📚Richard Cameron Fic: The Theatre
Summary: Avery's friend, Neil, introduces her to his friends when he invites them for one of his rehearsals. Little did she know, a ballerina box will change her entire day.
A/N: I wrote this more than a year ago cause I’m a Cameron apologist and the lack on inclusivity made me write this; I figured I’d share it here. Also I don’t actually know how theaters work so this not the most accurate thing you’ll read. OC btw </3
⊱━━━━━━⊱♡⊰━━━━━━⊰
Not only was she a student at Henley Hall, Avery was also the prop master of the theatre club. Ever since she got dragged to help for one of the rehearsals by her friends, Avery fell in love with the behind-the-scenes process enough to stay and join the club as their prop master.
That is also how she met Neil, an actor with great potential. After his outstanding performance in A Midsummer's Night Dream, he has become an essential part of the cast of Henley Hall's plays. Avery and Neil became close when they found out how much love each of them had for their respective passions. So when Neil invited his friends over for a rehearsal, he seeked her out for introductions.
Avery was going through a list of needed materials when Neil found her.
"Avie! What are you up to?" He asked and, without waiting for an answer, continued, "My friends just arrived, wanna come and meet them?"
“Oh, today’s the day? Okay, yea sure, I will go meet them. Let's go now." Avery replied, putting down her list
"Great, because I have been telling them all about how you made my puck crown, and now they are pretty excited to meet you."
Now Avery was not prepared to meet new people, especially ones who already knew a thing or two about her, but since it's Neil's friends they were talking about, she figured she would not have to worry much.
That might have been a mistake…
As the duo walked over to the group of friends, Avery noticed how each of the six boys conveyed different energies. Excitement, mischief, anxiousness, confusion... Looking at them as a group, they could simply be described by one word: chaotic. Except for one of them.
Sure, he looked a bit out of place, but that's because he didn't belong to the theatre. But if one focused a little, he was the only one making an effort to appear calm and collected, and Avery appreciated that effort.
"Guys! This is Avery, our one and only prop master!" Neil said so as soon as he approached the group eagerly.
And before Avery could get a word out, a boy darted forward. “We finally meet, Avie. I am Charlie Dalton. You might not know me, but I sure heard some things about you." The boy who radiated confidence, replied immediately and stuck out his hand confidently.
"Don’t be so fast to assume now, I can say the same for you." Avery took his hand, attempting to match the boy’s energy despite the bold introduction.
Neil went on to list the rest of the boys. Some introduced themselves, while others said simple hellos and let Neil handle the rest.
"And over here we have our top student, Richard Cameron." Neil finally finished off with the composed boy, patting both of his shoulders.
"It is nice to finally meet you, Avery." said Richard, finally breaking off his tranquil demeanour with the hint of nervousness in his voice.
"You too..." the girl replied softly.
As Neil trialled off talking about his plan for the day regarding showing off the theatre to his friends, Avery tried to ignore this weird gut feeling inside her. An irrational feeling urging her, daring her to take a peek at this proclaimed top student. Subtly taking a deep breath, she dared a glance towards Richard, and to her surprise, he was already looking at her. Then the both of them, with their flushed cheeks, quickly looked away, pretending they could actually hear the boys chattering instead of the loud beating of their hearts.
It wasn't until Neil asked her a question that Avery broke out of her trance.
"Avie, do you mind showing us the prop room first? I would show them on my own, but I know you wouldn't trust me alone." He said it with a bright smile.
Avery knew that people could hardly resist the boy's smile, which was full of hope and charm, and she was one of those people as well. Next thing she knew, Avery was ushering the seven boys towards her well organised prop room, silently praying the boys would have enough decency not to mess too much with the carefully made items.
As soon as the group of teens reached their destination, Neil slipped into his role as a self-proclaimed tour guide way too excitedly. He was animatedly showing off his favourite props, sharing small stories behind special items and occasionally turning to Avery to ask for input from a ‘professional’, as he would call it. The boys were engrossed by their little tour and joking around whenever they got the chance. There was a nice vibe going on until a loud crash halted their activities.
Of course something had to break. Everyone turned towards the source of the sound to find out what had been broken. When Avery's eyes landed on the broken ballerina box by Knox's feet, she felt a gasp come out of her. It was an old box that took a good chunk of time to get back to presentable condition.
"I.. I’m sorry... I don't know how it happened..." Knox stammered off trying to explain himself, but to no avail; the girl too focused on the broken box sitting on the ground to listen to any words.
"Avery I'm so sorry." Neil stepped in "I should have kept an eye on them. I'm sorry I got too distracted.”
"It's fine, Neil, it's just... I just hope I can fix it..." Avery said, sighing in defeat. Her hand reaching up to smooth out her frown. A gesture not gone unnoticed by Cameron.
She was trying her best not to show too much disappointment on her face, that would be rude to her guests. Thankfully, Neil, ever the observer, quickly sensed that the girl just needed some alone time, signalled for the boys to leave quietly.
Finally, with a quiet room, Avery could focus on the problem at hand and figure out a way to salvage the box.
What she didn't figure out was a ginger boy standing by the door.
"Hey" he said.
Startled, Avery turned on her heels, only to find one of Neil's friends.
"Uhh..hey. Richard, right?" she replied.
"Yes. But, please, call me Cameron."
"Cameron it is then."
"So, about the box, I'm sorry about Knox."
