MCU Timeline: Black Panther
Millions of years ago - a vibranium meteorite crashes into Africa. The metal affects the plants around it, causing them to develop unusual mutations. One of the plants would later be known as the Heart-Shaped Herb.
Thousands of years ago:
Five African tribes settle in the impacted area and found Wakanda.
The panther goddess Bast comes to a Wakandan warrior shaman and leads him to the Heart-Shaped Herb, which allows him to become the first Black Panther.
He becomes king and unites four of the five tribes. The fifth, the Jabari tribe, isolate themselves in the mountains.
Thanks to vibranium, Wakanda is ahead of the rest of the world in technological advancement and hides in isolation to avoid the upheavals of the outside world.
~1980/81 - T'Challa and Nakia are born.
1981 - T'Chaka becomes king of Wakanda.
1980s:
King T'Chaka's brother, Prince N'Jobu, goes to the United States as a spy.
T'Chaka sends another spy, Zuri, to keep an eye on him.
N'Jobu falls in love with an American woman. They have a child - Erik.
N'Jobu becomes radicalized and comes up with the idea of giving vibranium weapons to black people around the world so they can overthrow all countries and let Wakanda rule them all.
1988:
Wakanda releases misleading tourism advertisement video "I Love Wakanda".
1992:
Knowing that T'Chaka will not support his idea, N'Jobu helps Ulysses Klaue steal a quarter ton of vibranium from Wakanda. This results in the deaths of Wakandans, including W'Kabi's parents.
T'Chaka comes to Oakland to bring N'Jobu back to Wakanda for trial. He reveals that Zuri was sent to spy on N'Jobu.
N'Jobu attempts to kill Zuri, but is stopped by T'Chaka, who kills him.
T'Chaka orders Zuri not to tell anyone what happened.
The Wakandans fly home, leaving behind the body and N'Jobu's son, Erik.
Young Erik finds his father's dead body with claw-shaped wounds on his chest.
2000s:
Erik Stevens graduates from Annapolis at age 19.
He then completes graduate school at MIT.
Stevens joins the Navy SEALs and is sent to Afghanistan, where he receives the nickname "Killmonger".
Killmonger joins the JSOC ghost unit.
At some point he also serves in Iraq.
Between April 2015 and May 2016 - Ulysses Klaue gets a prosthetic arm made from a Wakandan weapon.
The main events of the movie take place in mid-May 2016 (shortly after Civil War).
~May 8, Night - T'Challa and Okoye pick up his ex, Nakia, from her mission in Nigeria so she can attend his coronation the next day.
~May 9:
Morning - T'Challa, Nakia and Okoye arrive in Wakanda.
In London, Erik "Killmonger" Stevens and Ulysses Klaue raid the Museum of Great Britain with an African exhibit made of vibranium. They kill several people, steal the artifact, a mask, and escape.
Note: more proof that it's not summer, as the Official Timeline and Fandom Wiki would have us believe. Have you ever seen bare trees in the summer? Most of the trees around are already green, except for a few like in this screenshot, which means it's April-early May. We already know it's early May after the Civil War and Black Widow timelines, so this is just more proof that I'm right, yay.
~Noon - T'Challa's coronation. Zuri gives him a drink that removes T'Challa's Black Panther powers.
M'Baku, the chieftain of the Jabari tribe, challenges T'Challa but loses the fight.
T'Challa is proclaimed king.
Night - Zuri gives T'Challa a drink made from the Heart-Shaped Herb, which restores his Black Panther powers and sends him to meet T'Chaka in the Ancestral Plane.
After returning, T'Challa talks to Zuri about his father.
~May 10:
T'Challa asks Nakia to stay in Wakanda. Nakia refuses, saying that she has found her calling and that Wakanda should do more for the people outside.
T'Challa goes to talk to W'Kabi, Okoye's husband, about Nakia's offer.
Okoye gathers Wakandan leaders to inform them of the attack on the Museum. T'Challa promises W'Kabi to capture Klaue and bring him to Wakanda.
Evening - T'Challa visits Shuri in her lab and receives new communication devices, sound-absorbing automated sneakers, and a new suit.
~May 11:
Night in South Korea/Afternoon in Wakanda - Klaue's attempt to sell stolen vibranium to an American buyer in Busan, South Korea.
T'Challa, Nakia and Okoye get inside an underground casino where the deal is to take place. There, they meet T'Challa's not-so-old friend Everett Ross from the CIA, who turns out to be the "buyer."
Klaue arrives with armed guards. Okoye starts a fight.
Busan Car Chase that ends with Klaue's capture.
