Awaited Encounter~ Part 12
I’m surrounded by people that either think I’m crazy or are crazy.
Back when I first walked through the elementary school halls of my first year, I never thought I’d end up here. Caged behind white walls and a metal door.
Hell, I bet no one who ends up in a mental hospital thought they would end up in one. Maybe I am crazy, crazy for ‘visiting’ this place for a fourth time. Even the staff are starting to get sick of my dark sapphire eyes and long mitched matched hair.
My black and white locks reach to my mid back. It’s now been three years since my parents died. Three years since I’ve lost everything, two and a half years since I realized I lost Kou.
But I have found a way to cope with that.
“Stop it.” A voice snapped at me.
A bitter smile graced my lips, “you seem to only come out when I am in this place.” I tilted my head, making my white and black bangs shield my eyes.
A figure stopped by my door. I looked up to see a pair of familiar orbs looking down at me. My expression was replaced with a scowl as the door clicked open. A staff member bowed their head towards me, their face filled with misery just from looking at my state.
Those pair of eyes I hated so much grew a soft smile before releasing a tear. The staff member closed the door behind the female figure before walking away.
“Oh, my dear Keiji.” A soft tone cooed in dread. “I was so worried about you. You must stop doing this to yourself. Scaring your dear mother to death.”
My adopted mother, I wanted to correct but stayed quiet. I kept my eyes on the restrains that clung my body to the bed. I caught a glimpse at one of my old cuts I created from my first visit here.
The first two times I ended up here were all thanks to her. My adopted mother. The orphanage let me go a few years back. I was sad to leave Marry, but at the same time I barely felt anything anymore.
I rarely came out of my room because I didn’t know what to trust. I didn’t know what was real and what was fake. It’s a terrible feeling, never knowing what you can reach out and touch.
“How many times have you been here.” My mother whispered to herself, not expecting an answer to her ridiculous question. She knows, she knows it all. How many times I have been sent here because of my ‘accidents’.
This is the only place she can’t control me. The only place she can’t rule every move I make. This woman has a deep obsession with me; ever since I first came home to her.
‘You’re going to do great things Keiji.’
Ever since she spoke those words to me, I felt like a mouse trapped in a cage.
“You can’t hide here forever Keiji.” My mother spoke again, her index finger flicking against one of the many scars on my body.
I take that back… I am not a mouse trapped in a cage. At least a mouse gets its own area to live and flourish in. It’s more like I’m chained to her. Unable to take breaths without her counting them.
“Looks like we have to reapply the treatment.” She mumbled when she saw my scars starting to reappear. There is a special cream my mother buys to cover the self-inflicted marks around my body. It takes about a month for the cream to evaporate. By that time, I put on another coat to make sure no one see’s.
In all honesty, the cuts don’t bug me. My mother says they are scars of shame. Every time she looks at one, you could tell she gets uneasy. One time, I walked out of the shower without a shirt, and she lost it. My mother screamed and cursed at me for ruining the body she owned. After, she felt ill and threw up in the kitchen.
That event killed whatever self-esteem I had left. Not that I had much to begin with.
“Why are you here?” I asked the woman, meeting her eyes for a second before turning away. My mother’s fingers traced around my frame ever so gently. It was sickening. It felt as if she was checking to see if her favorite toy was still able to function.
She backed away to pull up a chair. When seated, her hands roamed my body once more. “I can’t check up on my only child?”
“I am not your child.” I bit with a snarl. My head jerked away from the hand that inched closer to my face. She patted my long, thick hair. A crooked grin flexing on her lips, “the papers say otherwise.”
The papers. That’s all, that is the only thing keeping the two of us together. No bond, no affection, nothing. I would run, I would tell anyone I could about what this woman has done to me. But everyone thinks I’m crazy.
That title was placed the first time I entered a mental hospital. The first time my hallucinations were diagnosed. The first time I got sick and tired of life and tried to end it.
Even in school I am labeled as the ‘weird’ kid . What a nice coincidence.
Her touch made me flinch. Her finger curled around my ear, squeezing the flesh that surrounded it. A bitter hiss escaped my lips while her face came closer to mine. “You can’t escape me Keiji. This place is your only salvation. Funny how a mental hospital gives you so much tranquility.”
My lips stayed straight but a tear fell down my cheek at her words and deep chuckle. It could be seen as funny in a twisted way. A kid born to be alone, finding comfort in the only place he can be alone.
It gets even stranger once I realized this is the only place I can get a goodnight sleep.
Even with the shrieks, scratches, and constant mistreatment. I still feel like I belong here. I am schizophrenic after all.
This place is no heaven. The patients here get beaten and abused as if they can control their mental state. I have been in a few scuffles with the staff members myself. But their physical abuse is nothing compared to the looks they give us.
As if we were less then human. They grow disgusted from our differences. We can’t control it. Don’t you think we would if we could?!
Do you think we enjoy feeling like outcast in society? Do you think we like waking up in the middle of the night because of night terrors? Do you think the random waves of depression or anxiety we get every five minutes or so? Apparently, they think we do.
Everyone in here can relate to one thing when locked in this place. The workers here don’t try to help. They are only waiting for us to die. Either because of health problems, old age, or because we kill ourselves.
Two of those options are less common then the other.
Everything clicked once the doctor said I had schizophrenia. It’s said to cause social with draw, inappropriate actions, and personal relationships into fantasy. Kou.
Those are only a few of the many factors that come with this mental disorder.
My mother leaned back and got off her seat. She glanced at me, mild loathing dripping from her glare. “You’re such a smart kid.” She started, saying the words I have heard a million times.
“You were once so beautiful as well.” Her orbs traveled down to the limiters on my legs and arms. Gritting her teeth, she looked back up to meet my gaze. “Now look at you, broken and pathetic.”
The words hit me hard as the door slammed behind the woman I hated most. The woman I am forced to call my mother because of some papers.
My strong facade broke when she left. A large shadow casted over my face as I let out a silent wail. The cuts on my body felt irritated from the wraps on them. I didn’t cry though; I held my tears back. Now I was only feeling pure frustration.
A few minutes passed before I was able to calm down. Deep breaths pushed out my lungs in a pattered fashion.
“You need to stop this.” A voice echoed through the room. I tilted my head, my expression becoming dazed from the person standing in the corner.
“Can’t we have this conversation later.” I huffed out. My arms settled by my side while my core stiffened in discomfort.
Footsteps clicked against the tiled floor as the light in the room began to fade.
“I can’t do this anymore Akashi!” The silhouette hissed at me. A pair of golden eyes leaned over me, glowing in the darkness of my room.
I stared right back at the eyes I treasured so much; all emotion gone from my face. “You are a hallucination my mind concocted. Wether you are ok or not doesn’t matter.”
The golden eyes flinched a bit from my words. I could see the figure above me grit their teeth. “Let it go.” They pressed.
“Let what go? I have nothing to have in the first place Kou.” I bit back.
Kou squeezed his eyes shut, his hands balling into fists. “Let me go…” He mumbled.
His words floated in the air before I could truly grasp them. A bitter chuckle left my lips, “what are you talking about? You are a hallucination.”
“Akashi you know what I am talking about! Stop acting like you don’t!”
“I don’t.” I lied, about to turn my head away but Kou’s hand caught me. I don’t understand. Whenever I have my other hallucinations, none can touch me. But for some reason, Kou can always touch me.
“Stop it Akashi! Don’t act like this is nothing-“
“YOU AREN’T REAL! YOU HAVEN’T BEEN REAL FOR YEARS! I’M NOT EVEN SURE YOU’VE EVER BEEN REAL FOR FUCKSAKES!” I screamed, struggling against the items holding me down.
Kou leaned closer to my face, his expression growing in anger. “OH YA? THEN WHY AKASHI?! WHY DO YOU KEEP HURTING YOURSELF BECAUSE OF ME?”
“How do you know it’s for you? Have you ever thought that I am so pathetic that I should do it?! Have you ever thought that maybe I do it to end my suffering? Or to feel something for once?!” A half truth covered by a lie. It is true I used to want to end my suffering, then I noticed a pattern each time I am near death. I get to see him.
Kou placed his arm on my chest, stopping me from jerking and trying to move. “We both know that’s not why! This place, this sick, colorless place, is the only way you can see me. I am your subconscious trying to stop you from hurting yourself! That is the reason why you drain your body of so much blood.
It’s sick Akashi! Seeing you hurt yourself, just to see me. Do you think I like seeing you this way?!”
My neck strained in the harshest way, “you said it yourself… you are only a part of my mind! You mean nothing to me!”
“I mean everything to you! You love me!”
“I LOVE KOU! THE REAL KOU! The weird kid everyone disliked. The only person that could light up my day with a smile. The only person who I always wanted around! You aren’t him! YOU WILL NEVER BE HIM!”
Kou leaned back, his face pained as he looked down at me. “Then how would he feel right now.” I froze. My eyes widened as the gray-haired boy continued. “I am a part of your mind. The part of your mind that is trying to stop what you are becoming. Do you know why I care? Do you know why I look like Bokuto? Because he is the person that means the most to you. Not even your own mind could shut such a feeling out. Your body acts to protect itself… seeing me- seeing him is your protection.”
My back settled on the sheets. My face still frozen in shock from my own subconscious. “What…?”
Kou didn’t answer me. He took off his hands from my body and smudged something on his cheek. “Now I can go, since you have finally realized.”
That statement brough me back to reality. I turned my body as best I could and saw Kou’s body slowly fade. “Stop it.” I whispered. He is disappearing.
“Stop it damnit!” He can’t go, I still have so much wrong with me.
“I told you to stop it!” I wanted to shut my eyes, I wanted to turn my head and pretend none of this was happening. But I couldn’t turn away. I knew deep down that this would be the last time I would see him.
“Aren’t you a part of my mind?! Listen to me damnit!” Hands pressed against my cheeks. My eyes began to water from the fact I could feel his touch fade. “You know I have to go Keiji.”
Tears streamed down my cheeks, “please. Please don’t leave me… I know you’re not just a hallucination. You maybe something my mind concocted, but you’re more then that. You look and act like Kou.”
Kou’s face drew closer to mine, his lips tapping against my forehead. I tried to reach out and grab Kou to keep him here, but the attempt was just that. An attempt.
“Don’t cut me out. Please. Please. Please. Not so sudden, can’t we do this later. Koutarou… if you go, I’ll be so lonely. Please don’t let me be alone! That is my worst fear, nothing is worst then isolation. Koutarou please don’t leave me.”
Their touch faded from my cheeks fully. The only thing that remained was their golden eyes. “Don’t leave me please! I am begging you; I can’t lose another thing I love! Not again!”
After my words, everything was gone. Even in my blurred vision. I could tell that it was only me. I was truly alone after clinging on for so many years.

Awaited encounter~ part 11
A knock on the door made me stir awake. My blue eyes settled on the door at the front of the room while it opened at a slow rate. A mop of pure brown hair came into view, next light green eyes. “Good morning Akashi, all the other kids woke up already. Are you feeling any better?”
I turned to face the woman, my feet hanging off the hard bed I’ve been sleeping in for months. “Yes Marry, I just feel a little sick that’s all.” I replied while tilting my head towards the window.
With a tiny smile, the woman nodded and walked into the room. She placed a plastic tray on the communal desk and took a seat in one of the other beds. I have been in an orphanage for almost half a year.
The transition between having everything and having nothing was still taking it’s toll on me. Though… I still have something.
“Would you like me to stay with you today Akashi?” Marry asked me. Marry is the head of the orphanage, she is a very nice woman who treats kids well. All the workers here are nice, it makes my dim situation a little brighter.
The place is small, with only seven or so kids crowding the area. The kids here seem ok as well, but of course none have my attention.
“No, it’s ok, I like being alone.” I muttered back. Marry gave me a worried look, it’s the same look she has been giving me since I first came here. She placed her hand on my mostly white hair and stroked it.
The shock of my parents’ death caused my raven locks to turn white. Slowly, the white hair is being pushed out by my black roots. I kinda like the look though… It reminds me of a certain someone.
Marry removed her hand, her eyes straining to hold back tears. She cleared her throat, “ah yes of course.” Her loss of weight made the bed shift as she headed towards the door.
Before she left, she gave me one more glance. “Akashi… there is someone interested in adopting you.”
The news made a sudden pain spark in my stomach. It felt as if someone took my stomach and churned the acids out of it. Marry flinched, but before she could run to my aid, I spoke. “Later. Let’s talk about this later.”
After that, the brunette left me alone with my thoughts. I sat by the window, watching the sun inch across the sky. A few kids would pass by my window. Either to get a ball or because they were playing tag around the large house.
When night came, the kids returned to the room, a few spoke to me. I was too tired to be snippy. I guess to them I looked sick, pale, getting closer and closer to death.
I hated it. I hated the pity and attention they gave me. Every second of it.
Soon enough, everyone went to their designated beds to sleep. I stayed on mine, staring at the same window. Marry thinks I do this because the night sky attracts me, but it wasn’t the night sky.
A pair of golden orbs reflected in the glass. I blinked a few times before realizing who it was. With shaky hands, I opened the window. Everyone was asleep so I had to be as quiet as possible.
Soft winds pressed against my face, causing my eyes to squeeze shut. “Kou…” I mumbled while opening them. The gray-haired boy smiled at me, “are you coming or what?”
With an eager nod, I crawled out the window and stepped outside. Me and Kou have been sneaking out ever since I’ve gotten here. The fact that the two of us haven’t been caught yet is a miracle.
We only explore outside on the weekends, so Kou won’t be too tired for school. I stumbled on the grass, trying to muster up the strength to walk. “Akashi… are you ok?”
“Yes.” I huffed out once I was stable. “Do you want to go to the lake?” Kou nodded with a smile. The both of us skipped across the dead road.
Kou talked my ear off as he always did. He talked about his sisters, his mom. Kou loves his mom more then anything. After his dad passed away about a year ago, he got especially close with his mom.
The both of us took a seat on the edge of the lake. Stars flooded the sky, reflecting on the crystal-clear water of the lake. Small flowers swayed in the cool breeze while fireflies flew past us.
“What’s with that look Kou?” I asked when I realized his stare. Kou blinked a few times before reaching down to touch my head. His touch has felt different ever sense the car crash. I bet it’s because of how sick I’ve been feeling.
Kou rested his body next to mine, not taking his hand off my head. “I- I love your hair Akashi.”
I blushed a bit before pulling at a string of my locks. It was down to my shoulders since I never bother to cut it. “Oh…” Even though the white in my hair is caused by the pain I suffered all those months ago. I can’t get over the fact it reminds me of Kou’s.
“Yes… I think you look beautiful.” My eyes widen at the smile Kou made when saying those words. It made my body tremble with an emotion I couldn’t place.
A finger swiped over my cheek, smudging a tear I didn’t realize fell. “It’s a good thing Akashi. Don’t cry over it.”
Kou’s words only made more tears swell in my eyes. I get compliments about my looks all the time, but from Kou it’s different. I don’t know why it’s different. Why it makes my nerves flare and my stomach tighten. It just does.
Soft hairs tickled my neck when Kou laid his head on my shoulder. “I don’t like when you cry Akashi, even if it’s happy tears. It’s because I care about you so much.” The gray-haired boy settled his arm on my shoulder while he continued to speak.
