposed to be)
today i was able to complete my commission work, revisions of our intro and literature andd research design :)

day 43/366
starting my internship very sleep deprived today. supposedly. but with God's grace, the endorsement got pushed to the 27th and i can focus on our current situation: my sister got colitis
in the photo was me taking a nap while my sister - the one hospitalized, sat on the chair because its been nearly 12hrs she's laying down in the er bed and wanted to sit down + she really wanted me to get some rest because we got home nearly 4am yesterday from the er as well also because of her (as per my suggestion for peace of mind) and i had to go to uni by lunch, so i only had 4 hours of sleep and for today was also very sleep deprived, i think i only got 2 hours maximum of sleep while we were waiting in the er
i felt guilty for not being to hold out till past 9am so our mom could chill at home, but i just couldnt also leave my sister to eat and couldnt eat by her bed bc she's on npo (for more than a day in total but at the time was 17 hrs fast already) ++++ i had a gut feeling somethinf might happen while im away, which happened after the switch
and we concluded to never go to that hospital's er again unless it's for emergencies such as a deeply lacerated limb, for example, because we met a good doctor for those type of cases, haha
wont expound but we have those times

day 28/366
timelapsed our post-defense note-taking for revisions and whatnots and the app takes a screenshot of one of the moments and funnily the part where we all took a nap was captured
i spent my sunday sleeping most of the day bc i was still feeling under the weather and had some quality time with hoshino β his hair is already overgrown but all my energy could do was to trim his nails before i had to lie down from feeling nauseous (peep the vitamin c juice from an effervescent tablet)
i told our research leader to take a breather for the day since she wasn't able to sleep at all the day before (was on night duty, came home 1140PM and studied the presentation until she had to go to uni) and because we have until the 9th to finish the revisions anyways
this week's goals !!
review and start revisions for clinical research
week 1 of clinical research edits
do lab tests, requirement for internship
have a letter notarized
revise clinical research questionnaire
submit letter of endorsement to uni clinic
general orientation on the 2nd
write stuff down in pocket notebook to be brought along during duty
submit clinical internship form to hospital placement
