what's the definition of mutt? we didn't know it had to do with mixed races (english isn't our first language so we haven't heard of it being used like that)

we had seen this flag which uses the term, but with another definition (Mutt pride is a term for trans men/boys and transmascs who feels outcasted from general society, looked down upon, or pitied because of their transness, as would a stray mutt. Though based on trans struggles, this term is meant to be used in a positive way, celebrating perseverance and strength through dark times.) and was wondering if we shouldn't use it given how we're (mostly) just latino

Mutt is a slur that is used against mixed race people (mostly against people mixed with white and a non-white race), it implied we were dirty, unnatural, deformed, disgusting.

For people who aren't mixed race, it's incredibly offensive to use the term outside of that context because the term was literally used more against us than dogs for a long time.

If you are mixed race, we would be happy to make a userbox about being a mutt (since my in-sys partner identifies with it, and has used that flag in the past, it wouldn't be a problem) but if you aren't we would not be comfortable doing so.