“I care about you a lot, Akashi… more than anything you know? I want to keep you safe, but I couldn’t do that. I know you think it’s stupid… it is stupid but. Sometimes I feel like your accident, with your parents… I blame it on me. I know what you’re thinking, I know what you’re going to say. But I do, ok?”
My tears dried on my cheeks as I let Kou talk. I don’t blame him for the accident, none of it is his fault. If anything, the reason I am here today is because of Kou. He is the only reason I am still standing.
“What do you think that means Kou?” I asked, interrupting him suddenly. The gray-haired boy rose a brow, “what?”
I tilted my head towards the stars, taking in their beautiful glow. “If there is something in this world you can’t live without, what is that called?”
Kou hesitated before answering, “I don’t know Akashi, you’re suppose to be the vabulary person.”
“Vocabulary.” I corrected with a small smile.
“See?!” Kou laughed, pulling me closer to him.
“I see. What if you needed something so much that it hurts when you’re not around it? This is a vague explanation, but can you name something in your life that is like that? Maybe a bond.” I asked, turning my head towards Kou for his answer.
The gray-haired boy rubbed his chin with his free hand with a puzzled expression. “I hurt when I’m not around my sisters, when I’m not around my mom.”
My smile grew, “see I think that’s lov-“
“I also hurt when you aren’t around.” Kou finished. My body froze, staring at Kou with a bewildered expression. “Wh-what? You do too?”
Kou looked down at me, “of course. I miss you a lot even though we see each other often. When I am far from you, I hurt. Do you hurt when I am not around you?”
“W-well not exactly.” I mumbled with embarrassment creeping on my cheeks.
Kou frowned, his eyes falling towards the ground. “Oh...”
The pain in his voice made my stomach tighten. “Yes.” I admitted, biting my lip and hoping It would cheer him up. It was true, whenever Kou leaves me, it feels like the colors in the world dim. Sometimes it scares me.
“You love me Akashi?” Kou asked. His golden eyes glowed in excitement. He pulled my body closer to his, making a surprised gasp leave my lips. “Don’t say it too loud.” I whispered.
Kou chuckled, “I love you too.” Those words lifted a weight off my chest. I sighed in relief before closing my eyes and letting Kou hug me for just a little longer.
A few minutes past and I decided to go back to the house. Bokuto walked me to it. I couldn’t go through the window I came out of, it’s too high. There is a window in the hallway that I can squeeze through.
Bokuto normally follows me in until we reach the bedrooms. Somehow, he never gets caught.
Both of us came into the house carefully, but I noticed a light was on. Curiosity got the better of me. I pressed my back against the wall and saw Marry talking to another older woman. Marry handed the woman a file, the file had my name on it.
“He’s a great kid.” Marry stated. Her smile turned into a sad one when the woman took the papers from her hand. “But.”
But? Now my attention was fully locked in. I could feel Bokuto pull against the sweater I was wearing but I wouldn’t budge. For some reason, I couldn’t look away.
“After the accident he had some mental damage along with his physical.” The room in the air grew stale as the stranger holding my papers placed them to the side. “The voice?” She asked.
Marry nodded, “even after six months… Keiji… still hears a voice. Sometimes I can even see him talking to it. But… no matter how hard I try to look and see who he’s talking to, no one is ever there.”
“What?” Marry’s head snapped to my direction. Her sad expression was replaced by pure horror. She jittered out of her seat, as well as the woman sitting across from her. “Keiji? How- why are you still up?”
My lips quivered as I turned my head to face Kou, “Y-You can’t see him?” I shot my finger in Kou’s direction before turning back to Marry. Her eyes wandered around but they couldn’t land on Kou.
That is when everything clicked in my head at once. Why Kou has never been caught, how we were able to sneak around so much. Why his touch feels so different.
I stepped back away from Kou subconsciously. All this information made my head throb.
“Keiji please calm down.” Kou said. The more I stared at him, the more I saw the truth. Kou’s body seemed to fade in front of my eyes. Now the boy I knew for years, my only best friend… the only person I had left looked like a ghost.
“of course. I miss you a lot even though we see each other often. When I am far from you, I hurt.”
Those words were fake?
“I care about you a lot, Akashi… more than anything you know?”
Those words were fake….
“I love you too.”
No one said those words.
Everything came together… and I wish it never did. “Get away from me!” I screamed, not just towards Kou but towards everyone. I couldn’t even open my eyes; I was too scared I would see Kou vanish completely.
“Go away! Go away! Leave me alone!” I yelled at the top of my lungs, covering my ears as my body fell to the ground.
The pain in my head grew as I thought back to the past six months. All of it was a lie. None of it was real. My frame jerked multiple times as I felt my consciousness slip away. I could hear Marry’s voice screaming to call 911. I could hear the rumble of other people’s footsteps as they entered the room.
But I didn’t want to hear that, I didn’t want to hear any of it. I only wanted to hear one person. The one person I still had left in this world. I wanted to hear the one person I still loved. But I couldn’t
He is gone… and I’ll never be able to hear him say those words to me ever again.

Part 10~ Awaited Encounter
The grip on my wrists made me flinch when my body hit the rough wall. Smirks and snickers gathered around me as the older boys saw my pained face. “You shouldn’t have made my sister cry.” A slightly deep voice growled.
My eyes squeezed shut in discomfort. To think I got myself into this situation just for rejecting a classmate. How is my disinterest my fault anyways?
I was walking home when these morons ganged up on me, as if they had pride in beating up someone younger then them. From the looks of it, they were two or three years older than me. Putting them at 10 or 11.
Normally I don’t walk home but my mom and dad are packing up for our weekend trip. My house is only ten minutes away and my neighborhood is peaceful. Therefore, walking home should be no problem… at least that’s what I thought.
A couple days ago, the prettiest girl in the grade asked to hangout with me after school. I decline like always. She must have been having a bad day because she started to sob in front of everyone.
I don’t understand why everyone wants to hangout with me anyways. I already have someone to hangout with, and that will never change.
Many people have dozens of friends. I only need one, Kou.
“Your sister should have taken the hint that I don’t want to be bothered.” I bit back before gasping in sudden pain. A sting resonated in my ankle from the boy’s kick.
Both my legs felt shaky and the grip on my wrist wasn’t loosening. From the looks of it, there are three boys in total. Just great.
A hand waved in front of my face, taking off my black glasses and tossing them on the ground. I squinted at the brown-haired boy, since my vision was now blurry. “Was that necessary?” I muttered with a snarl.
The boy holding my hands back shook his head to move his ginger hair from his eyes. “What kind of loser likes being alone?” He scoffed with the rest laughing behind him. I could tell these guys all shared the same brain cell.
“What a weirdo!” The blonde on the left cackled.
The ginger pressed his head closer to mine, making me bend my neck to back away. “Maybe it’s because you hangout with that weird kid. Maybe his freaky behavior rubbed off on you-“
Before the boy could finish, I slammed my head against his. His grip stayed on my wrists, but his head swung back from the sudden impact. The two boys behind him stared with wide eyes. As if watching the boy in slow motion from the hit.
Gritting my teeth, my blue eyes narrowed onto the main boy. “DON’T YOU DARE TALK BAD ABOUT KOU! DO YOU HEAR ME?!”
Red liquid dripped out of the gingers nose as one of the two boys behind him gripped my hair. Once again, I flinched in pain. My chin tilted up towards the clouds with my feet barely touching the ground.
Water stung my eyes, but I refused to let my tears fall. I won’t cry because of someone who dared to say something bad about my best friend.
A sudden blow to my side made me let out a shriek. I tried to keep my voice calm, but the pain advanced through my body. My vision grew darker with my pupils staggering.
“What are you gonna do about it? What is with you two? It’s like you both are happy being outcasts!” The main boy shouted, a vein pulsing in disgust.
“Outcasts you say?” A voice interjected, causing two of the boys to freeze up. The main boy turned his head quickly, eyes widening from the tall girl behind him.
The girl had pure white hair cut to her shoulders. Her height was unmatched, being a full head taller than the main boy. Her golden eyes made me freeze.
A jean jacket covered her shoulders, with a middle school uniform covering her body. She tilter her chin, growing a snarky smile from the fear growing in the boy’s eyes. “And what’s wrong with that?”
“Nothing sister.” Another voice replied. The three boys tilted their heads to find a raven-haired girl on their right. Her golden eyes scanned everyone, also giving off a cocky aura.
The raven was shorter than the white-haired girl, but the same height as the main boy holding me down. Her hair was cut, and her body was built like a small doll. Like the other girl, she also wore a middle school uniform.
After a moment of silence, one of the boys asked the million-dollar question. “Who are you two? Mind your own business, will you?!” The ginger bow growled.
The girl with the white hair scoffed, putting one hand to her lips and the other on her hips. “Cute of you to assume this isn’t my business.” The raven-haired girl walked closer to the taller one, laughing along.
My eyes adjusted as a figure came from the right of me, gripping the hand that held mine. When my stare focused, I saw bright golden eyes. These eyes felt so familiar, I knew they were Kou’s but… they were different.
Kou’s normal excitement has burned off. Replaced with a fiery anger that had no evidence of vanishing. “Let him go.” The gray-haired boy murmured. His hands clamped down on the main boy’s, causing him to hiss and pull back.
My body slid to the ground, weighed by exhaustion and pain. Three pairs of bright eyes focused on the three boys who beat me up.
This moment was deemed as the most terrifying event in my life. Seeing three pairs of malice filled orbs set on one target. As if any movement the three boys made would mean certain death.
It was beyond intense.
“Go away.” Kou spoke, shewing off the boys before turning to look down at me. The three boys scattered quickly, not even bothering to throw back an insult.
My head fell on my shoulder as I tried to calm down my ragged breathing. Soft hands tapped against my cheek, bringing my head up to meet shining eyes. The malevolence Kou once carried had vanished. Now only worry and regret clouded them.
“I’m so sorry Akaashi. I was walking back home with my sisters when I saw you. I shouldn’t have let you walk home alone; I should have been by your side.” Kou’s voice shook as his eyes started to water.
With little strength, I picked up my hand and wiped Kou’s tears away. “Stop it. Thank you.” Kou froze when I tapped my lips against his forehead. His cheeks warmed up slightly before he swallowed.
“Can you stand?” I tried pushing off my knees onto my legs, but my ankle wouldn’t comply. With a deep breath, I gripped my thigh, “no.”
Kou smiled at me and turned his back towards me. He kneeled down and gestured for me to hop on.
His sisters watched, fond grins on their faces while I struggled to climb their brother. At the time, I didn’t know why they were smiling but I could tell it was something important.
With my arms hanging off his chest, Bokuto gripped my thigh and pushed me up to adjust me. My heavy body relaxed onto his frame. I couldn’t help but sigh in comfort. “Thank you, Kou.” I whispered, pressing my head into the crook of his neck.
“Thank you, Keiji.” Kou replied. I was too tired to question why he thanked me. I just knew I was happy, happy that Kou was back at my side.
The three siblings walked me home, chatting to one another as they went. The eldest, Ai, started teasing Kou about how protective he was about me. The second eldest, Meg, agreed and laughed along.
I have heard of Kou’s sisters before. You could tell they were all close.
When I arrived home, my mom and dad greeted me with worried looks. Ai and Meg explained who they were and what happened. My parents have met Kou before, they were pleased to find out he saved me once again. Though neither were surprised.
I was so happy. So very happy.
At that time, I didn’t think anything could go wrong. That was until me and my parents went on our trip the next day.
Dust and smoke rose in the air, surrounding the area and suffocating my lungs. My deep blue eyes shook, trying to take in the unbelievable sight around me.
With hesitation, my small fingers smeared against the fluid on the seat in front of me. It stuck to the cloth making up the seat, staining my fingers in red.
Sprayed glass pieces protruded my temple and neck. But I couldn’t feel any pain. With care, I tilted my head to look at the people in the front seat.
My mom’s eyes were wide open but held no life in them. Her head laid on the stirring wheel with her hands falling to her side at an agonizing pace. Blood dripped from her shoulders and head ever so slowly.
Sirens screamed in my ears yet were blurred out by my never-ending shock. With a strained huff, I turned my head to look in the passenger seat.
My father’s eyes were closed, but his body was limp. Very much dead.
His back curled to support the dead weight of his head. The sound of droplets falling caught my attention. It was blood falling from the tip of his nose onto his covered thigh.
Unknown to me that the entire time I was screaming, my throat felt as if it was about to collapse. Smoke stung my eyes while my own blood ran down my neck and filled my white shirt.
Finally, the shock ran out and my head felt light. My body went numb. With my back hitting the seat and my fingers twitching.
Weights added to my eyelids with my vision cutting in and out. I couldn’t tell what anything was, but I swore… I could see something. Something Bright with a hint of gold.

Awaited Encounter~ Part 9
Bokuto pov!
The smaller body next to me stirred and twisted around. My eyes peeled open to see Akashi still laying beside me. His back was flushed against my chest while our legs tangled under the gray comforter. My head was tucked behind his neck, making my breath tickle his skin.
I let out a long exhale to see if Akashi would react. The smaller boy let out a soft squeal and pushed further into me. “Stop doing that Kou.” He mumbled in embarrassment. I closed my eyes again and smiled.
Very little light entered the room with Akashi’s curtains covering the window. I didn’t know what time it was, and I didn’t care. Me and Akashi have no classes tomorrow because of some national holiday. Meaning I can spend the entire day with him, and maybe the next day too. That fact alone puts a smile on my face.
Once again Akashi shifted on the bed. I kissed the back of his neck, feeling him freeze from the sudden affection. My hands trailed his covered chest. Akashi was the only one of us wearing a shirt since I discarded mine to sleep.
My hands went under Akashi’s shirt to touch his warm skin. The brunette kept twitching from the feeling, making his body press against mine. “Kou… I-I didn’t think you’d be so active in the morning.” Akashi groaned.
I chuckled, “if you keep rubbing yourself against me, I’ll get more active.”
Akashi said nothing, he only pressed his hand to his face to hide his blush. I chuckled again, “I’m only kidding. I rather lay with you and give you small kisses like this.” I placed a peck on Akashi’s neck as an example.
My boyfriend moved again, this time to face me. The blanket around our legs tightened as our chests touched. “Kou, about that date we promised, do you have anything planned?”
“Yep! Today.” I answered with a smile. Akashi rose a brow, “really? Where?”
“That is a surprise! But I do have to contact Oikawa to set it up.” I reached over Akashi to grab my phone. I put it between me and Akashi and turned it on. Before I could even open it, Akashi suddenly jerked.
Our bodies moved together, making Akashi crash on top of me as we fell off the bed. “Ow Akashi. What was that for- Ow!”
Akashi tried pulling out of the blanket until his legs were free. The smaller boy darted out of the room as fast as he could. I got up and rubbed the back of my head. What was that about?
I followed my boyfriend out of his room and groaned at the brightness in the living room. When my eyes adapted to the light, I was surprised to see Akashi on the ground by his kitchen.
The scared look on his face made me rush over to him. Akashi had his hand over his heart with soft pants pushing past his lips. His shaky blue eyes stared at the counter in front of him. “Do you-you see her?”