~May 12:
2 pm in South Korea/~7 am in Wakanda - Ross interrogates Klaue at the local CIA office. Ulysses tells Everett that Wakanda is not what he thinks it is.
Killmonger attacks the office and takes Klaue with him. Ross shields Nakia and is shot in the spine. The Wakandans take him to Shuri.
At an abandoned airfield, Killmonger kills Klaue and his own girlfriend, whom Klaue was trying to use as cover.
Evening in Wakanda - back in Wakanda, Suri heals Ross.
W'Kabi receives bad news that Klaue has slipped through T'Challa's grasp.
T'Challa visits Zuri and demands to know the truth about N'Jobu's fate.
~May 13:
Sunrise - Killmonger reaches the Wakandan border and brings Klaue's body to W'Kabi.
Everett Ross wakes up in Shuri's lab.
Noon - T'Challa and Nakia talk about T'Chaka's mistake that led to the creation of Killmonger.
1:35 pm - they are called back to the lab where Ross tells them about Killmonger.
The Wakandan leaders gather in the throne room. W'Kabi brings in Killmonger, who reveals himself to be N'Jadaka, N'Jobu's son, and challenges T'Challa for the throne.
Evening - T'Challa and N'Jadaka fight. N'Jadaka wounds T'Challa and kills Zuri. He then throws T'Challa off a cliff and, having won the challenge, becomes king of Wakanda.
Nakia helps Ramonda and Shuri escape. Shuri takes T'Challa's Black Panther necklace with her.
Night - Nakia returns to Okoye and asks her to help overthrow N'Jadaka. Okoye refuses.
Nakia takes Ross and they head into the forest to reunite with Ramonda and Shuri.
N'Jadaka undergoes the Black Panther ritual.
Nakia sneaks into the room and watches as N'Jadaka orders all the Heart-Shaped Herbs to be burned so that no one else can become king/Black Panther. She takes one with her.
All other Heart-Shaped Herbs are burned.
~May 14:
Jabari fisherman finds barely alive T'Challa and brings him to M'Baku.
N'Jadaka takes the second new Black Panther suit that Shuri made for T'Challa.
He orders vibranium weapons to be sent to Wakandan spies in every country in the world, so that they will start revolutions and kill those in power, their children, and anyone who opposes them. Thus, Wakanda will become the Wakandan Empire, and N'Jadaka will rule them all.
W'Kabi and Okoye argue, and W'Kabi tells her that he doesn't mind the coming war and deaths so that Wakanda can rule the world.
Evening - Nakia takes Ross, Shuri, and Ramonda to the Jabari to give them the last Herb. Jabari warriors surround them.
Night - they are brought to M'Baku, and Nakia offers him the Herb.
M'Baku takes them to T'Challa, who is in a coma.
Ramonda makes a drink from the Herb and gives it to T'Challa, restoring his health and powers.
In the Ancestral Plane, T'Challa talks to his father, who offers him to stay there. T'Challa tells him that he must stop N'Jadaka.
~May 15:
Morning - T'Challa and Co discuss the situation. Shuri gives T'Challa the Black Panther necklace with his suit.
T'Challa asks M'Baku for his army. M'Baku refuses to help.
~6 pm - N'Jadaka prepares to strike at New York, London and Hong Kong, where local "War Dogs" (spies) agree to cooperate.
Note: same places of power as in Doctor Strange, huh? Do you know any other cities, Marvel?
T'Challa shoots down one of his birds loaded with weapons.
Nakia, Shuri and Ross sneak into Shuri's lab.
N'Jadaka orders W'Kabi to kill T'Challa. The Dora Milaje attacks N'Jadaka.
The Battle of Mount Bashenga.
M'Baku and his tribe join in the midst of the battle.
Everett Ross destroys all Wakandan aircraft leaving the country with weapons.
W'Kabi and his tribe surrender to Okoye.
During their duel, T'Challa plunges his blade into N'Jadaka's chest.
~7 pm - T'Challa carries the dying N'Jadaka to watch Wakandan sunset.
T'Challa offers to heal him, but N'Jadaka declines the offer and asks to be buried in the ocean. He pulls the blade out of his chest and dies.
~May 16:
While out for a walk in the city, T'Challa kisses Nakia and asks her to stay again.
Some time later, but probably still in May 2016:
T'Challa buys the building where N'Jobu lived and died. And also two buildings next to it to create the first Wakandan International Outreach Center.
He and Shuri go to Oakland.
T'Challa places Nakia in charge of social outreach, and Shuri in charge of science and information exchange.
Probably June 2016:
At a UN meeting in Vienna, T'Challa announces that Wakanda is opening itself to the world.
Second half of 2016/2017/Early 2018:
Shuri deprograms Bucky Barnes and brings him out of cryo. The locals nickname him "White Wolf".

