Kirsten is MY GIRL. She was the first doll I ever bought myself and I still adore her. (She’s actually currently hanging out on the couch with me right now.) Looking back, I may have been attracted to her initially because my mom read me the whole Little House series as bedtime stories when I was a kid, so I was already interested in the time period and lifestyle of Kirsten’s world before I even discovered her. Looking back on her stories now, I think I love the small ways Kirsten is unpredictable and ungovernable - she skips school to visit a friend in secret she knows her parents wouldn’t approve of, she fights a bear for honey, she invites an arsonous raccoon into her home, and then in order to replace the home the raccoon burned down she calls finders keepers on a dead man’s property. The girl is an agent of chaos, and I love that for her.

I feel like it would be a really fun writing project to create the missing journals from Dracula. What if Quincey, Arthur, Van Helsing all kept journals and just never passed them on to Mina. What were they writing about?

I feel like Quincey would be the type of guy to get excited about “Hey I’m gonna keep a journal starting now!” and write long, highly detailed accounts for like. Two days. Then as soon as the actual action begins he absolutely forgets about his journal until two months later when he comes back with “I saw a dog today!”

This is good advice and something I do!

My go to answer to “fun fact about me” questions is that I once filled a kiddie pool with jello. Doesn’t matter that I did it sixteen years ago (oh my god it’s been sixteen years wtf) but it’s innocuous, it’s weird, it makes people laugh, and it’s something I don’t mind people knowing about. Your answer doesn’t need to be so odd, but having a go to answer so you don’t feel put on the spot and panic is great.

WHAT A FUN ASK I haven’t gotten an ask game in so long!

Off the top of my head:

1: my dumb, adorable dog. I’m gonna put the most recent picture of him here. I don’t know what it looks like yet.

Oh my god.

2: I love thunderstorms! We had some last night and I slept so good. I’m also guilty of the stereotypical midwestern behavior of hearing there’s tornadoes in the area and walking outside to look for them. I did this today.

3. I’ve been watching The X Files lately. I love a good sci fi show. Love the monster of the week format, it’s such good spooky fun.

4: I love the moon. I got to watch the moon block out most of the sun a few weeks ago. It was delightful. I took awful pictures.

Lmao look how bad that is.

5: I love plants. I started some seedlings for my vegetable garden recently (probably a bit late in the season but uhhhh whoops) and they’re so small and adorable.

This picture is from a few days ago so they’re bigger, and more have sprouted since taking this, but I’ve got two varieties of tomatoes and three varieties of peppers growing! I’m zo proud of zem!

So I think I forgot to post about it here but I'm knitting my own wedding dress.

Y'all, the world is sleeping on what NASA just pulled off with Voyager 1

The probe has been sending gibberish science data back to Earth, and scientists feared it was just the probe finally dying. You know, after working for 50 GODDAMN YEARS and LEAVING THE GODDAMN SOLAR SYSTEM and STILL CHURNING OUT GODDAMN DATA.

So they analyzed the gibberish and realized that in it was a total readout of EVERYTHING ON THE PROBE. Data, the programming, hardware specs and status, everything. They realized that one of the chips was malfunctioning.

So what do you do when your probe is 22 Billion km away and needs a fix? Why, you just REPROGRAM THAT ENTIRE GODDAMN THING. Told it to avoid the bad chip, store the data elsewhere.

Sent the new code on April 18th. Got a response on April 20th - yeah, it's so far away that it took that long just to transmit.

And the probe is working again.

From a programmer's perspective, that may be the most fucking impressive thing I have ever heard.