I turned my head to the counter before looking back at Akashi, “what are you talking about?” I watched as the brunette squeezed his eyes shut, “pills… can you get me my pills?” My boyfriend shot his finger in the direction of a cabinet.
Making sure Akashi was steady, I stood up and got the medicine he was asking for. With a glass of water, I kneeled in front of him. “Here.” The brunette pushed the pill on his tongue and swallowed it down with the water.
He sighed and opened his eyes, “thank you Bokuto.”
“Of course. Do you need help up Akashi?” I wrapped my arm around his waist and pulled him up. His legs shook as we walked to his couch. With care, I laid him down on the couch with me supporting his side.
A long pause of silence settled between us. Akashi kept his eyes closed the entire time, his head laying on my lap.
What was Akashi looking at? No one was there… could he have been hallucinating? Why did it happen now? Was it because he took his meds late… “Akashi?”
The brunette curled his legs to his chest and turned his head, “later. Please. Can we just go on our date?” Akashi raised his hand to lay it on mine. His fingers knotted with mine and tightened.
“Of course.” I whispered, trying to hide the worry in my voice. Both of us stayed still until Akashi got up and headed towards the shower.
A sigh left me as I trailed my hand through my gray hair. “Might as well call Kuro.”
Kuro didn’t answer the phone, neither did my sisters or Kenma. The next on my list was Oikawa.
“The lovely, fantastic, and devilishly handsome Oikawa speaking.” The pretty boy answered in a groggy tone. I must have woken him up.
My eyes trailed back to the bathroom door, “I need your help with something.”
“I’m sorry the lovely, fantastic, and devilishly handsome Oikawa is busy I’m afraid.”
“Oikawa you’re sleeping on my couch.” I stated with a pout.
A ruffle came from the background. Next you could hear a groan coming from the other line. “Oikawa… what are you doing on my couch?” Another ruffle came through, “I am not doing anything- Iwa-chan~ not there.”
“Don’t do naughty things on my couch!”
Oikawa gasped, “excuse me! I the lovely, fan-“
“Yeah I get it ok? I need you to do this for me though Oikawa. This is very important, do you understand?”
The pretty boy went mute for a few seconds, as if pondering on the statement. “Sure, text me what you need Bokuto.”
With a relaxed expression, I said goodbye to Oikawa and lifted from the couch. After texting him the details, I decided to make Akashi breakfast.
Glancing around the kitchen, my eyes drifted to Akashi’s daily pills. From the looks of it, they have been refilled recently. My thoughts paused when I heard a ring resonate from the bedroom. I walked over and took a seat on the bed.
With care, I moved around the sheets and pillows on Akashi’s bed until I discovered his phone. By that time, the call has ended. All I could see were dozens of notifications coming from one person. A woman named Delta.
Who is Delta? And why is she so adamant on calling my boyfriend- not that Akashi can’t call other people. I don’t own him or anything…
“Kou, what are you doing with my phone?” Akashi’s voice made me freeze. I threw my hands up with wide eyes. “Uhh nothing?” I answered while turning to him.
Akashi’s wet hair stuck to his glistening flesh. The light hit his deep blue eyes perfectly, making them shimmer in the tinted room. A pure white towel wrapped around his body, from his chest to his mid-thigh. The cloth exposed more of his creamy legs and slim shoulders.
I could see the brunette tighten his grip on his towel from my stare. “Nothing Akashi, it was ringing so I went to check it. I’m sorry I didn’t mean to evade your privacy.”
Akashi shook his head, causing beads of water to slide down his cheek. “No Kou it is fine.” My boyfriend walked closer to me and held out his open head. Before I could place the phone down, the same person called again.
The name Delta flashed over the screen, causing my jaw to clench. Akashi could see the jealousy dripping from my golden eyes, “Kou, that’s my mother.” He whispered, as if the words were venom on his tongue.
I stopped glaring at the device to look at him. Akashi has never talked about his parents before. Judging by his tone, I doubt he has anything good to say. But why?
The brunette took my shock for granted and swiped the phone from my clutch. He tossed it on the bed after silencing it and started to dig in his dresser. “Later.” The smaller boy whispered to me. I blinked a few times before nodding. It’s always later. “Do you want me to make breakfast?”
Akashi nodded. I made a simple breakfast, eggs and bacon. Akashi stayed in his room till I called his name when the food was finished.
A baggy sweater laid on Akashi’s shoulders. The brunette pulled up the pants falling off his waist and took a seat at the table. “I think I need new clothes; none seem to fit.” He whispered.
“You should eat more.” I commented while placing the food in front of him. Akashi pulled at my arm and brought my face closer to his. He pecked my cheek, “thank you Kou.” His soft words made me smile.
“The breakfast was nothing Akashi, I like cooking for you.”
“Not that. Well that too but…” Akashi trailed off and pecked my cheek once again. “Thank you for being so understanding.”
My smile grew softer from his words, “of course.”
We ate in comfortable silence. Normally I would try and ease a conversation out of him, but I could tell he liked it this way. Sometimes I would glance up and see Akashi scrunching his nose in annoyance.
He wasn’t grossed out by the food. The stubborn brunette was trying to decide whether or not he should use his fork to eat the bacon. Akashi doesn’t like getting his hands dirty. I can’t help but grin at the sight, he’s so adorable.
“Akashi, why aren’t you eating my food?” The brunette peaked up, “Your food is great Kou I swear. But I don’t want to get my hands dirty.” I knew it.
“Oh, I see.” I smirked while reaching over the table. I picked up the bacon Akashi was glaring at and put it by his lips. The brunette flushed from the fact that I was feeding him.
His small mouth opened up and clamped around the food. While chewing, Akashi’s eyes never left mine. The stare almost made me blush from how tense it made me.
The next time, Akashi’s bottom lip brushed against my finger. The light touch made a burning sensation crawl up my neck. The sudden embarrassment reminded me of the fact I still had no shirt on.
Deep blue eyes flickered up and down my body in an almost hungry way. Akashi leaned closer to my hand to tug the rest of the food from my grip. A soft tongue ran against my fingers before quickly pulling away.
I watched as Akashi’s tongue slid past his lips with a small smirk on his face. “I like when you blush Kou. I feel like I accomplished something.” The red hue on my cheeks increased from his words. Akashi giggled at the look on my face, making a knot form in my stomach.
Akashi never giggles… it sounds so mellifluous. The brunette stood up, keeping his eyes on me as he walked closer. Akashi’s eyes looked different than usual. Instead of cold and distant they looked warm and filled with life.
My boyfriend placed his body on mine. Sitting on my lap with one of his legs on either side of me. “You don’t understand Kou.” He mumbled with his forehead resting on mine. I would have questioned his statement if I wasn’t awestruck by how close he was.
“Thank you Kou.” I didn’t know what to say, I didn’t know what to do. Akashi’s voice was soft and soothing, while his words were passionate and nerve racking.
I felt the knot in my stomach tighten when his lips brushed against my cheek. Akashi’s weight didn’t even register because of how light he was. It worried me, how drained he looked half he time. But besides that I wouldn’t change anything about him.
Akashi is beautiful, smart. You can also say he can be a complete nerd at times. In rare occasions he’ll ramble about how the teacher stated a definition incorrectly. Or how the example didn’t quite fit the terms used.
He’s very picky about everything. Even the people he talks to. I bet he doesn’t even notice how many people stare at him when he walks around in public. How eye catching he is to everyone because of his beauty.
My boyfriend can be oblivious at times.
Akashi hesitated when his small kisses ended at the corner of my lips. The brunette batted his eyelashes, as if adjusting to my face. My golden eyes traveled from his eyes to his lips, “You don’t have to thank me, I already told you.”
I could feel the tips of Akashi’s fingernails scratch against my abs. One of his hands traveled up my chest, resting over my heart. His eyes widen a little as his teeth clamped down on his bottom lip. “Can you feel my heartbeat Akashi?”
Akashi nodded, “they say when you lie… your heart races faster. Your heart is racing pretty fast Kou.”
A laugh left my lips, “that might be because the most amazing person in my life is sitting on my lap.”
“Oh…” Akashi mumbled in embarrassment. He started to pull his hand away, but I stopped him from doing so.
I grabbed his wrist and placed his hand back over my heart. I leaned in closer to the brunette, making him arch his back for our noses to touch.
One of my hands went up Akashi’s shirt. My palm grazed over his nipple before placing over his heart. I could feel his heartbeat, it was as fast as mine. “You never have to apologize. I want to help you, I will always want to help you, Keiji.”
Dark sapphire orbs widen when I used his first name. I closed my eyes at a slow rate and before I knew it my lips were on his. So far, all our kisses started with me taking the lead, but this time Akashi did.
The hand on my chest slid up to my neck, bringing my face closer to he could deepen the kiss. “You know Akashi, I could spend all day kissing you.” I uttered as the brunette panted for air. “We still have a date to go on.”
Akashi’s lips parted to say something but instead he squealed when I stood up. His legs tighten around my waist while one of my hands when under him to support his thigh. “Kou, you said we had to go.” Akashi said in a stern whine.
Small fingers dug into my muscular shoulders as I began to move, “I don’t feel like letting go yet. Let me find a shirt first.”
“Of course.” I smiled at the eye roll Akashi gave me. I put Akashi on his bed and looked for one of his shirts that could fit me.
“Try that drawer Kou, I sleep in those.” My boyfriend informed me while pointing. I nodded and went through it.
There was an oversized, plain black T-shirt lodged in the corner. It wasn’t oversized to me though; it was about my size.
After I put the shirt on, me and Akashi walked out of the apartment. Akashi started the conversation, he seemed to be in a good mood even with the whole incident.
He asked if I saw her… saw who?
“Kou? How far is it from here?”
I blinked a few times before answering, “A couple more minutes.” I gave Akashi a soft smile before he began to talk again.
When we both ended up in front of an abandoned building, the brunette started to question me. “This looks like the place criminals stash their bodies.” He snorted.
“I promise you there are no bodies here. Well besides us.” I chuckled while dragging my boyfriend along. Akashi kept making sly comments as we walked up the stairs of the structure.
To be honest, his remarks only made me excited. Especially sense I have been planning this date for the past few weeks.
We stopped at a door, with me smiling and Akashi frowning. “I have a bad feeling about this.” The brunette said while rubbing his temple.
A smirk grew on my face as my hand pressed against the door. This was the last floor of the highest building in the city. An old, abandoned clock tower. Its structure is fine, the reason why it is abandoned is because of the clock.
When the door was opened fully, I turned to look at Akashi. His eyes were wide, taking in all the details of the tranquil area.
The ground and walls were made of a light brown wood. A large, fluffy rug laid in the middle of the room with pillows and blankets decorating around it. You could tell the area was freshly clean sense only small specks of dust pushed into the dark corners.
Fairy lights hung in the air, giving the room a good lighting for what’s about to come. I pushed Akashi in the room and shut the door behind him. With pep in my step, I walked to the left corner of the room. There laid a small gift bag.
Akashi shadowed me, taking a seat on the rug. His lips were parted but he was too shocked to say anything. “So.” I began while turning to him. “I thought maybe we should be like those other couples that go out to eat for a date. But that seemed too… boring you know?
So then I thought I could make something that fits both you and me.” I said, taking a seat next to Akashi. I reached in the bag and pulled out a few items, “tell me what you think. Snacks for both you and me, water bottles because you like room temperature water. Weirdo. And!”
The last item I pulled out had Akashi frozen in place. It was a small box, in the box stood three books from Akashi’s favorite series. “I know there are many sides stories that fit that series, but I researched it and narrowed it down to the main three.”
I tapped my finger against two books, “I know you have these three already, but the ones I saw at your home seemed old. I don’t know if they have any sentimental value. But I bought these ones just in case you want to read them without the damage getting worse.
Anyways, your real gift is behind the pillow next to you.” Akashi blinked a few times before reaching behind him and finding another book. More shock added to his face, “how… how did you get this one? It’s not even out yet…”
“Hey hey hey! Don’t doubt my amazing skills-“
I paused when I felt Akashi’s body crash into mine. Frail arms wrapped around me, “I never doubt your skills Kou… I’ve never doubted you.” Those words felt like they held a deeper meaning, but I couldn’t place it.
Akashi backed away and pecked my cheek. His eyes shimmered in excitement with his hands gripping the new book. I smiled, “go read. Let me call Oikawa real quick and I’ll come lay down beside you.”
With a nod, Akashi slumped into the pillows and began to read. I left the room and called Oikawa. The pretty man didn’t answer so instead I texted him.
After clicking send on the message, a notification popped up on my screen. It was from an unknown number. With one foot in the room, I opened the chat. My brows flexed at the sight. Dozens of photos flashed before my eyes. They were downloading since the area I am in now was not known for its internet.
One photo did load however, it was blurry with only a side profile being shown. Is that… Akashi?
“Kou, how about I read you the first book?”
Akashi’s words surprised me, making me turn off my phone and shoving it in my pocket. “But I bought you the new one. You don’t have to Akashi; I know how excited you are for the new one.” I stated while taking a sit beside him.
“No, Kou I want to.” Akashi crawled into my lap as he read the first book out loud. I paid attention to every word he said, letting the story string me along.
A couple chapters passed before Akashi closed the book and turned to face me. “Do you like it so far?” The brunette said with a rare, excited smile. His look of enthusiasm made me grin, “yes I do Akashi. Whit is my favorite.” I cheered, referring to one of the main characters in the book.
Akashi started to laugh, it was full and hardy. At the end of it, he snorted. Seeing him like this, happy and enjoying himself. I couldn’t help myself.
I leaned down and placed my lips on his forehead. I could feel Akashi’s entire body freeze under me. With hesitation, I backed away to look at him. A lump formed in my throat when I saw Akashi’s eyes start to water.
“Hey hey hey… what’s wrong?” I whispered, moving one of my hands to cup his cheek. “In my family, a kiss on the forehead means you really care about someone.” My words were made to make Akashi feel better, but for some reason they had the opposite effect.
More water piled into his deep blue eyes, “I know.”
A long silence filled the room. He knows… what does he mean by he knows? Did Meg or Ai tell him that? Then why is he crying? Is it out of joy?
The more confused I got; the more worried Akashi looked until he spoke. “Kou.. I have something to tell you.”

Awaited Encounter~ Part 8
I stumbled towards the unknown campus with an exhausted expression. It was Saturday, two full weeks since me and Bokuto had our first kiss. Nothing big has happened. I have grown more comfortable with Bokuto’s affection. Meaning I stopped blushing like an idiot every time he would give me a gentle smile.
These two weeks gave me time to think about me and Bokuto’s relationship. I think I am ready.
My eyes wandered around the large building which I assumed was the gym. Before I entered, I noticed a figure slumping in the corner. They sat on the stairs in the front of the building, their face shadowed by their bleached hair.
Black roots ruffled when the figure pulled their red hood off their head. From their jacket, I could tell they must be a member from Kuro’s team. “Is this where the practice match will be?” I watched as the person shivered from my words.
Their head turned in my direction. Cat-like eyes laid on mine, “Yes.” The boy answered before placing his attention on his hands. In his hands was a gaming device of some kind. I don’t play many games, so I don’t know which kind.
