So I learned Asat is most likely the Ravager in charge of destroying Elation.

Until yesterday I never really thought each one assigned a specific path to ruin, but now that I’m thinking about it, how the heck does one do that with Elation that isn’t simply killing all life!? You can’t systematically remove elation from a society without getting rid of the people for one simple reason: people will find humor in their own despair.

It is kinda funny the evil organizations in Hoyo games feel more civil than the “good” ones. The Harbingers all stopped what they were doing to attend Signora’s funeral that the Tsaritsa put together.

Now we have Nanook looking over his Ravagers as they changed their plans to watch the ascension of a new member and potential escape of an old colleague. If I want to stretch it, even the IPC played nice when dealing with Aventurine’s trail.

Yoimiya:Kazuhaaaaaa! Hi.

Kazuha:Hehe, hello, my love. Enjoying your special day?

Yoimiya:It’s awesome! I’m already for tonight with you too. I planned ahead! But umm, have you seen Aether? My dad gave me a present from him, but I didn’t get to see him.

Kazuha:That’s unusual. He often carves out time to say hello at the very least. Perhaps he’s busy? Mailing gifts would be faster at times.

Yoimiya:That’s the thing, my dad physically saw him! He handed the gift in person. At that point, looking for me is totally something he’d do!

Kazuha:Hmm, that is out of ordinary for Aether. Perhaps what brought him to Inazuma in the first place was official business he couldn’t put off?

Yoimiya:Hmmm, I don’t know. My special Yoimiya senses are tingling. You really haven’t seen him?

Kazuha:I haven’t. Although…*closes eyes* I do pick up the familiar scent of the stars. That tells me Paimon was around. Meaning…

And so began the investigation! Yoimiya checked all the regular teahouses and restaurants usually frequented, asking about a famous blonde traveler. Sure enough, he was in the nation. Multiple sightings led her throughout Inazuma City until dusk. She kept what Kazuha said in mind, but something felt off…

If it was a surprise party then she wouldn’t have gotten his present. Not to mention the kids would’ve had it written on their faces. In the end, Yoimiya found herself on the beach underneath Tenshukaku. Should she be there? No guard was around to tell her not to. If it was actually a problem, the Shogun would probably send a bolt or lightning or something. Yoimiya was close to assuming Aether already left Inazuma, except for one solid clue that proved otherwise. The best thing about this area was it rarely disturbed; meaning footprints in the sand left an impression for quite some time. It wasn’t long before the suspect was found sitting alone near the water.

Yoimiya:AHA! FOUND YA!

Her announcement perked Aether’s head up. She waved enthusiastically but, received a reserved one before he started walking briskly in the opposite direction. Yoimiya’s jaw dropped before she broke out into a sprint, causing him to do the same.

Yoimiya:Aether!? Hey! Don’t- I’ll set off firework arrows!

Aether:*stops running* (Damnit…)

She finally caught up! Normally she would congratulate herself, but something was off. Aether turned to face the sea, avoiding direct eye contact as he sheepishly rubbed the back of his head. Yoimiya trusted her instincts and smiled

Yoimiya:Hey stranger! Long time no see.

Aether:Hey, Yoimiya. Happy Birthday. Did you get my gift?

Yoimiya:Yeah. The natlanese color dyes and pigments are sure to give my work a new pop. Although it would’ve been nice to receive them in person by you.

Aether:Sorry. I’m a little low energy. I didn’t want to ruin your day or worry about me. Guess I screwed that up too.

Yoimiya:Nothing is screwed up. I get ya. Still…if it’s privacy you wanted, I’m a little surprised you didn’t mail it. If ya ask me, you wanted a little interaction.

Aether:Heh, I guess I can’t deny that. I thought a change of scenery would be nice.

Yoimiya:….Where’s Paimon?

Aether:With Itto. They have a way of entertaining each other. So yeah, that’s about everything. Sorry if I’m out of sorts.

Yoimiya:It’s no big deal. Your adventures have to get tiring. Made any progress looking for your sister?

Aether:…..Yeah. I uh, I found her for a little bit.

Yoimiya:Oh…I’m sorry.

Aether:It wasn’t that bad. I’m fine.

Yoimiya:Is that why you aren’t smiling or looking at me?

Yoimiya:…If you need time, I understand. I get that talking immediately isn’t always the answer but don’t avoid me or feel as if you’ll put a damper on my day. We’re friends; best friends. You didn’t have to show up at all but you did. That’s already more than enough.

Aether:You…really are a kind person. It’s a little scary how well you can read people at times hehe. Thanks, Yoimiya.

Yoimiya:…Aether, can you give this birthday girl one more gift? Please look me in the eyes for a second. I won’t ask for anything more.

Silence fell between them. Even the waves seemed to hush themselves. Aether took a shallow breath before turning towards Yoimiya with a grin plastered on his face. Her eyes were filled with nothing but compassion and concern. He never stood a chance. Yoimiya watched the corners of his mouth quiver violently before his hand came over his mouth. The eyes that tried to say “I’m fine” broke into tears instantly. She didn’t hesitate to lunge forward, wrapping Aether in a warm hug as his voice finally broke into painful wails that made his heart ache and stopped him from breathing.

Yoimiya kept silent, witnessing one of the brightest people she knew take let everything out. She hugged him tighter, her own eyes watering as he hugged her back.

Aether:I…I just wanted her to stay! I wanted her to choose me! But I don’t think she ever will! Yoimiya, I’m so tired, angry, and…hurt. I thought this journey would end with her and I going home! Now I’m terrified I’m gonna lose a part of me forever!

Yoimiya:I…I can’t say I have all the answers you need. This journey of yours, it’s been hard in ways I can’t begin to understand; but I’ll listen to all of it. And I know one thing for certain. As long as you’re here, no matter the obstacles, you’ll never be alone. I promise.

His cries continued, hurting yet mending pieces of his broken heart. He wanted to feel guilty, to apologize to Yoimiya for doing this today of all days; but he didn’t. She wouldn’t hear of it. Her embrace came through loud and clear, telling him to keep crying. To allow this moment where he isn’t some hero or traveler. He was just a sad, tired boy in his friend’s arms.