"No no, just like I said, it’s fine. I just need to find a way to fix it. It is only a set prop anyways, so it is fine if it's a bit broken."
Gathering some courage with a deep breath, Cameron finally said what he had stayed behind for "I can help you fix it. I mean, if you don't mind. It's just that I'm quite handy at patching up stuff, if that's what you need."
"Oh no, you don't have to! I appreciate the offer, but you know, it wasn't your fault, and I don't wanna hold you back from your friends."
"No, please, I insist," he pressed on "I've been around the place before anyways, and I'm sure it will take them a while to notice me gone."
Cameron wasn't sure why he was this insistent, but he knew he wanted to get to know Avery better, and this was his only chance at alone time without his friends ruining the moment.
"Well, in that case," Avery relented, "I can't say no to less work."
That last statement earned a genuine smile from Cameron, and it warmed her heart knowing he was humoured by it, or maybe she just liked his smile. What Avery didn't know was that the boy’s smile was at the opportunity of spending time with her.
And that was how the duo sat side by side on the girl’s crafts table, working to fix the ballerina box. It had been quiet at first, with both of them full of nerves and not quite knowing what to say. However, they relaxed as they kept working. Avery leading the main work, and Cameron helping however was he could.
For the next hour or so, they kept working, too absorbed by each other to keep track of time. At one point, however, the box had been abandoned, and if someone focused a little, they could hear the distant jokes and laughs coming from the prop room. If someone bothered to look, they could see the accidental touches passing around were not so accidental in reality. But neither of them wanted to acknowledge that fact. Neither did they want to acknowledge how their faces hurt from smiling too much.
Avery and Cameron were so lost in their little bubble that they didn't notice their common friend opening the prop room's door, only until he coughed loudly for them did they turn around quickly.
"Neil! What brings you here?" Asked Avery, struck by the sudden interruption.
"Well, I'm here to collect my friend since we have to go back." Neil stated, trying his best to keep his tone even and not make a comment about how the two spent the entire evening together.
"Oh my," Cameron said, checking his pocket watch. "I completely forgot about the time. Neil, could you give me a second?"
Neil, a bit amused, took a glance between the two and nodded. Leaving the room but purposely keeping the door open. (For eavesdropping purposes, of course, because the boys were all huddled outside the small room.)
"Thanks for helping me with this, Cam. I would have been fixing this alone with no help if not for you." Avery started.
"Please don’t mention it, it is nothing. We still need some new hinges; I actually have some back at my room. How about I bring them Sunday?" Cameron asked with a hopeful tone and anticipating eyes, looking for any excuse to see the girl again.
"That would be nice." She replied smiling, already excited for Sunday.
The two stayed silent for a while, just smiling and staring at each other, neither of them wanting to put an end to their time together.
"Well, see you later, Avery." Cameron finally spoke up. And hesitantly, he reached out a hand to rest it on her arm before retracting it as soon as he could. He knew it wasn't the best move, but that was all what his frazzled brain could manage.
"See you.." she replied wistfully, looking at his back as he retreated with a smile, almost a smirk. Proud of himself and his sudden confidence.
When all the boys left, Avery only had herself to process this whole evening. Starting with a sudden urge to look at this boy she just met and ending with a promise from said boy to come back and fix her ballerina box. Her half fixed box now sitting in front of her the only physical evidence of what just happened. She didn't know why it was, but Avery found herself gravitating towards the way Cameron presented himself to her. The way he seemed to push through his comfort zone in favour of spending time with her. That simply endeared her.
She couldn't wait to meet her friend and talk all about this.
Elsewhere in a certain cave in a forest, there were six boys teasing a seventh boy. About how the seventh boy ditched the other six for a girl, or about how the seventh boy was being a tad more risky than usual. But the six boys didn't push it too far, because deep down, they were rooting for progress and hoping to get an update on Sunday night about the ballerina box.
And the seventh boy couldn't wait for Sunday.

🕊️Bonnie Gold HCs: You want to wait till marriage
A/N: I'm not much of a writer, and I did this for fun, so it’s not that good or anything
⊱━━━━━━⊱♡⊰━━━━━━⊰
He's a gentleman, so he would understand and accept why you would want to wait
But that doesn't mean he wouldn't accidentally get carried away sometimes
You would just be hanging out and kissing until Bonnie gets way too into it, and it turns into a hot make-out session too quickly
Would slip his hand under your skirt and up your leg or get too touchy with you
But the second you grab his hands to still him or show any indication that he's going too fast, he will immediately tone it down
Then he would get a bit embarrassed and guilty after, and you would reassure him that's you're not upset, that it's kinda funny and cute how he gets carried away
This arrangement also means that Bonnie can't stop thinking about marrying and proposing to you all the time (but he’d do that despite any situation anyway, he’s a yearner)
He already knows you're the one for him, and he'd rather marry you sooner than later if he had it his way, only so he can have all of you
But he holds back and waits for the right moment since he knows how important a special proposal is to you, and he wants it to be romantic too
To be honest, considering the other peaky boys around him whose sex drives are way too high to ignore, you were worried Bonnie would be the same, that he would look elsewhere for pleasure
But the idea of finding another woman besides you to satisfy him never crossed his mind, and if you or anyone mentioned the possibility of him having sex with someone else, he would be appalled
He loves you and agreed to be with you knowing your conditions. It was his choice to wait, and waiting patiently is what he will do