Their lack of attention didn’t bug me. I went along ahead, opening the door to the gym at a slow rate.
Sneakers squeaked along the ground of the creamy gym floor. Two colored jerseys scattered across the area.
Even with all the people I could still spot Bokuto’s multi-colored hair. He was doing stretches with another member of his team. Bokuto was talking while the person next to him laughed along.
“You came Akashi!” A voice called out. Before I knew it, a heat source attached onto my body. Their legs wrapped around my frame and their arms went over my shoulders. “Hey Meg.” I greeted with a stiffened tone. I still wasn’t used to how energetic she was.
Ai came after Meg quickly to remove her off my body. “I’m sorry Akashi. Meg, he likes his personal space, you know like most humans.” Ai stated with an eye roll.
Meg pouted and let go of me. Her childish expression reminded me so much of Kou’s, it made me crack. “Ai it is alright. I can handle it.” The eldest gave me a skeptical look. She sighed and let go of the smaller girl.
Meg attached to me within seconds, making her look like a human backpack. “You sure this isn’t too much for you Akashi?” Ai asked again once she saw how strained my face was.
I nodded and adjusted Meg on my body. The woman was like a light monkey. She stayed on my back as I walked with Ai towards the seats.
Meg jumped off me and bounced in her chair, “aren’t you going to say hi to Kou? You know, give him a little boyfriend luck.” I looked towards Kou and winced at the amount of people standing around him.
“Uh, I don’t belive in luck.” I whispered. The sister’s frowned at me.
Ai took my hand while Meg started to push me, “no time to be a pushover.” The eldest puffed out.
“Yeah, Akashi you got this.” Meg cheered.
Resisting was useless. Before I knew it, I was in the middle of the court in front of Bokuto, Kuro, and another player. Kou’s eyes lit up when he saw me, “Akashi! You came!”
Meg gave me one last push, “Yeah.” I managed to squeak out. Bokuto and Kuro looked at each other, then me. “Relax. I swear the people here are harmless.” They said in unison.
Bokuto’s hand reached out and landed on the other player’s shoulder. “This is one of my teammates, Konoha. He is probably the meanest one here, if you can handle him, you’ll be fine.”
I scanned Konoha’s features as he growled at Bokuto. He had pale green eyes and light hair. The man was skinnier then Bokuto but more muscular than me. “It is nice to meet you Akashi. And don’t listen to that idiot, I am not mean only honest.”
Konoha stuck out his hand with something you could call a smile. “Calling someone an idiot is considered mean Konoha.” Bokuto pouted as I took Konoha’s hand.
The pale-haired man shook his head, “nope. That is just honesty.” Kuro held back a laugh as Bokuto yelled at his teammate.
Seeing Bokuto interact with Konoha made me smile. I am glad Bokuto has grown more popular over the years. He deserves loving friends to keep him company. Not that I would describe Konoha as loving.
A few more people joined around me and Bokuto. I scooted closer to the team captain while he introduced me to his teammates. They all seemed nice.
“Looks like you have almost met everyone Akashi.” Bokuto said with a smile. He leaned his head down and planted a quick kiss on my cheek. Everyone was talking amongst themselves, so no one noticed. Almost no one.
“Save it for the bed.” Kuro whispered while jabbing at Kou’s side. Bokuto stuck out his tongue, making childish faces to mock Kuro. My brow twitched as Kuro started to mimic the action. Idiots.
Both coaches called their teams together, making everyone disband. I started to walk back to the seats with the sisters when my shoulder pushed against another.
Cold gray eyes graced mine, as the person who bumped into me stopped moving. They had crisp light blue hair and an undercut. Their skin was tanned, and their body was as fit as Kuro’s.
“What’s with that look?” The man spoke, turning his full body towards me. Something about the man’s voice made my resting bitch face activate. “What’s with yours?” I said with a tinge of annoyance.
The man tilted his head to the side, making his jawline more prominent. From the guy’s eyebrow slit to his tight volleyball shorts. Everything about him ticked me off.
A cold tension floated around the two of us until we suddenly broke away. My scowl melted off as I united with Meg and Ai.
The three of us watched the game closely. While watching the game, I noticed a few things. One, the blue-haired guy I ran into was the main setter for their team. On the court, him and Bokuto seemed like an unstoppable duo. The sight made a bitter taste form on my tongue.
Another thing I noticed was that the bleached haired boy I met outside the gym was also a setter. “That’s Kenma.” Meg interjected when she noticed my stare.
I looked at Meg with a shocked expression before focusing on the boy. “I didn’t think Kuro would be into someone so… anti-social.”
“Yes, because you’re such the extrovert.” Ai remarked with a sarcastic smile. “Looks like both our little brothers like the quiet type.” Ai continued, her smile turning into a fond one.
“That or they love dominating their submissive partner.” Meg giggled.
My cheeks warmed up from her words, “I-I can dominate.” The words died in my throat when I tried to say them. Meg laughed while Ai smirked, “Can you even hold Kou’s hand without fainting?”
“Yes I can!” I answered a little too quickly. Both girls chuckled at how loud my tone was.
A whistle blew shortly after, signaling a timeout. I looked over to Kou’s team as they walked to the side of the court. Bokuto’s hair was dropping down and his back was crunched. Oh no, he’s in his emo mode.
Without hesitating, I walked over to Kou on the sidelines. I don’t know what took over me, seeing Kou sad has always made me act first and think later.
“Are you ok?” My hands were pressed against Kou’s cheeks, bringing his face closer. Kou’s eyes adjusted to mine, “Akashi… I don’t remember how to do a line shot.” Bokuto’s shoulders dropped down further as his face grew disgruntled.
A voice called from behind us, “Bokuto has a few… weaknesses.” The coach stated. My head turned to see the coach and teammates, “yes I know, 37 to be exact.”
The coach’s eyes widen from my words, “well I didn’t count them… who are you?”
I let go of Bokuto’s face and bowed to the coach, “my name is Akashi Keiji. I attend the same college as Bokuto.”
The coach looked between me and Bokuto before snapping his fingers. “Oh, you’re the boyfriend he doesn’t shut up about.”
I looked over to Kou with pursed lips. He gave me a nervous grin and scratched the back of his neck. “You’re very fun to talk about.”
Konoha walked in front of the coach with his hands on his hips. “I guessed you were the boyfriend. I am sorry for the amount of brain cells you must have lost dating him.”
“Konoha shut up!” Bokuto whined.
The coach redirected the two before talking to the rest of the team. I just stood there, watching Kou as he pouted through the entire discussion. “Could you please…” I started.
All heads turned to me. I scanned each face, frowning a bit at the blue haired setter before continuing. “Could you please give a perfect set to Bokuto? You only need one. One good hit from him and he will be usable again. That is all I asked.”
I bowed my head to the setter, gritting my teeth while doing so. I may hate him for an unknown reason, but if it makes Kou happy again, I will do anything.
The blue haired setter snorted when I picked my head back up. “I was already planning on it.” The blue-haired man looked at Kou, a mysterious emotion clouded his eyes.
The game started again. I stayed by the sidelines, slouching on the bench while Kou and that setter ran the game. I could pick up a few traits from the players on both teams.
One, Kuro and Konoha have an unspoken rivalry. Both seemed to get cocky when blocking each other’s teams. Two, Kuro has full trust in his setter, aka Kenma. Kenma seems to be very logical on his decisions. Very cat-like if you ask me. Lastly, that blue-haired setter is quick on his feet.
He makes calculated choices when it comes to setting the ball and who to set it for. That fact alone made me hate him more.
The game ended with Bokuto’s team claiming victory in two sets. Making them the winner.
Bokuto walked over to me, sweaty and smiling. “You see that? I told you I’m the best!” I handed Kou his water bottle and patted his damp hair, “I already knew this.”
Meg and Ai came soon after, next Kuro and Kenma. Kenma shadowed Kuro with a stoic face. “I’ll beat you next time bro.” Kuro stated while pulling Bokuto into a hug. “I doubt it.” Both team captains chuckled.
“Oh, it’s all the Bokuto’s.” The coach commented from behind me.
“Hey.”
“Hey hey!”
“Hey hey hey!”
The three siblings greeted. Me and Kenma winced from their loud tones.
“How’s the soon to be husband Ai?” The coach asked. Ai has been engaged for a couple months now. She and the coached talked about the coming up wedding. Her and Meg went to this college a few years ago so they are well acquainted with the instructor.
Kuro came up from behind me, “you coming to the after party?” He asked as he laid his arm on my shoulder.
Bokuto placed his arm on Kenma’s shoulder, “you must come to the after party.”
Both team captains had a smirk playing on their lips. “Kuro is already dragging me, I don’t need you to as well.” Kenma huffed in a minor tone.
“Kou didn’t tell me about an after party.” I stated innocently.
“It’s not an ‘after party’ per say. Kuro and Bokuto invited two of their old friends for pizza and drinks at their apartment. The sisters are coming as well. Have you met Oikawa and Iwaizumi?” Kenma explained.
I shook my head, “well they aren’t as loud as these two. Actually, Oikawa is but Iwaizumi keeps him in line for the most part.” Kenma continued.
Bokuto let go of Kenma and walked to me. He wrapped his arms around my body, but before he could speak, Konoha interrupted. “Bokuto, there are flowers waiting for you at the front of the gym.”
I could feel Bokuto’s body stiffen around me. He then sighed, “they are still sending gifts.” I glanced back at Kou with a confused look, “who is sending you flowers.”
“Bro here has been getting fan gifts for the past year now. Someone must really have a crush on you.” Kuro butted in.
My lips turned into a frown, “I didn’t know you had a secret admirer.”
“I didn’t think it was important enough to talk about. They are small gifts Akashi; I normally just give them to Kuro or Konoha.” Bokuto jerked his head, signaling for Konoha to agree with him.
Konoha nodded, “yeah that is true. You have nothing to worry about Akashi.”
“Konoha will take them home Akashi.” Kuro placed his hand on Konoha’s shoulder with a forced smile.
“Um, no I won’t. I have a deadly allerg-
“Konoha will take them home Akashi.” Kuro repeated, pulling Konoha along with him.
The last thing I heard was Konoha whispering a curse under his breath as the two walked away. I turned to Bokuto, “are you sure this is nothing?” The gray-haired man put his water bottle down and wiped his sweaty face with a towel.
Bokuto pulled me closer, planting a kiss on my cheek and placing his head on top of mine. “I swear.” Bokuto’s warmth made my body relax. I could feel his damp skin brush against mine as I wrapped one of my arms around his waist.
With hesitation, I pressed the pad of my fingers against his knuckles. Kou’s hand flexed slightly before opening up. I locked my fingers with his, intertwining our hands. Both of us said nothing as I pulled away, keeping our hands together.
I pulled Kou along. He stared at me, surprised to see me leading the way for a change. More surprised by the fact I am holding his hand. He smiled at the sight.
It took a while for everyone to gather together. Kuro returned with Kenma by his side and the sisters greeted Kenma happily. We all walked back to Bokuto’s apartment, chatting amongst each other.
Ai and Kuro threw remarks at one another with the main topics being Kenma and Bokuto. Kenma stayed silent. He played on his device and Meg watched him and cheered. Kenma is also used to the sister’s strange behavior. Though he isn’t as close to the family as Kuro.
For once, Bokuto was mute. It actually scared me a little. Every time I would glance at him, he would be looking down at our hands. At first, I thought it bothered him, but the smile on his face pushed that thought away.
I liked this. Walking with this group and having Bokuto by my side. I haven’t felt this happy in years…
“Beautiful.” Bokuto whispered, grabbing my attention. “You’re smiling again Akashi, it’s beautiful. I love it.”
By this time, we were at the stairs leading to Bokuto’s apartment. I stopped and let the rest of the group walk ahead. “Kou… you are the only one that can make me smile like this.”
My eyes stayed on his, loving the attention he was giving me. Kou leaned in closer to capture my lips. A small squeak left me as Kou’s hands placed on my waist. His body pushed harder against mine, trapping me between his chest and the wall.
One of my hands gripped the clothing on his chest while my other laced around his neck to pull him closer. No one has ever made me feel this way. Everything about Bokuto interests me, from his flexible attitude to his caring nature.
He’s so imperfect that it is perfect! Perfect for me anyways. His hands scaled up my hips, going under the clothing to feel my untouched skin. Every movement he made cause my body to flare. My cheeks were bright red, but I didn’t care. All I wanted right now was Bokuto’s warmth.
Both of us took the kiss slow. Neither one of us have any experience in a relationship as passionate as this one. The naïve side of me would call this true love. The mature side of me would question whether or not this is love.
“Akashi, you make me feel that way too.” Bokuto said breathlessly when he broke the kiss. Small pants escaped my lips, my eyes hazy from a mixture of passion and embarrassment. I nuzzled against the hand that was on my cheek, giving a few kisses to his palm as he spoke.
“You make me feel different Akashi… you make me comfortable with myself. I have confidence as you know but… it’s just different. I don’t know how to explain it, but I really like hanging out with you.”
This is it; this is the perfect time to tell him anything and everything. Even about our past… “Kou…” But I couldn’t.
“Let’s go on a date.”
Kou’s eyes sparked from the news. His expression made me feel less guilty. “Hey hey hey! Can I plan it? Can I? Can I Akashi please!?”
I sighed, “fine Kou fine. Relax ok?” Kou pressed his lips against me with a giddy smile. His hands rose higher on my body, pulling me as close as he could. My eyes squeezed shut at his built-up affection.
“Look Iwa-chan there is a show!” A mocking tone called out. Bokuto parted from me quickly, his eyes glaring at whoever said those words. He soon calmed down, “if it isn’t Oikawa.”
A man with pretty brown locks waved to Bokuto. Behind the pretty man was a more grumpy looking one. “You ruined their moment Shittykawa.”
“The other is Iwaizumi.” Bokuto informed me. He let go of me to greet the other two boys. I stayed behind, watching with a smile on my face.
“The name is Toru Oikawa, and may I say you are pretty.” The man said with his hand towards me. I took his hand and shook it. Oikawa pulled my hand closer to him. His head leaned down but before he could do anything, Iwaizumi acted.
A sharp sound came from Iwaizumi’s hand hitting against Oikawa’s head. “Ow Iwa-chan!” The brunette hissed.
“Stop flirting for one second Oikawa!” A silence settled in the air as Iwaizumi walked up the stairs of the complex.
Bokuto whistled and turned to Oikawa, “what did you do? He never uses your real name.”
The pretty boy sighed, “Sorry that I brought you him like this. It was nice to meet you though beautiful. Now I gotta go cool him down, see you inside!” Oikawa waved before leaving me and Bokuto.
Me and Kou decided to join the others as well. The moment was over anyways. When we walked inside, a dark tension settled on our shoulders. Oikawa and Iwaizumi were on two different sides of the room.
Ai sat next to Oikawa, trying to cheer him up. Meg stood with Iwaizumi, attempting the same thing as her older sister. “Do you have a plan?” I whispered to Bokuto. Kou cringed at the sight, “yeah… maybe. Go sit with Oikawa, ok? Kenma is over there too, you two can bond about being anti-social.”
“That isn’t something you bond about.” I stated with pursed lips.
Bokuto chuckled, “yeah, yeah, now go.”
