Aftermath- Levi Ackerman

(He’s pushing fourty, he would have wrinkles.)

The flowers I used are Yarrow, Willow, Zinnia, Gladiolus, Gardenia, Thyme, Clovers. Sometimes I like to assign my own meanings to the plants, other times I just use the meanings that are already assigned to them (according to random websites I find). This time I did the latter.

Yarrow (The plant in the upper left corner): Everlasting Love -While all, literally all, his friends have died, his love for them doesn’t, he’s not like Eren and turns to revenge, he follows in what they truly would have wanted, not millions of people to be crushed. He’s seen with the refugees trying to rebuild with people the world they would have wanted.

Zinnia (The plant to the right of Levi, by his cane): Thoughts of absent friends, lasting affection- This one’s self explanatory.

Gladiolus (The plant with the yellow flowers, before Levi’s left knee): Strength, Integrity, Victory- So is this one, but also want to note how this isn’t necessarily a reference to his physical strength, literally fighting with a shot up knee, but his mental too. After everything he’s still sweet- and I’m not joking like I do with Sukuna sometimes- he’s always been like this and continues to, even though Gabi killed Sasha, and he clearly grieves cause of that. He sees how Gabi changes and recognize she’s like 12, and is still willing to fight Eren (unlike some people *>Annie*) He’s always been honest and blunt and his values have never changed.

Gardenia (The plant in the bottom right corner with the white flowers): You’re lovely, secret love. - I chose this one and made it the biggest because Levi’s own feelings are often kept inside. Not in the sense that he’s so stoic and won’t tell anyone he loves them, though I definitely think from how he grew up in the undercity, softness and gentleness isn’t really a common thing, and that definitely reflects how he always speaks bluntly and uses harsh langue even though he’s not really that angry- But anyway, in the sense that he will never be the type to speak what he needs, his feeling are his own problem. Like when Hange and Erwin the peoples he’s closest with charge to their deaths he doesn’t beg them to stop even though he clearly doesn’t want them to die. He keeps how much he actually really enjoys and thrives on closeness secret, the deepest of his feeling to himself to deal with the aftermath himself.

Thyme (The plant on the left side, before Levi’s right knee with the purple/pink flowers): Courage, strength- Self explanatory, similar to the Gladiolus.

Clovers (The plants behind the picture frames on the desk, with the small white flowers): Think of me, remembrance.- Self explanatory.

Willow (The plant coming down and around the mirror and some in the upper left corner behind some of the yarrow and along the wall): Sadness- Within all this strength and willingness to move on and continue. There’s still that pain he now has to live with. He doesn’t sleep well and that’s not gonna change. There is not a single person left to share this pain with, not even the 104th as it’s not the same because they didn’t get the same experience within the Scouts as people like Hange, Erwin, Miche, Moblit, and Nanaba did.

The Insect Hashira, Shinobu Kochō

The details and are meant to indicate her character as she does not at all wear her heart on her sleeve. The foxgloves (flower to the left) and bleeding heart (flower to right) are both poisonous plants, meant to show how she uses poison within her fighting and also. To the left is her sword and the foxgloves, to the right her emotions show a bit more within the bleeding hearts meant to indicate her pain from loosing her sister, the hate she still feels towards demons, the butterfly’s show this as well, the green one positioned for its lower wing meant to look like a tear, the red ones upper wing positioned by her mouth to make it look sort of like a frown. Her hand is also suppose to look like she is gripping her sword very tightly, but I probably could’ve drawn this better to make it more clear.

Disgusted by her own hunger

For Nezuko I kinda like to see her demon state as sort of a metaphor for her trauma, like she stuck in time and cannot move on from what happened. She is unable to live a regular life, she cannot go into the sun and enjoy its warmth (at least at the beginning of her demon state), she has to sleep all day just to keep her energy up, she can’t be around blood without hungering for it. She now cannot walk through life like a normal untraumatized version and within this art I like to imagine it as a sort of metaphor for her hungering for how she used to live, without the trauma of having her whole family killed before her and she almost dying too, the peaceful life that’d been stolen from her. The person bleeding and more vibrant is meant to represent that, and she’s envious of them but also disgusted by her jealously/hunger for what they have.

This used to be a little tree on TikTok amongst artist, idk if it ever reached here but since I live in America (unfortunately, RELEASE ME (ㅠ︿ㅠ), and I can’t access my account this is where I’m moving it to, I hope you like it! It is my first animation I’ve done so I know it looks quite choppy and there are a lot of mistakes but I’m learning and growing! Hope you like it!
