Do you have any tips on how to draw plus size characters?

Okay, so I would say I'm not the best expert as I'm still learning myself! Here's some guides I use regularly though:

Do you have any tips to draw afro/curly hair and braids?? I hope you can help me bc I'm having so much trouble drawing it in the moment waaa😭😭

How to draw Afros & Braids 101

Sure! For Afros, first decide on what hair texture you want (there's charts of these online, most Afros range from 3B to 4C).

3B ~ 4A = Looser curly afros (texture: spirals)

4B ~ 4C = Dense afros (texture similar to clouds, tight coils)

Advanced tip: In all Afros, there are some curls that are really loose and wavy in the hair. Not every curl is the same! Some are fuzzy, spiral-y, and coily.

Second, go on Pinterest and gather as many references as you can of the afro you're looking for! I like to use PureRef to gather all my references in one place, it's great and free (though if you can, support the creators!)

Third, break down the afro into sections (ex: Bangs, middle part, back part), This is essential for creating depth and following the direction of the hair. Use shapes first, and then work your way up to adding smaller details like curls.

BIG TIP: If you're using curl or braid brushes, use them as guidelines & trace ontop. Because while they are great for doing the back & sides of the hair, it's never good to put them down randomly, cause you're not following the direction of the hair. Also most of these brushes don't fit for those who have a cartoonic artstyle, so that's important to note too.

For braids, follow the same steps as above. Additionally, I want to add that you break down the braids by parts first, then add the braid on top. In this photo below, you can see that the hair is sectioned by squared and then the hair is braided ontop of that square. Depending on what type of braids you're doing, depends on how big the squares are.

Braids have a heart design shape to them, great tutorial here

Smaller braids = Smaller squares/parts and vice versa

Also there's different types of braid hairstyles, my personal favorite is french curls (it's super cute)

Here are some others: goddess braids, jumbo braids, lemonade braids, twists, raindrop braids, bubble braids, jade braids, etc.