I did as told. Me, Ai, and Oikawa started with a light chatter. Kenma would tune in once in a while when a topic interested him. On the other side of the room, laughs lingered. From what I can gather, Meg dragged the boys into a drinking contest.
Ai laid her head down on the couch cushion, “you know Oikawa, you should stop flirting with others. You are dating Iwa after all.”
“So, you two are dating?” I asked with the tilt of my head.
Kenma picked up his head and snorted, “have you seen their sexual tension? Not even a knife can cut that.”
Oikawa scoffed, “like you can be talking kitten. When are you going to pounce on that rooster of yours?” I smiled at the irritated face Kenma made.
A small warmth touched my leg. I looked to the side and saw baby owl pawing at my thigh. “Are you going to claw me again?” I whispered to the animal. Baby owl replied with a meow before crawling on my lap and nuzzling against me.
“Fine I guess you can stay here. You make any sudden movements; you get no treats tonight.” I gave a playful glare to the cat. My heart melted when the kitten meowed again and purred against me. “Why are you so cute darling.” I said while nudging my finger against the animal’s chin.
I looked back at the group. Oikawa was laying by himself on the couch and Kenma was back to looking at his gaming device. Ai stood up, “hey Kuro, me and Meg are going to crash here. I’m taking your bed.”
“Ok big sister!” Kuro slurred back.
Kenma sighed, “great, he’s drunk.”
Ai stopped walking and turned to the college boy approaching her. “You haven’t called me ‘big sister’ since we were little.”
Heavy eyes laid on Ai’s, she snorted at his obvious intoxicated state. Kuro put his arms out and hugged Ai, “I love you so much big sister.” He shoved his face on Ai’s shoulder. She froze from the sudden contact before exhaling.
“Kenma, can you take him? Bokuto’s room if you don’t mind.” Kenma got off the couch with a snort and grabbed the back of Kuro. “Come here, come here.” Kuro turned swiftly and gave Kenma a goofy smile.
“Let’s cuddle Kenma.”
“No Kuro, we are putting you to bed.”
“But we always cuddle kitten!” Kuro whined, now putting all his weight on Kenma. The pudding haired boy blushed madly, “I hate when you’re like this.”
The shorter boy pulled the drunk one across the room till they reached Bokuto’s bedroom. Ai went into Kuro’s room, leaving me and Oikawa together.
“How long have you been dating Bokuto?” The pretty man asked, his eyes staying on the celling. “A couple weeks, we are going on our first date soon.”
“Well, aren’t you lucky. Bokuto never dates. He rejected at least half his high school a while back you know. You must be something special.” Oikawa trailed off, mumbling the rest under his breath.
The pretty man peaked up when Iwaizumi came into the living room. The drunk man said nothing. He crawled on top of Oikawa, resting his head on the pretty man’s chest. “Say anything and I’ll hit you.” He grumbled.
Oikawa looked down at his boyfriend and smiled. His fingers threaded through Iwaizumi’s hair as he rested his head on the arm of the couch.
“Hey hey hey.” A soft voice whispered in my ear. I turned my head to face Bokuto, unlike the others he looked normal. “Are you sober?” I asked, placing my hand on his cheek.
Kou nodded, “yeah I’m not a fan of alcohol.” Kou went quiet. He pulled me off of his recline chair and hugged me. “I haven’t told you this… my dad… he died when I was very young. Liver poisoning.”
I knew all this; I was there when Kou’s dad first entered the hospital. “Oh, I’m sorry for asking- “
“No, it’s fine.” Kou tilted his head down to look at me, a smile laying on his lips. “I want you to know everything about me.” Of course you do…
“Anyways, do you want me to drop you off home?”
“Why don’t you sleep over?” Bokuto’s eyes widen from my offer. His shocked look made me frown, “you don’t- “
“No, no let’s go!” Bokuto grabbed my hand and started to pull me out of the apartment. I laughed at how eggar he was. As always, Bokuto is being one of the only lights in my life.

Awaited Encounter~ part 7
A soft warmth wrapped around my legs and relaxed my body. I’ve never felt so calm in my life. It was so blissful… that’s how I knew something was wrong. My body was intoxicated with a familiar scent. That is what made me feel so warm and fluffy.
“You’re smiling like an idiot.” A voice stated with no emotion. The tone made me stiffen and my eyes open at a slow rate.
I was met with tinted copper eyes and the worst bed hair I have ever seen. Their glare made the comfort I felt leak out. “Who the hell are you?” I mumbled under my breath.
Now that my eyes are opened, I tried to take in my surroundings. First thing I noticed was that this was not my bed. Next, I noticed that these were not my clothes. More importantly, I do not have a roommate.
The man who has been glaring at me since my eyes cracked open, sat on a chair near a desk. He had on a red track jacket, a blank shirt, and black shorts. From his body structure I could tell he was athletic.
“I’m surpirsed you don’t know who I am. I know all about you.” The cocky tone the man used made my brow twitch. Why would I know who he is anyways? I don’t even know where I am! What happened last night… I can’t remember.
My eyes widened as the memories from yesterday flooded back to me. “Oh no… I kissed Bokuto.” My fingers rubbed my forehead, trying to keep my blush at bay.
“You say ‘oh no’ like you didn’t want to. From what I saw, you both were into it.” I scowled at the man, this time he was looking down and blowing at his nails. He looked bored.
“Alright who the hell are you?” I asked in the most irritated tone.
The raven-haired man leaned forward on his chair, “do you want Bokuto’s memories to come back?” My heart stopped from the statement. I could already feel a cold sweat form around my body. Who is this guy and how does he-
“From your face I’m guessing no.” I stayed still, frozen from fear and terror about the man’s words. “I’m sorry.” He sighed, closing his eyes and opening them again. “My name is Kuro Tetsurou, I am Bokuto’s roommate. You passed out after Bokuto kissed you and now you are… well um.”
The pieces in my mind fit together like an embarrassing puzzle. My face turned bright red as my shaky eyes looked down at my body. An oversized jersey laid over my frame, practically falling off my shoulders. In the corner of my eye, I could see another article of clothing. It was my pants.
Kuro’s vision followed mine, “oh, no we did not do that part. You must have taken them off while you were sleeping.”
My head began to feel light. My jittery hands tried to grab the shorts off the ground, but they were too far. If I bent anymore, the jersey would lift up. “C-can you help me?” I squeaked. Kuro only snickered, “nope! But I do have to have a serious talk with you so get flustered afterwards, ok?”
You have got to be kidding me. I nodded, not bothering to protest while Kuro talked.
“Now that Bokuto is around you, there is a good chance that he’ll start getting his memory back.” Kuro breathed out. I could tell the roommate was growing uneasy from the topic. It made me wonder why he was so on edge.
Bokuto did say he met Kuro the same year as his volleyball accident. Was Kuro there when it happened?
Kuro’s fingers gripped the top of the chair, “All I am asking you is… don’t tell him.”
A long silent pause shrouded the room, before I could speak, Kuro continued. “I doubt you want him to know what you did either.”
Fear pulsed through my veins as my eyes widened slowly, “how do-do you-“
“I was there when you left him. You know, he never stopped thinking you would come back.” Those words made a weight fall on my chest. Of course he never gave up hope, even after I abandoned him all those years ago.
Kuro spoke once again, “listen, I am not blaming you for what happened. All I know is that… everyone’s secrets and faults are locked away in his mind somewhere.” The roommates head tilted downwards. His fingers intertwined and squeezed together.
Kuro’s jaw tightened as his chest strained against the seat, “it’s not like we can be blamed right? We were just kids.” I knew his shaky words were more meant for him then me, but I needed them too. I left Bokuto all those years ago, and apparently Kuro mentioned others who have hurt him as well.
I don’t understand… why did anything bad happen to Bokuto? Heavy footsteps radiated from outside the room. Kuro tried to relax his body as much as possible before Bokuto came in. As soon as he did, I became more aware of the fact I was in his clothes and on his bed.
Bokuto came in the room, shirtless and sweaty. His naked back faced me, making my body heat up more. His back was decorated in perfectly made muscles. What is he? A Greek god?
Something even more intersting that I noticed was that Bokuto’s hair was down. The black roots stuck on the sweat glistening on Kou’s sculpted frame. I didn’t think Bokuto ever wore his hair down. He looks gorgeous…
“You should’ve came running with me Kuro!” Bokuto exclaimed. His roommate looked up and down at his body before sighing. “You should put on a shirt bro.”
I could see the back of Bokuto’s head tilt, “hey hey hey don’t tell me you’re getting intimidated. Your body is almost as good as mine Kuro don’t worry.” Bokuto picked up his arm, flexing a bit and making my mind feel hazy. No one can look that good! And I haven’t even seen the front of him yet!
Kuro’s eyes fell onto mine, his lips turning into a smirk. “Not for my sake, but I don’t think Akashi can take anymore fanservice.”
Swallowing hard, my eyes adjusted to Bokuto as he turned around. Light gray strings smeared against Kou’s pale skin. The front part of his body was just as chiseled as the back. “You’re up Akashi, did you sleep well?” Kou smiled.
The toothy grin and the jersey falling off my body made my heart beat faster. His stare and lack of clothing made my lower half twitch, causing me to bite my lip in frustration. I could still see Kuro’s snicker from the corner of my eye.
That is when I realized that the calming scent I was laying in was none other than Kou’s.
“M-o-morning.” My legs shifted, trying to fight a sensation swelling up inside me. “Can I-I please have my pants.” The squeal I made caused Kou to give me a weird look. “Akashi they are right beside you, can’t you ge- oh! Is my jersey too short on you? I thought it would fit you but then again you are smaller than me. I guess it’s good I slept on the couch then, since you strip in your sleep.” Bokuto chuckled.
“And drool.” Kuro added from behind, making the tips of my ears burn.
“J-u-jus-t give me my pants.” I reached out my hand, my other keeping the jersey down. Bokuto turned his head to Kuro, they both smirked at each other and nodded. “I rather watch you get it.”
My lips parted but no words came out. He’s such a tease!
With puffed cheeks, I scooted back on his bed and covered myself with his blanket. I couldn’t take anymore embarrassment! I didn’t think Bokuto could get worse when he is with Kuro. Plus… a smile fell on my lips as his scent graced my nose. He smells so good.
Bokuto’s laugh filled the room, “here Akashi, let me find you some shorts you can wear. I’ll wash these, ok?” I knew Kou wanted a response, but I was too flustered to speak.
“Akashi…” Bokuto pouted, his body inched closer to mine. I felt his upper half drape over my back, making me freeze. “Why aren’t you answering me? Are you that embarrassed? You know I put you in my jersey because I thought you would look cute in it.”
My face flushed more and stuffed farther into his pillow, “Kou just get me some pants, ok?” I felt Bokuto nod against my back before he got up and searched his dresser.
“Kuro, do you mind if Akashi spends the day with us? I want you two to get close!” A hand pressed against my back, “here you go Akashi. Can you keep my jersey on though?” I gave a faint nod and put on Kou’s shorts. I don’t know why Kou thought I would take off his jersey. I liked wearing his clothes… they felt nice. Plus I don’t have another shirt.
“Bokuto, you do know who’s coming over right?” Kuro’s words made my head peek out from under the covers. Kou sat on the edge of the bed, raising his eyebrow in confusion. “No?”
Kuro sighed, “your sisters.” Bokuto’s lips spread into a grin. His hair moved along with his head as he looked at me, “are you ok with that? If you want to leave, I understand.”
I shook my head and placed it on Kou’s shoulder, “it’s fine. If your sisters are anything like you, I think I’ll be ok. But… we need to talk later.” The last part came out as a whisper for only Bokuto to hear.
“About the kiss right? I’m sorry about that-“
“No…”I adjusted my body to Bokuto’s, making my arms wrap around him and my legs on his side. “I liked it Kou, that’s why I want to talk about it.”
A cough came from the man in front of us, “well I’m going to go.” Kuro stood up, which made Bokuto speak. “I thought you were staying… come on Kuro stay.”
Kuro looked to his best friend, then me. I kind of wanted Kuro to stay too, I probably relate to him more then I know. Judging from our last conversation.
“I’ll stay until your sisters come, maybe a little after. But I have to go to Kenma’s.” Kuro placed his hands in his pockets, his back leaning against the door. The raven-haired man looked exhausted.
Bokuto gave his best friend a smile, “ok that’s fine. But I do want to hang out more! You’ve been spending more time with Kenma then me!”
Kuro forced on a smile, “maybe I like him better. Anyways, I’m going to get some more sleep. Bro shower, Akashi, don’t join him.”
The comment made me blush while Bokuto only laughed. I stayed on the bed, gaining comfort in my situation as Bokuto headed towards the shower. I took this time to lay down and think.
So Kou does talk about me to other people, and Kuro knows about my past with Bokuto. From what it looks like… he doesn’t want Bokuto to regain his memories. Not yet anyways. If Kuro knows about me, does anyone else?
A sigh came from me as the doorbell rang. Next, I heard Kuro greet people while opening the door. That must be Kou’s sisters.
My body moved on its own, leaving me standing and facing the closed door. Wait. I took a look down my body, almost fainting from the sight. Kou’s shirt was barely staying on my shoulders and his shorts were hanging off my waist.
What will his sister’s say when they see this!? This is the first time I am meeting them… well-
The door opening made my breathing hitch. Kou walked into the room with a towel around his waist. “You’re still in here? Are you scared?” He asked me before closing his door with a brush in his hand.
My eyes drifted around his body, and once again I experience the same problem as before. An overwhelming sensation. “Put on some clothes Kou.” I stated in an embarrassed whisper.
Kou looked down at his half naked body, “you should get used to it, I’m never fully clothed in my own home.” With tinted cheeks, I pursed my lips. “Why would I get used to it?” Complete silence filled the air as Bokuto turned around and went for his dresser.
“N-nevermind. Do my clothes fit you well?”
“Yes, well kind of.” I said while sticking out my arms. I pulled up the jersey to make It cover more skin. While I was focused on that, Bokuto started to strip behind me.
Strong hands wrapped around my body as a naked chest settled on my back. Warm air brushed against my ears, “can we talk about the kiss now? You said you weren’t bothered by it.” My body stayed still, frozen from the growing addiction I have to his warmth.
“I did not… why did you do it?” My voice stayed strong while Bokuto’s hands rubbed up and down my waist. “It was on instinct, and the way you were looking at me. I could tell it was the right time. Was that your first?”
“I have never been interested in relationships.” Bokuto’s nose skimmed over the flesh of my neck. His breath clung to my flared skin. A deep chuckle came from him, “you could have just said yes. What are we Akashi? If you don’t have an answer to that, it is ok. I would never force you.”
That really contradicts your hands, I wanted to say but held it in. Rough fingers tickled the side of my hips, moving up along my body. The touch was agonizingly slow. “I… I don’t know yet. I’m sorry Bokuto, but I am sure that I like you. A-and I did like the kiss.”
His movement stopped. For a second I thought I said something wrong, but then Bokuto leaned forward. He placed more weight on my back and wrapped his arms around my abdomen. His head settled on my half bare shoulder with his hair brushing against my collarbone.
“Of course, it’s fine Akashi. I’ll wait as long as it takes, do you like this though? Am I allowed to show my affection?”