Hello, thank you for being forthcoming.
No, but it's a little understandable why you may have felt that way.
It is true that 616 Shuri had some MCU synergizing, but that was simply adapting elements or crafting a "fusion." 616 still was penned to come across as though she is in her early 20s (stated in Shuri 1's script). She still is Griot. Since Shuri's story from before is still very much canon to her now, it'd be impossible for her to be just 18.
You can maybe get a better sense of her age reading "Shuri" if you have not before. She interacts with Riri's peers Miles and Ms Marvel (a sheer maturity contrast you can feel), as well as adults like Iron Man.

I would wager Shuri being 18 in the first film.
That's what Letitia thought and was told.
It is what Ryan Coogler wrote.
It is in the published Black Panther Junior Novel.
It fits better with the second movie's script and official timelines. The Wakanda Forever script states Shuri was already in her 20s at the start of the film (a year past since then).

Nate Moore had occasionally hiccuped when discussing Black Panther film details. For example, he said Shuri and Riri had like a "rivalry" in one interview, when that isn't anywhere in-film. Maybe that was the case in conceptual pitches, but certainly not with the cut what we got.
Either way, I'm not really bent on her and Riri's age being "problematic" in the MCU. That'd be an odd hill to die on, considering Shuri's other ships lol.
That was a footnote not meant to be taken as its own, but the writer did that for a reason. I know the context, but there was a point to writing that (further decoding the intended dynamic between 616 Shuri and Riri. It also sticks out if you are familiar with how Wakandan characters use kin-terms and how Shuri particularly is with the addressal of "sister" in the comics) with everything considered.
I would be lying if I said I didn't dislike romanticized shuriri and it felt a little overbearing with the tagging (like queen shuri, which is particularly older comic based — she never took the throne in MCU), but that on its own I can ignore. I know my strokes are different and it's fine if yours is too.
It's just... Also seeing the 616 comics being used with shipping (not the first time) and sandwiched between romantic to outright sexual connotations is what got me. I was wondering if these things were even known.
It is reassuring to know your intentions and thought process, though.

I try to avoid saying this again, but now I feel compelled: Please remember characters and ships often won't be interchangeable with the big screen or alternate versions. 616 Shuri and Riri shouldn't be classified as a romantic ship or 616 Riri embedded in mature posts.
"Shuriri" (Princess Shuri and Riri Williams) in the main comics (Earth-616) is platonic. The original version of Ironheart is 15-year-old Riri Williams. This has been said in even Wakanda Forever material and on Marvel's page.
616 Shuri is an adult well in her 20s and meant to read at least in her early 20s.

Since 2022-2023, shippers tried to circulate it has been "canon" or more "food" in 616, citing their moniker in Ironheart Volume 1.
When, goodness no. Ironically, Shuri and Riri disliked the name "shuriri." 😂

When using comic Riri images in your ship boards and smut headers... You can imagine the juxtaposition comicbook readers or Riri fans feel seeing it in the tags.
Note: Riri is a child protégé. Her comic ages are 12 to 15.
Her peers are Miles Morales, Ms Marvel, Viv Vision... All of which are clearly young teens in school.

Shuri, on the other hand, was always a young adult. She even mentors younger generation heroes, like Ironheart and Moon Girl.
Shuri's youngest ages were 18 MCU-wise (now in her 20s) or 20 comics-wise (later resting in her 20s with a mind much older since Black Panther volume 6).
Letitia Wright's BP1 interview and Black Panther 1 and 2 scripts confirming Shuri's MCU age:

616 Shuri is an adult figure. Even when she was called a "child" back then in much older volumes (where she was younger compared to now), she was in the same sentence confirmed 20:

Another aspect I find uncomfortable is how shippers (or fans in general) disregard the part where 616 Riri deals with trauma to the point of therapy and is on a healing journey. She only just recently feeling able to have friendships (and only friendships).

