heyy i really want to read the shatter me series but whats the order of it ??😭🙈
Oh my god hey, idek when you asked me this because I never even saw this until now!
Here's the order in which the Shatter Me series should be read:
Shatter Me 1.5. Destroy Me
Unravel Me 2.5. Fracture Me
Ignite Me
Restore Me 4.5. Shadow Me
Defy Me 5.5. Reveal Me
Ignite Me 6.5. Believe Me
The '.5's are the novellas, which are not necessary to the PLOT, but they're like the bridge between the novels, and play a really important role in understanding the characters. I suggest you read all of them in the exact order!
Happy reading!!!
P.S. I'D LOVE TO LEARN YOUR THOUGHTS AND OPINIONS OF THE BOOK AS YOU READ!

It's as if these people have no idea how trauma shapes a person....
Like dude, the girl's literally been through shits WORSE THAN HELL. You can't seriously expect her to even SURVIVE if she's not "bitchy" (which, she really isn't, the girl is TOUGH, like a survivor HAS TO BE in order to SURVIVE!!!!
These are the same people who'd be drooling over the "morally grey" male characters.
Calling Alex a "Pick me" is like..... the dumbest shit a person can do. BABE, SHE'S TRYING HER BEST NOT TO GET PICKED! "Not like other girls", she quite literally IS not like ANYONE ELSE, not the guys, not the girls. She's THE WHEELWALKER FFS!
"hard to imagine in a romance, depressing"....... OH MY GOD TELL ME NO ONE ACTUALLY HAD THE AUDACITY TO SAY THAT?! Who tf even said that NINTH HOUSE IS A BLOODY ROMANCE?! IT HAS ROMANCE, yes. BUT IS ISN'T "A ROMANCE"!!! If it were a romance, we wouldn't have been craving just for AT LEAST A Darlingstern KISS!!!! IT'S DARK ACADEMIA, IT'S SUPPOSED TO BE FUCKING DEPRESSING!!!!! These are the kind of people who don't read the label of the item they're buying, then blame the shopkeepers
The fact that there are people out there who don't like Ninth House is so baffling to me because I'm such a picky reader, and yet this book wrecked my life, I'm telling you
One of the best prose I've ever encountered, and yes, the story was messy at first but not so messier than many other fantasy books I read. I found it more engaging than a detailed, list-like wordlbuilding explanation that seems to be more common. Or even when they try to scatter it, it still comes off as "let's get the worldbuilding done with" and that's not something I found here, and I thought it clever and enthralling. I actually enjoyed deciphering the many quotes, mentions and foreshadowing. That's why I read it twice.
I was also surprised to find many people don't like Alex as a character. That's genuinely the most surprising one to me. She's such a complex, strong and intelligent woman! And she's an antihero, which I always enjoy.
Lastly, many people complained about the slow burn being too slow. This one annoys me a little. If you want your characters to get together within 300 pages, that's not a slow burn. If you don't want the tiny details, the tension, the "almosts", it's not a slow burn.

THIS.
Writing the middle part of the story is still the worst of all!!!

It's insane how casually the calls to end a genocide, not just the students in Columbia University but pro Palestinian views in general, are labelled as terrorists. The audacity to still publicly support Israel's actions even after the horrific bombings these last months and then turn around to say that the ones who oppose it are violent anti semites is just baffling

Reading reviews of readers saying they didn't like Alex was such a baffling experience to me..... like WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK IS THERE TO NOT LIKE ABOUT HER?!

obsessed with how we started from alex being unable to understand 99% of darlington's references and feeling like a total imposter (which she was), and we reached
She wasn’t sailing through her classes, but she was passing, a steady stream of Cs and Bs, a cascade of hard-won mediocrity.
followed by
Ill beat thee, but I should infect my hands. Alex couldn’t remember what it was from, but she was tempted to text it to Eitan.
and then later
“My heels are fetter’d, but my fist is free,” she whispered to no one. Or to Darlington, she supposed. Samson Agonistes. But he wasn’t there to be impressed by her Milton.
and finally
“You didn’t let the demon in the door. Sandow did. The societies did. When the time came, you stood between the living and the dead. Hoplite, hussar, dragoon, remember?” “You’ve been paying attention. I’m both delighted and unnerved.”
immediately followed by
He’d been prepared to speak, a quote from … His demon mind couldn’t manage it. He remembered Alex with her book of poems. Hart Crane. He grasped at the words.

YES. YES. YES. YES. YES.
Hell Bent spoilers:
Does anyone else think about that scene where Alex pretends Darlington just got back from Spain in front of the new Praetor? How she cried and flew into his arms and he was almost too surprised to hug her back? How that was the only time they’ve ever hugged? How Alex felt how warm his hand was on the small of her back? Bc as much as the other scenes are great, that’s the one I keep coming back to

I seriously have no idea how tf I'm gonna survive the next few years without the goddamned sequel.
Darlingstern moments that play in a ceaseless loop in my head, Vol. I
The fact that Alex was sweaty as fuck the first time they met and made Darlington roll up her sleeve to check for track marks
Darlingtons prudish shock when Alex takes her shirt off in front of him
The fact that they got shitfaced and broke a bunch of Lethe glassware??? Like she got Mr. Lethe to be like “fuck the rules”? And they passed out in the parlor???
Alex’s foot/hand/arm fetish
When Darlington complimented her Queen Mab costume, then said “didn’t someone say love is a shared delusion?” And “two people reciting the same spell”
Darlington getting annoyed when some guy hits on her
The “incident”
His heart hurting for the wanting of someone
The fact that Alex literally has constant imaginary conversations with him and everything reminds her of him and she always assesses how he would feel about her actions

i love when authors write women who engage in self destructive behavior to claw their way to esteem in an elitist environment when they already have twice the character and skill than those around them

I love this-
Cardan’s tail lives rent free in my mind.
For one thing, he can’t control it. He tries to hide his true emotions but his tail betrays him and reveals them, thus he keeps it hidden.
When Jude kidnaps Cardan and he exclaims he has a tail “Would you like to see it!” He’s not just being nervous and funny, he’s showing that he’s going to be completely truthful with her.
The tail is described as thin and mostly hairless except for a tuft of hair at the end. You know who else has a thin mostly hairless tail with a tuft of hair at the end? A lion! And Cardan’s tail behaves like it belongs to a cat.
For instance, the first time Jude and Cardan are intimiate, she describes pulling down his pants and

My dude, tail curled up against the body is a sign of vulnerability. And though my man had the initiative and experience, he felt vulnerable against Jude. In his mind he was exposing his feelings to this powerful woman that seemed to not be hurt by anyone or anything. In a later chapter he is hurt when she acts as though that intimate moment meant nothing to her.
The second time they’re intimate, Jude describes the tail as

Lashing back and forth is an aggresive move. It is done when hunting and ready to pounce. My girl had Cardan going. That man was ready to attack.
Then when they’re getting down to business, the tail

Baby, that’s possessivness. That tail is saying what Cardan is screaming inside, MINE! That’s his woman. The tail wrapping around another being is also done when the pair is bonded. It means they have accepted you as part of them. Jude isn’t just his woman, his wife; she has become a part of him.
Also, in question of if the tail wags from side to side when he sees Jude, it probably doesn’t. That’s dog tail behavior. Cardan’s tail probably shoots straight up in the air with the tuft end in a hook like a cat’s does when it sees it’s favorite people and friends.