As always, he is understanding and caring. Bokuto is perfect for me. “Yes.”
With that simple word, Kou leaned closer to my face and pecked my cheek. He smiled at me before letting go of my body to finish changing.
“Be ready.” Bokuto said with his hand on his doorknob. I tilted my head, “what why?”
Kou didn’t answer, he only opened the door.
It happened in a flash, one moment Kou was standing up. The next he was pinned down on the ground with a figure hovering over him. The figure had pure black hair and a slim frame. “I expected more baby bro! We need to come by more often.”
From the voice I could tell the person was a girl. She fell down, taking a seat on Bokuto’s back. The gray-haired man grunted from the impact, his hands struggling in the woman’s grip. “I’ll get you next time Meg.” Bokuto said while turning his head.
His eyes landed on mine, “this is my second eldest sister.” The girl turned her head to me as well.
She had perfect golden eyes, a pointed nose, and short black locks. Her brows were thick like Bokuto’s but not arched. She was gorgeous.
“Megumin at your service! Meg for short! And you are…” She trailed off and scanned my body. My face flushed red, “oh no it’s not what it looks like.”
The black-haired woman’s cheeks puffed out. A laugh flew past her lips, “oh I didn’t think so. My little brother will be a virgin forever.” Bokuto gritted his teeth and tried moving his hands, “shut up Meg!”
The woman continued to laugh; she seems just as carefree as Kou. “I couldn’t have said it better myself Meggie.” Kuro snickered, giving a high five to the sister.
“You’re in the same boat as my brother Kuro, I would not be talking.” A more mature voice called out. There she was, the eldest of the family, Ai.
The woman was tall, taller than me. Her white hair ended a little past her back with golden earrings peeking through. Her white brows were arched, and her nose flattened a bit at the tip. Ai had her arms crossed over her chest, covering the mid-drift her crop-top exposed. Just like the rest of the family, she was stunning.
“Demon…” Kuro whispered under his breath. The eldest smiled at me with her arm stretching out to grab Kuro’s ear. “What was that? I thought I heard you cluck something rooster.” Ai threatened while Kuro hissed in pain.
“Nothing, nothing at all!” Kuro exclaimed, wincing at the pressure on his ear. Ai let go of the raven-haired man and Bokuto spoke, “these are my sisters. Ai and Meg.”
“Hey.” Ai waved with a sweet smile that Kuro struggled not to scoff at.
“Hey hey!” Meg cheered. She hopped off her brother and darted towards me, “what’s your name?”
I got nervous from how close she was to my face, “Akashi Keiji.”
Ai pulled her younger sister back; she could tell I was not one for close proximities. “It’s nice to meet you Akashi.” She bowed her head to me and whispered something I couldn’t quite make out. I wonder if the sisters remember me.
The two sisters caught up with their brother while I took a seat on the couch next to Kuro. I couldn’t help but stare at the beautiful family, I could never be that close to mine.
“Don’t forget what I told you.” I turned my head to face Kuro. He was rubbing his eyes while putting all his weight on the cushion behind him. “Kuro… I don’t think I can lie to him for that much longer. I-I know I left him-“
A long sigh from Kuro made me pause. The couch ruffled as the tall man stood up, “give me two weeks, three at the most. Right now, I need to clear my head.” I nodded to Kuro as he strolled across the room.
Third pov
Kuro joined the family only to say his goodbyes. Bokuto protested of course, but Kuro insisted that he should leave. “I’ll walk you out Kuro!” Meg offered.
Both walked outside and down the stairs of the apartment complex. “So that’s him huh? I haven’t heard the name Akashi in such a long time.” Meg hummed. She watched as Kuro winced from her words, getting memories he never wanted to revisit.
Meg stopped in front of the raven-haired man. She was two inches shorter than him, making her up to his forehead. “Meggie, I don’t want to talk about this.” Kuro tried pushing the small girl aside, but she wouldn’t budge.
“You need to talk about this, you haven’t talked about it in so long.” The woman’s words were soft, but her glare was stern. I should have left before the girls got here, Kuro thought still trying to push her away.
“Kuro-“
“Shut up Meggie I don’t want to!” Kuro snapped. His voice echoed through the halls of the complex, tears about to flood his eyes. Meg wrapped her arms around the taller man, “Kuro… I know, ok?”
A silence settled in the air. Kuro’s head fell on the girl’s, trying and failing to hold back his tears. “It’s not your fault…” Meg’s words only made Kuro crack more. He pulled the woman closer, stuffing his head in her chest.
She could feel the man’s tears through her shirt but said nothing. Meg only trailed her fingers through Kuro’s hair softly.
She hummed a small tune, knowing it would calm the male down. The sisters have known Kuro just as long as Bokuto. Meg is third in line for the people closest to him. Second being Kenma and first being Bokuto.
The two parted after a few minutes. Kuro whipped away his tears, “I’ll be going now Meggie.”
“Not without me.” She insisted once more.
“Meg-“
A jingle made Kuro’s eyes widen, “how can you go anywhere without your keys Kuro?” The sister shook the keys between her fingers. Her wide smile made Kuro sigh, “you are more of a pain then your brother.”
Meg chuckled, “where do you think he got his tricks?”
The two walked away, only one of them knowing that someone was watching the entire scene. Before Meg disappeared from view, she gave a thumbs up to the person above them. Ai shook her head with a sigh before entering Bokuto’s apartment again.
“Did you give Meg her wallet?” Bokuto asked, unknown to him that it was only an excuse to go outside. Ai smiled, “yes, now what’s been up with you.”
Ai took a seat next to Akashi, the question was directed to him. She noticed how tense the younger man was, “I’m guessing you’re not use to attention.” Akashi gave her a slow nod.
“Looks like somethings haven’t changed.” Ai watched as her words made Akashi’s eyes widen. She turned her head and leaned on the couch, “hey Kou, what’s with the kitten?”
Bokuto stayed in the kitchen, rambling about the small animal. Ai’s attention was split in half. She heard the story from Kuro yesterday.
“I’m guessing you remember me?” Ai asked in a whisper. Her head stayed in Bokuto’s direction, nodding to him once and a while.
“Yes, I didn’t think you would remember me.” Akashi replied in a low tone.
“How could I forget the anti-social kindergarten my little brother fell in love with.” The eldest sister didn’t have to turn her head to know Akashi blushed. She remembers Akashi’s personality quite well.
“I remember the first time I met you too, looks like you have changed a little.”
The conversation ended there. Bokuto joined the two on the couch and later Meg came home still with Kuro’s keys.
The four spent time together with the past never coming up in conversation. Akashi eased himself around the sisters, he knows they would never do anything to hurt him. He was only antsy about seeing them after so long.
Akashi Pov
Bokuto slouched in his chair, his face disgruntled. “Your cheating Ai admit it!” Ai waved her fake money in front of her face like a fan. The cocky smile she wore made a shiver shoot down my spine. Her and Kuro scare me.
“I am sorry baby brother, I have no clue what you are talking about.” She said in an innocent tone, even though everyone knows she was not innocent. Meg nodded along, “pay up Kou or you’re out!”
The eldest sister held out her hand with an evil aura. Bokuto fell back in his seat, looking down at the limited money he has. “Here Kou.” I placed a few bills in the gray-haired man’s hand.
His eyes lit up, “really Akashi? Thank you!”
I shook my head, “it’s not a big deal-“
“No! He can’t do that, there must be a fair trade.” Meg exclaimed with a pout. Ai shook her head in agreement.
I turned my head to the sisters, then to Kou, “I don’t want anything.” Bokuto smiled at me and placed a hand on my cheek. Next thing I knew, his lips were on mine for another innocent kiss.
Kou pulled my face closer, making the kiss harder and more profound.
“Hey that’s not fair!” Meg shouted.
“Yeah, seduction is not a good payment.” Ai mumbled.
Bokuto smiled into our kiss and pulled away, “doesn’t matter. Akashi loves my kisses!” I stayed quiet, not wanting to confirm or deny the claim.
Ai sighed, “whatever, I win regardless. You should take Akashi home, it’s late.” Bokuto agreed and stood up to get ready. I was still dressed in Bokuto’s clothes, except now I wore one of his jackets instead of his jersey.
I said my goodbyes to the family, but before I left the room Meg pulled my hand. “Why don’t you come to Bokuto’s practice match! He is having one against Kuro’s college team! You should come, we will be there.”
Meg jerked her thumb towards Ai, the eldest’s eyes stayed on mine. Bokuto’s hand fell on my shoulder, “you don’t have to Akashi.”
I turned my head towards Bokuto’s and placed my hand on his, “I can’t wait.”

Awaited Encounter~ Part 6
While eating lunch, me and Bokuto’s normal chatter started up again. Bokuto blabbed about the people he cared about, bringing out new names I have not heard of. “Who is Kenma?” I asked while packing up our left-over food in a takeout box.
Bokuto’s grin grew from the question, I could tell he took pride in his friends. I wonder if Bokuto ever rants about me to other people. Maybe Kuro has heard of me.
“Kenma is another one of my close friends, I met him through Kuro. He is very quiet and snippy. He can be fun though trust me! We both team up and mess with Kuro sometimes.” Bokuto stated as he stood up from his seat. He took my takeout boxes and stuffed them in a bag, “I can take these. Let’s walk around the park!”
“Ok, don’t swing the food around though Bokuto.” For some reason, Bokuto frowned from my words. “Did I say something wrong?” I questioned with a raised brow.
The gray-haired man only shook his head before walking out of the café. That’s strange, I don’t think I said anything insulting.
I sighed and followed Bokuto out the door. We both began walking towards the park at the end of the street. The skies were clear with only a light breeze whistling through the city. I looked over to Bokuto, but the volleyball player was still frowning.
I didn’t know whether to question it or not, so I tried to change the subject. “The weather looks nice.” Really? The weather looks nice? That is the best I could come up with? What great social skills I have.
“You know, I have never been this far down the street. I am not very familiar with the area since I lived a few towns over. Do you and Kuro come here?” I thought mentioning the best friend would ease the conversation along. Luckily, it did.
“Yeah, me and Kuro love this place! As kids we also lived a few towns over, but both of our colleges are the same distance away from our apartment. Just in different directions. When we were first years, we tried to explore as many places as we could. The Park was one of our main spots.” Bokuto said with a small smile.
His smile made a calming sensation wash over my body. “Have you came here with Kenma?”
Bokuto nodded, “yep! I have came here with him, Kuro, Oikawa and Iwaizumi. But you don’t know Oikawa and Iwaizumi. Actually…” Bokuto stopped walking and stood still. He rubbed his chin and scrunched his brows together.
“You’ve never met Kuro either…” I nodded as Bokuto continued to speak his thought process. “Do you want to?” Bokuto asked, his eyes trailing to mine.
In all honesty, I wanted to say no. Hanging out with more people might cause me anxiety. But at the same time, I doubt Bokuto would ever let me feel uncomfortable. “I’m ok with that.”
Bokuto struggled not to jump for joy, “this is great!”
“I am glad you are happy, Bokuto.”
Bokuto looked at me, then the ground. “Hey Akashi…?” I hummed at the change in atmosphere. Bokuto kept his eyes on the floor, his hands folding behind his back. It was weird, for the second time in the past hour Bokuto got quiet. Did I somehow insult him?
“Yes, Bokuto?” The gray-haired man shifted uncomfortably before speaking again. This time he did look at me. Golden eyes shimmered as they graced mine, “could… could you call me Kou?” Bokuto almost shouted with glowing cheeks.
I blinked, I blinked again, then again. “Wh-what?!” My shout echoed across the crowded park, no doubt drawing everyone’s attention. Bokuto bit his lip from my loud tone. More heat packed into his face, “I want you to call me Kou.”
“Wh-why?” I stuttered, not able to wrap my head around what was happening. Why would I ever try to embarrass myself like that again?!
I could see Bokuto’s Adams apple bob up and down as he stared into my endless blue eyes. His hands placed on my shoulders, bringing our bodies closer. My frame flinched from the contact, my legs feeling like they would give out on me at any second.
“A- I like when you call me that.” The statement was there, floating around in the air for all to hear. Dozens of eyes glued onto me, the attention made the air suffocating. I wanted to run. I wanted to run away and hide from everyone’s stares.
One hand fell off my shoulder and grabbed my hand. Bokuto began pulling me across the park, away from anything and everything. I wanted to thank him, but I couldn’t muster the words up. Once again Kou is protecting me from my own flaws.
We ran through the park until we reached and uncrowded area. I leaned over, trying to catch my breath from the sudden exercise. Bokuto’s hand gripped mine tighter.
Once I caught my breath, I swallowed. “You like it?”
“Yeah… I really do.” Bokuto’s fingers slowly tangled around mine. His touch made my heart race and my mind foggy. “Th-Then I will, Kou.” I didn’t think my face could get redder at this point.
A shiver shot down my spine when Kou ran his thumb over my shaking hand. His finger grazed my knuckles, causing my hairs on the back of my neck to stand up.
He’s so gentle with me. He pays more attention to me then I do. Kou why are you so perfect?
My thoughts were interrupted by a high-pitched squeal. Me and Kou turned to look at the small lump behind us. The black lump moved and hissed as it tumbled across the ground.
Kou’s hand slowly left mine, “what is that?” He asked with the tilt of his head. I went on my knees and carefully moved my face closer to the small mound. I was met with dark blue eyes and white ears.
“It’s a kitten…” I mumbled with my eyes glued to the cat. From the size of it, it must be less than five weeks old. The cat eyes twitched before it’s small paws lunged at my face.
Sharp small claws dug into my eyebrows in an instant. A painful hiss left me as the cat shrieked in horror. “A little help here?” I grumbled to the man behind me. Bokuto blinked a few times before attempting to remove the kitten from my face.
I rubbed my skin from the pain when the cat was off me. It laid in the palms of Bokuto’s hand cutely, as if it didn’t just try peeling my flesh off. I frowned at the animal, “Akashi don’t look at him like that.” Bokuto pouted, pulling the kitten closer.
“Animals hate me.” I bit back.
Bokuto chuckled at the statement before returning his attention to the kitten. “It looks like she is injured, we should take her to the vet.”
“I doubt that cat wants to be anywhere near me.” Bokuto ignored my statement and dragged me along across the park. The vet clinic was about a half hour away. On our way there I noticed how good Bokuto is with animals.
The small kitten snuggled against Bokuto’s warmth. She meowed once in a while to show her obvious pleasure.
“Akashi, don’t stare at baby owl like that.” Bokuto said, pulling the kitty closer to him.
“Baby… owl? Kou, that’s a cat.”
Bokuto pouted, “so? She likes the name.”
I rubbed my temple from Kou’s answer. A drop of blood smeared against my finger, “well that’s not good.” I whispered as I wiped the blood against my dark pants.
Cold air slammed against my face when Bokuto opened the door to the clinic. It was small like all the other buildings in the city but immaculate.
A woman turned her head when the doors clicked opened. She was small with short blonde hair and light green eyes. Her large eyes grew when she saw Bokuto and me enter in.
“Bokuto, we haven’t seen you in a while.” She greeted with a warm smile. Though that smile was only to Bokuto, a whole five seconds in the building and I already feel invisible.