This is a big plot point in Ironheart volume 1, but overlooked for shipping or aesthetics...
Look, I get it. Some fans saw Riri and Shuri on the big screen, fell in love with the characters, and read their interactions with romantic lens. Although that wasn't Ryan Coogler's intention, alright.
People ship relating, chemistry-having characters with or without the canon's checkmark. It happens all the time. It's whatever. Atleast unlike the comics, MCU Riri is 19 (taking away half of the sting).
However:
The comics are not the MCU.
Characters have a story and life prior to the films or shipping based on the films.
Please respect and be conscious of that. Especially when sharing fan spaces with comic readers.

I'm sorry... Why is 616 "shuriri" here? This is from the same comic. So is the confirmation of Riri Williams still being 15 years old.

I begrudgingly get Earth-138 (an alternate universe with questionable writing but unsurprising as Marvel let Ziglar do almost whatever). I can kind of grasp the MCU, since Riri is 19 and Shuri was snapped (losing 5 years, so she probably isn't in her late 20s). Even if Ryan Coogler said it was mentor-mentee and sibling-esque, creator input, canon, or even complete sensibilities doesn't exactly stop shippers.
However, as said many times by comic fans:
Shuriri in the main 616 comics is platonic. There are no romantic undertones, these aren't flirtatious.
Princess Shuri is an adult.
Riri is an underaged teenager.
Shuri at her youngest in the comics was 20 (and that was over a decade ago, with her aging up even more since then and when meeting Riri). Riri was at her youngest 12, now 15.
Compare:

and Contrast:

Comic-wise, 616 Riri is a little girl very much adult Shuri has no romantic interest in.

It's kind of strange how you glossed over the fact that I wasn't just talking about Earth-138. I wouldn't die on the hill reblogging a post involving the prime canon in which Riri is 15 years old (A MINOR) to Shuris 20s+ (AN ADULT). They're not "canon" unless you preface E-138 versions, which are disconnected and new versions. 🫢. I'm trying to tell ya the dangers in saying that.
Hope ya'll know that E-138 isn't the Marvel Cinematic Universe or E-616 before it's spread around as "canon."
These aren't the same characters. It's canon to itself as a new alternate reality, and it's Shuri and Riotheart, not Shuri and Ironheart. 😭 Main comics Riri is still a 15 year old and Shuri in her 20s with a platonic-"sisterly" coded dynamic. This clearly is unconnected to the Wakanda Forever film, too.

This is still the characterization of Shuri and Riri's relationship in the Marvel Cinematic Universe or the mainline comics (Riri is 15 there):

Lmao no? At best, it just means "shuriri" is canon in Earth-138, not at all prime or the mcu. Which reaalllllllllly isn't saying much for several reasons (including the fact that Marvel had their hands largely off the product, confirmed by the writer). Saying it's "canon" without that prefacer is dishonest. People think you mean canon in general or the main universe, not some completely disconnected alternate earth with different versions. It's like calling Stony, Scarlet Witch incest, or Daredevil being a woman "canon" because some earth got the liberty to do it (likely because it'll never happen otherwise). Let's be serious 😂.

Hope ya'll know that E-138 isn't the Marvel Cinematic Universe or E-616 before it's spread around as "canon."

I think it's fun how orange kind of became her color in the MCU. I wouldn't have expected it (ai thought white, purple, or blue)

SPIDER-PUNK: ARMS RACE ISSUE #1 is the name, but heads up: it is an alternate reality with Riotheart. It's not connected to the main comics or the MCU despite what the original poster advertised. These are different versions of the characters. They're not the ones you see in the movie or in like. Any other earth or universe outside of this one (E-138). They're doing their own lil thing and Shuri was probably (hopefully) aged down.
I think it's one of four issues that'll come out.
SHURIRI STANS RISEEEEEEE UP NOW!!!!!!! SHURIRI ARE DATING & NOW CANON IN THE MCU BITCHHHHH WE DID IT 🥳😭🎉