“Hey Tina, is doc in today?” Bokuto said while flashing his charming smile. The girl shook her head and started talking to Bokuto about why the doctor was out. The woman didn’t look at me once, not that I cared. The only thing that bothered me was her obvious fascination with Bokuto.
Am I jealous?
“Akashi, come on.” Bokuto called. We both walked to the back of the clinic where normal check ups are held. Kou flipped on the lights and gestured for me to shut the door.
“Bokuto can we be back here?” I Inquired, taking a seat in the office.
“Yeah. I am close friends with the doctor here, well my sister is. I’ve been volunteering here since my middle school years.” Bokuto explained as he walked around the room. The gray-haired man grabbed a small metal tray and started placing items on it.
“I see, do you want to be a vet?” I got up to help Bokuto with the items. He directed me and told me what to take and how much of it while he held Baby Owl.
“When I retire as a volleyball player, I wouldn’t mind becoming one. My sisters say I need to get a degree now in case I get injured or something and can’t play anymore. You know, as a backup plan.”
I put the metal tray on the bench and Bokuto laid the kitten down beside it. “How about you Akashi, what do you want to be?”
“I don’t know.” I answered honestly. Bokuto stopped what he was doing and looked at me. I could see the shock written all over his face, “what?” I asked with pursed lips.
Kou smiled, “nothing, its just you seem like the type to plan your whole life out.” A patch of silence settled between us. Bokuto started examining the kitten and cleaning up her leg. It turns out, the right leg of the kitten was damaged with a deep cut.
“I might need you for this.” Bokuto grunted while trying to stop the kitten from moving. I peeked up from his words and looked towards his direction. “How steady are your hands?” The question made me squint. “Um very?”
I came to Bokuto’s side, he handed me a needle with a string tied to it. “I will hold the kitten down; I need you to stitch her up.” With a nod, we both started our rolls.
The pained cat struggled in Bokuto’s grip. He tried to be as gentle as possible while I poked through the small animal’s flesh. After a few minutes of unrivaled tension, I placed the needle down. “All done Baby Owl.” Bokuto whispered in her ear to sooth her.
With a soft meow, the cat crawled into Bokuto’s lap and fell asleep. “Well, that was nerve racking.” Bokuto sighed.
“Yeah well I don’t think we are done yet.” I mumbled while placing my fingers on my bloody forehead. Red liquid dripped down the bridge of my nose, coming from my eyebrow. The look on Bokuto’s face made my throat go dry, “it’s not that big of a deal.” I tried to reason.
“Akashi! Why didn’t you tell me you were hurt!” I winced from Bokuto’s loud tone. He pulled my body close to his, his orbs scanning my wound. My eyes focused on his worried expression. “Bo-“
“It’s pretty deep, I think stitches are necessary. We can go to a hospital, but I know you’ll protest.” One of Bokuto’s fingers tapped against the metal tray next to him. He started cleaning my wound, leaving very little space between us.
“Bok-“
“There will only need to be 6 stitches, 8 at the most. Do you think you can handle it?” Bokuto asked, his eyes flickering to mine. I gulped and nodded for him to continue.
Kou’s other hand moved my hand to his shoulder, his other picked up a clean needle. “Look squeeze my shoulder when it hurts ok?”
“Will you stop?”
“Probably not.” Bokuto answered with a small smirk. He picked up a new needle that has already been sterilized. My other hand gripped his side as he started to tie a piece of string to the needle. “So do I get a warning or- shit!”
My teeth clamped shut when the metal protruded my flesh. “Damn it… Bo-kuto… next time warn me.”
“I thought the sudden pain was a warning.” The gray-haired man answered simply.
A few minutes past before the poking stopped. My body felt weak after the pulses of pain subsided. My chest pressed against Bokuto’s hands, while my head laid on his. “All done baby Akashi.” Kou said in a mocking tone.
With little strength I placed my eyes on his and leaned back a little. “I’m not a kitten Bokuto.” Even with my exhausted tone, Bokuto smirk only grew. “You’re my Owl then.”
If I wasn’t so tired, I would have blushed from the comment, but instead I stared. I stared at Bokuto’s eyes, unable to suppress the neediness within them. “Bokuto-“
Even with crippling exhaustion, my whole body stiffened. They were barely touching me, but I could feel their warmth. Bokuto’s lips brushed against mine in the most delicate way possible. In all my wildest dreams I never thought my first kiss with Bokuto would be after a kitten tried taking my skin off. But, here we are.
Many sensations filled my body. It made my eyes grow heavy and soon enough I passed out.
Third pov
Bokuto’s hands steadied themselves from the sudden dead weight of Akashi’s body. “Maybe I shouldn’t have kissed him out of nowhere.” Bokuto smiled.
He carefully moved Akashi so that his body laid on the bench next to him. Bokuto then took out his phone and dialed Kuro’s number. It clicked when he picked up, “Kuro! My amazing, caring, and generous best friend. Have I mentioned you look stunning today?”
A sigh came from the other line, “you haven’t even seen me since this morning. All the other things you said were true though. Now what do you want?”
Bokuto let out a nervous chuckle, “well I need your help… moving something.”
Kuro didn’t want anymore details, he rather see the disaster at hand. Though, when he got there, he wished he heard the explanation. “There is a college boy… unconscious… next to you…”
The roommate said his words at a slow rate to try and comprehend them. Bokuto nodded along, not able to deny the situation he was in, “I only-“
“No no no! I do not want to know what you did to him.” Kuro raised his hands in the air as if he were surrendering.
“Kuro! I just kissed him; I didn’t do anything lewd!” Bokuto whined at his roommate. Kuro rubbed his temple while shaking his head, “Who is this?”
Bokuto turned to look at the tired boy, he’s so pretty when he’s sleeping. “This is Akashi.” Bokuto wasn’t able to see the slight horror that appeared on Kuro’s face from his words. “I see…” The raven-haired mumbled.
“Yes well I’ll tell you the story on the way.”
“On the- no! I am not helping you kidnap the poor guy too!” Kuro flared at his roommate. Bokuto turned his head towards him and pouted. The gray-haired man’s puppy eyes were turned up to the max, resembling the saddest thing known to man. A kicked puppy.
Kuro hated this look, he despised it with his entire being. He wanted to laugh at the kicked puppy and walk away! But he couldn’t… no one in their right mind could. Kuro sighed, “alright. Glad I didn’t take my bike here.”
Bokuto’s puppy eyes vanished. He smiled ear to ear, “great! Also, meet our new roommate!” Bokuto turned a little to show the small kitten on his lap. He knows that Kuro wouldn’t mind the new addition. Kuro has always had a sweet spot for cats.
“What’s her name?” The roommate asked in a soft tone while bending down to trace his finger around its fur. “Baby Owl.” Bokuto answered smugly.
Kuro’s brow twitched, “Bokuto… it’s a cat.”
“So? She likes it.” Bokuto stated, pressing his own finger on the kitten.
“Hello Chibi-chan.”
Bokuto frowned, “her name is baby owl.”
Kuro looked away from the small kitten, “I am calling her Chibi-chan.”
The gray-haired man snorted before he remembered something. It was about the headache he received earlier. “Hey Kuro?”
Walking towards the other side of the office, Kuro hummed. He picked up one of the spare cages and blankets so he could carry the kitten.
“I got this weird headache earlier.” Kuro froze in his spot, “and?”
Bokuto leaned against the wall behind him, “it was weird, it’s like I heard yelling? Some were whispers… but this one voice was so loud. It… I couldn’t understand it all that well because it was muffled but yeah. Do you think my memory is coming back?
It’s strange because the headache happened after Akashi told me something. He said Kou, you know my old nickname. My family calls me it often, and you do time to time. Maybe that’s what caused my headache? I don’t know.”
Kuro’s heart was beating so loud he was scared Bokuto could hear it. He tried his hardest not to look crippled by the sudden news. “Do you want to see a doctor about it?” Kuro asked while turning around. He didn’t give Bokuto any direct eye contact, but Bokuto was too focused on Akashi to notice.
“I’ll think about it, but for now…” Bokuto stopped speaking. His eyes looked down at the beauty sleeping beside him. He smiles down at Akashi before moving a piece of hair from his face. “I want to sleep.”
Kuro gripped his hand into a fist. His entire body shaking, “same.”

Awaited Encounter~ part 5
I kicked my legs in the air with my frail hands gripping onto the chains of the swing. A small smile graced my lips while I stared at the idiot in front of me. His booming laughter filled my ears as he ran in a straight line. “Kou, your shoes are untied.” I commented while the little boy dashed through the field.
The gray-haired boy ignored my words and continued to zoom around. It didn’t take long for him to trip and face plant onto the ground. “I told you.” I hopped off the swing and walked over to my best friend.
Bokuto picked up his head and looked at me as I took a seat beside him. The gray-haired boy giggled, causing me tilt my head in confusion. “What?” I asked before leaning my head back to look at the clear sky.
Small gushes of wind got caught in my hair, making my curls bounce in the breeze. The smell of fresh cut grass and mulch glided through the air. Along with your average kindergarten chatter.
“You always watch me.” Bokuto uttered. I looked down to meet his eyes, but instead I was met with his large smile. Bokuto’s toothy grin spread across his face, scrunching his slightly red nose. It was a marvelous sight.
My cheeks reddened as my dark orbs scanned his face. “You wouldn’t survive if I didn’t Kou.”
Bokuto only laughed, flipping over and landing on top of me. My arms supported my body to steady myself. Bokuto’s hair brushed against my chin as his hands wrapped around my back. His laugh only grew louder, which made me wonder what was so funny.
“You’re the best Keiji!” Bokuto exclaimed. Just when I was about to respond, Bokuto picked up his head and did something unexpected. Soft, small lips pressed against my uncovered forehead. My thoughts became hazed as my body became flustered.
Bokuto backed his head away and looked down at me, “my sisters do this to me all the time! They say it’s a way of showing you care about someone.”
I pressed two fingers on the spot Bokuto kissed. It still felt warm. “O-oh I see.”
Bokuto got off me and continued to waste his energy in the field. I sat there, watching him with a dorky smile I could not suppress. Kou cares about me.
“Look it’s him.” A voice from behind me uttered. From the soft tone I could tell it was a girl. “He’s so weird, I keep telling you we should stay away from him.”
I tilted my head to look who was behind me. I was not surprised to see two girls from our class a couple feet away. I didn’t remember their names. To me, everyone else in this school is irrelevant.
The girls turned their head towards me and jumped a little from my stare. One hid behind the other, whispering to herself. “H-hi Keiji!” Both girls said in unison. They both giggled as if I said something funny, but I only stared.
They walked closer to me, so I stood up to face them. One of the girls were taller than me while the other was an inch shorter. “Don’t call me that, call me Akashi.” I insisted with a monotonous tone.
Both girls grew more nervous from my voice. The one behind clung to the taller one in front. “Akashi then. Would you like to be friends?” The smaller one managed to push out. Her teeth dug into her bottom lip.
“No.” I responded simply.
The girls were taken back from my answer. Apparently being rejected was not something they were used to.
“Why? Don’t you want friends?” The one in front asked. She seemed to be the more courageous one of the two.
“I have friends.” Both girls looked at each other before looking back to me. “You mean the weird kid.”
This name is said often when it came to Bokuto. A lot of people find Bokuto’s mood swings and random boosts of energy to be weird. Which is why the nickname has stuck. The other kids shun Bokuto, but I don’t. And I never will.
“No, I mean Kou. I do not want to be your friend.” I stated with a tinge of disgust.
“But why!?” The shy girl in the back asked.
My answer came out without hesitation, “I find you both annoying and stuck-up people. I despise people like you. Don’t try talking to me again.” The girls were shocked by my blunt answer, but I meant it. Anyone that is mean to Kou will not be allowed in my life.
Both girls stepped back, one on the verge of tears and the other boiling in anger. “You’ll regret this!” The taller one stated before they both ran away.
I sighed at the meaningless threat and turned around. When I did, I got a face full of Kou. Kou was staring at me with wide eyes while biting his lip. “Keiji… do you think that way about me too?”
The question took me back. His expression made my heart buckle. “Kou…” The gray-haired boy closed his eyes, he looked like he was about to cry. So, I did the only thing I could do.
Pushing myself on my tippy toes, I squeezed my eyes shut. My lips tapped against his forehead, mimicking the action he did prior.
When my heels touched the ground, I opened one eye to see if Kou was still about to cry. The gray-haired boy had his large golden eyes open with tinted cheeks. His eyes sparkled as if he had just experienced a life changing moment.
“Does that answer your question?” I asked in a low whisper. Kou could only nod, keeping his awestruck look.
“Keiji… I-“
The loud beep of my alarm screeched in my ears. I groaned in displeasure before throwing my phone at my alarm. The sound of the device slamming against the floor made my shoulders relax. But then the beeping continued.
I stuffed my head in my pillow, annoyed from the fact I couldn’t finish my dream. It was one of my favorite memories of me and Bokuto. Back then I would always call him Kou, he did insist on it after all.
After a minute of constant beeping, I got up. First, I checked my phone to see if it was cracked; it wasn’t. The lock screen flashed before my eyes with several notifications from my mother. This was not surprising seeing that she obsesses over me.
My finger ran past my screen, not bothering to read any of her messages. I glanced at a new name that popped up on my phone. Bokuto. Me and Bokuto exchanged numbers the day the professor assigned me to him, though we have never texted.
Clicking the notification, my eyes squinted from the bright message in the dark themed chat.
Bokuto:
AKASHI LOOK LOOK LOOK
Akashi:
You haven’t sent anything yet.
Bokuto:
OH I FORGOT THAT PART
An image popped up on our near empty chat; It made me smile.
Akashi:
Congrats on your B Bokuto.
Bokuto:
I’M SO HAPPY! I TOLD KURO THAT I AM SMARTER THAN HIM NOW!
Akashi:
What did he say?
I sat my phone down and pulled out some clothes to change into. Once my dark blue, long sleeve settled on my shoulders, I picked my phone back up.
Bokuto:
HE TOLD ME I NEVER WOULD BE! CAN YOU BELIVE THAT?!
Akashi:
Yes I can, you’ll beat him one day Bokuto.
The texts never stopped. Today was my day off so I didn’t mind them. Like in real life, Bokuto led the conversation. He chatted about random things with unique emojis following behind. At some points you can catch me smiling from his words.
Bokuto:
Akashi, where do you live?
The question made my blink at my screen. Why would he want to know that?
Akashi:
Why?
This time Bokuto hesitated to type.
Bokuto:
I have a present for you…
And I have to deliver it personally.
Even though I was skeptical, I sent my address anyways.
We texted for another ten minutes before someone knocked on my door. I rose off my bed and walked to the front of my apartment. It was now the middle of the afternoon, what could Bokuto want to give me?
I pushed the wooden door open slowly, taking in the sight of the gray-haired man. Bokuto had on his signature grin, but he looked giddier than usual. “Thank you, Akashi!” Bokuto exclaimed before wrapping his strong arms around my frail torso.
The hug was tight and warm; it felt so familiar. “There is no need to thank me Bokuto.” I insisted, failing to hold back the ounce of happiness I was feeling. How could a hug feel so right?
Bokuto squeezed tighter as he stuffed his head between my neck and my shoulder. “Let me thank you. I don’t know why but being around you makes me feel nostalgic.” That statement slammed a weight on my chest. I was glad Bokuto couldn’t see my expression, I looked pained by his words.
Why am I doing this to him? Bokuto is such a nice person, he should never be lied to.
My recent dream came flashing through my mind, causing me to tug at Bokuto’s shirt subconsciously. The gray-haired man took this as a sign and released me. He stepped back and scratched the back of his neck with a nervous look. “Sorry Akashi, I forgot that you don’t like receiving attention from people.”
I looked down at the ground, my eyes trailing across the patterned wood. “Those rules don’t apply to you.” I mumbled under my breath. Silence floated in the air, causing an awkward tension to arise.
Bokuto stared at me, but I couldn’t see his expression. My gaze stayed tilted down, “you wanted to give me something?” I had to wait a couple moments before my words registered. Bokuto’s hands began fidgeting by his sides, “well you see. I couldn’t think of anything you like. Whenever we talk, I am the one doing most of the talking. I assume you like it that way?”
I kept my eyes down but nodded. “Good! Well, you know… Anyways I was thinking that we could go out for lunch. I at least know the kind of food you like since we ate together often during studying.” Bokuto stated shyly.
I nodded again and gestured for him to come inside. “I just need to get my wallet.”
Bokuto took a seat on my couch as I walked into my room. When I came out, he was waving something in his hand. “What’s this Akashi?” The gray-haired man asked with curious eyes.
“It’s a book Bokuto, have you not seen one before?” I took a seat on the couch next to him as he read the back cover. My best friend let out a hum when he was finished, “is this your favorite?” I lifted a brow at his question before nodding. “It’s a series called Witches and Wizards.”
“I never thought you would be into fantasy Akashi.” For some reason, Bokuto’s eyes lit up from his words.
“I don’t read it for the fantasy, though the world is interesting. I like the characters and the minor love story.”
“Oh, so you’re a romantic? That’s a shock.” Bokuto put the book on his lap, letting his eyes scan over it.
The room went quiet once again, only this time the silence was comfortable. Bokuto stayed staring at the book, as if he was taking in all the details he could. “It’s not that shocking.” I uttered in a low tone.
Bokuto picked up his head and started to chuckle, “yes it is. Anyways, let’s get going.” The gray-haired man sprung up from the couch and dragged me along outside. We walked together through the busy streets until we settled on a place to eat.
The café wasn’t fancy, I have never liked fancy areas. It was petite and quiet with dark red paint decorating the walls. Me and Bokuto took a seat in the corner on the cozy booths. “Are you ok with this place Akashi?”
It made me feel happy knowing Bokuto was always thinking about my feelings. It also made me guilty at the same time. Once again shame filled my stomach.
Back then I would never lie to Kou. I wouldn’t even dream of it. We were inseparable with him always making me happy and me making sure he stays happy.
“Akashi?”
My eyes blinked to adjust to Kou’s close face. His golden orbs laced over mine, causing a lump in my throat. “Nothing Kou it’s fine.” I squeezed out, not realizing my words till the last second. Blush spread across my face in moments, not just mine but Kou’s too.
I never thought Bokuto was capable of blushing, but here he is. Red faced and awestruck by the pet name. He’s so cute when he’s embarrassed.
My hands gripped my pants, struggling not to reach out a touch Bokuto’s flushed face. Why is that even an urge? Me and Bokuto haven’t had such a connection since we were young. Shouldn’t those feelings have faded by now?
The moment shattered when Bokuto’s eyes squeezed shut. The gray-haired man leaned back, clutching his head in pain from a sudden headache. “A-are you ok?” I stutter before reaching out to Bokuto.
Warm flesh brushed against my fingers, “Bokuto…” It seemed to calm him down. Bokuto’s hands slowly fell from his head as his eyes traveled towards me. I leaned down closer to him for my full hand to caress his cheek. “Are you ok, Bokuto?”
After what seemed like an eternity, Bokuto answered. “Yeah, I am ok, my head just started throbbing out of nowhere.” I sighed in relief before realizing the position I was in. Half my body leaned over the table that separated us. My hand was on Bokuto’s cheek, tilting his face upward to look at mine. Bokuto’s cheeks were still dusted with red while his face was inches away from mine.
“Hey Akashi, did I hear that right, or did you call me Kou?” Of course he would ask that question now. When my face is burning with embarrassment from the fact I want to lean closer towards him.
“Yes…” No use in lying about it. Another eternity of eye contact occurred. I tried to look anywhere but Bokuto’s eyes, but of course my gaze landed on something far worse. Bokuto’s lips.
I swallowed hard and tried to look back to his eyes. But it was too late, I was caught. Bokuto’s lips stretched into a smirk, making my face heat up more. I would have never guessed the ball of energy could make such a seductive expression.
“That’s very out of character for you Akashi.” Bokuto uttered as he leaned back away from my face. I leaned back as well, trying to collect my thoughts.
Looks like more things have changed about Bokuto then I thought.

Awaited Encounter~ part 4
Bokuto’s lips curled up to support the pencil he was trying to balance on them. My fingers gripped our textbook tightly, glaring at the childish college student. “Bokuto…” I mumbled with a tinge of annoyance.
Normally, his antics wouldn’t bother me but after several hours of studying, my emotions tend to get a bit loose. At this point all the words in the textbook looked the same. The sight made my head pulse, and my eyes burn.
Bokuto frowned at my tone, making the pencil fall from his lips. “Akashii! When am I going to use this in life!” The gray-haired boy complained. He leaned back in his chair, letting the tank top he wore stretch.
“Probably never.” I answered honestly. My eyes traveled across the table to where Bokuto sat. I tried not to stare at his exposed muscles now that he is wearing less clothing than usual. Maybe it wasn’t a good idea to have our study session at Bokuto’s apartment.
Kuro, Bokuto’s close friend and roommate, left us alone. I didn’t get to meet him; he was already gone by the time I arrived.
“Then why am I learning it!” Bokuto whined like a child. His head tilted back, showing more of his pale neck. My eyes wandered around Bokuto’s body with care. I took in as many features about him as possible before exhaling. “Let’s take a break.” I stated while closing the large textbook.
The sentence brought life to Bokuto. His head sprung back up and a grin grew on his lips. “Hey hey hey! How about some food? It’s late isn’t it, it’s almost 8.”
I watched as the energetic man bounced off his seat and headed towards the kitchen. His top moving with every step. I swear that shirt was made to take my attention.
The view of Bokuto’s broad back graced me as the tall man searched his cabinets. He has changed so much since those days. When we were kids, Bokuto was a little chubby with his round cheeks and baby fat. Looking back on it, he was adorable.
Now though, that has changed. I would not describe Bokuto’s appearance as adorable anymore. More like… mature and taunting…
“How about I make us something?” Bokuto suggested, taking ingredients out of his white fridge. Bokuto’s apartment is a lot cozier than mine. When you walk in, you are in the living room with a small kitchen attached. The floor is made of light brown wood and the walls are painted with a light beige.
You could tell when you first walk in that this was a boy’s apartment. There was no theme to the rooms from what I’ve seen so far. There was even random stuff on the floor. Like a wooden boat which Bokuto calls his ‘adventure time’. I can’t even begin to question that concept.
Even though the apartment was strange and messy, I couldn’t help but admire it. You could tell the people here made many good memories, unlike my apartment.
“You can cook?” I asked with the tilt of my head. Bokuto turned around and frowned, “why do you sound so surprised?”
“Because I am.” I answered before moving from the table to one of the reclining chairs. Another thing weird about this apartment was its organization. Their couch was not the center piece of furniture, it was moved to the side. In the center of the room stood two brown recline chairs.
“That’s mean Akashi! And don’t sit there, that’s Kuro’s. Sit in mine.” Bokuto gestured to the identical chair beside me. But they both look the same… why does it matter? I didn’t bother speaking my question out loud. Instead, I moved.
My back pushed against the soft cushion of the chair. It made me sigh subconsciously, “well we haven’t known each other for that long.” I said in a whisper. I couldn’t speak those words louder than that. Every time I think about me and Bokuto’s current situation, I grow an aching pain in my stomach.
It felt as if I was using him for my own benefit. So I would feel less anxious than usual. Bokuto calms my nerves without any effort. His warmth and presence are all it takes, maybe that’s why it’s so hard to let go of him again.
“Did you say something Akashi?” Bokuto questioned, turning his head towards me. My eyes looked up to meet his large smile, “no, nothing at all Bokuto.” I tried to give the man a smile, but my face stayed straight. Looks like the guilt from all those years ago is starting to take effect.
“Well, in order to make the thing I want to make, we need a few items.” Bokuto stated while walking towards me.
I sighed, “you don’t have to cook if you don’t want to-“
“I want to.” Bokuto interrupted. His bright eyes looked down at my dark ones. They held a sense of determination, which meant there was no use in trying to change his mind. “Would you like me to come with you?” My offer made those golden eyes sparkle. “Yes!”
Bokuto grabbed his jacket as we both left the apartment. My hands tucked into my dark jeans while Bokuto hummed to himself. It was silent except for Bokuto’s humming. The silence was calming and peaceful, it made me comfortable.
A bell jingled when Bokuto opened the front door to the convenience store. The store was bright with only a few other people crowded inside it. The girl at the cash-register looked up to see who came inside. Her eyes widened a bit when they met mine.
Why is she looking at me like that?-
“Akashi can you get some heavy cream? I can get everything else.” Bokuto’s voice shook my thoughts. I gave the gray-haired man a nod before walking around the store. Her eyes stayed on me with each step I took. The stare made me uneasy.
I don’t like people paying attention to me, it has always caused me anxiety. My breathing grew ragged as a lump formed in my throat. I turned the corner to hide in one of the empty isles. For some reason, that one stare made me panic.
Sliding down to the ground, I tried to calm myself. “It’s just one person, it’s just one person.” I whispered, gripping my forearm with closed eyes. An image from my past passed through my mind, making me bite my lip.
“Akashi?” Even with my eyes shut, I knew Bokuto was kneeling beside me. I kept my eyes closed while his golden orbs scanned my body. “Are you cold? Hurt? What’s wrong?” Bokuto asked as he placed his hand on my shoulder.
The touch made me flinch, “it’s nothing.” I squeezed out. Bokuto’s hand let go of my shoulder. I thought he was going to leave me alone, but I was wrong. The gray-haired man grunted as he took a seat next to me.
His shoulder pressed against mine, erasing any space between us. A sigh escaped his lips, “you don’t like attention.” The statement came as a shock to me. How did he know that? Has Bokuto been… observing me? He has only known me for two weeks, well that he knows of.
I peeked up to look at Bokuto. For once his face was neutral and his eyes were only focused on me. “Yes… I mean no? How did you know?” My voice was quiet for only Bokuto to hear.
“You give hints from time to time. Like when the teacher looks at you, you often squirm and look disgruntled in your seat. Or when we walk to school, when someone looks at you, you freeze up and hide behind me.” Bokuto started to chuckle at the thought. “You’re very adorable Akashi.”
My face warmed as my heart rate quickened. I didn’t try to say anything, knowing it would come out as slurred letters. Bokuto looked at my red face and gave me a small smile, “are you still nervous?”
“Did you only say that so I wouldn’t be?” I mumbled.
Bokuto’s grin grew, “nope.” He stood up and dusted off his pants. I watched as the gray-haired man stuck out his hand, “let’s go, Akashi.” His smile was as bright as the sun, I could never smile like that.
I took his hand and followed behind Bokuto. It has always been like this, me hiding behind Bokuto as if I was his shadow. When we were little, a lot of kids hated him for that reason. Bokuto didn’t make many friends because of his large presence. The other kids would say Bokuto hogs the spotlight. I never believed that to be true.
Being Bokuto’s shadow has never been easy. It means I have to help him stay in the spotlight. Whether it’s grades or motivation. When we were younger, Bokuto would often get discouraged and not want to try. I was the only person who could motivate him to try again.
Now, times have changed. Now Bokuto is motivating me to move, even as his shadow.
Bokuto put down his items in front of the female cashier. The woman tilted her head to look at me, noticing how I was hiding from her. “We would like to buy these.” Bokuto stated. He had on his normal smile, but his voice was lower than usual.
The woman snapped out of her thoughts and nodded to Bokuto. She scanned the food in front of her, taking a few glances at me as she did. I kept my eyes on the back of Bokuto’s head, “when did you learn how to cook?”
Bokuto tilted his face towards me, “well when I was young. My sisters made me, so it wasn’t my choice.” Bokuto laughed.
I almost forgot about Bokuto’s siblings. He as two older siblings, making Bokuto the baby of the family. Bokuto is the only man in the house since his father passed away when he was young.
“Can we talk about them during dinner?” I asked, keeping my focus on my long-lost best friend. Bokuto blinked a few times, “of course!”
The woman handed Bokuto two bags, “H-have a nice day!” The woman shouted as we left the store.
I sighed in relief once we left, which Bokuto picked up on. “You know she was only looking at you because she was interested in you, right?” His comment caught me off guard. My head shifted to meet his eyes, but Bokuto stayed looking ahead. His lips were pressed into a straight line as his golden eyes lingered on the stranger in front of him.
“W-what do you mean?” I question with a hint of nervousness.
“I mean you’re beautiful Akashi.” Bokuto tilted his head and looked at me. “And everyone knows it.”
The rest of the walk was silent. I was torn between blushing from Bokuto statement or over analyzing it. So, I did both in silence. My whole body felt so awkward, especially my face. It was warm and stung with embarrassment.
Everyone? What does he mean by everyone? I wasn’t aware of this! Does that mean… Bokuto think so too? Does Bokuto think I’m beautiful?
As a child I developed feelings for Bokuto, and I can tell that they were coming back. When we were younger, Bokuto felt the same way. It was adorable puppy love. But now, is different.
When we stepped inside the apartment, Bokuto began to cook. I watched as the man focused on what ingredients go where. He smiled at me when he realized I was staring, “My sisters love this dish. Though it is not the healthiest.” Bokuto said, making the plates.
He placed the bowl down in front of me. Steam rose in the air as the smell of fresh chicken filled my nose. The noodles looked creamy and well done, the sight almost made me drool. “Fettuccine Alfredo.” The words made my stomach growl as I uttered them.
Bokuto chuckled, “eat up!”
Both of us ate and Bokuto talked. He talked about both his sisters, Ai who is the eldest, and Megumin who is the second eldest. He talked about how scary Ai can be and how energetic Megumin can be. I have heard most of this information before, but I paid attention to every detail.
“Ai and Megumin have super important jobs!” Bokuto exclaimed with a proud grin.
“And what would those be?” I asked while putting my plates in the sink.
“Well they both work in law enforcement.” Bokuto answered. He trotted around his kitchen to put his dish away. I started washing the dishes as he continued. “They may or may not be in the FBI.”
“Oh, that’s interesting.”
“I said may not.”
“Yes, yes may not.” I nodded along.
“but they are!” Bokuto exclaimed. I could tell he is proud of his sisters and looks up to them. I found it cute.
After another half hour of talking, Bokuto walked me home. He talked more about his siblings, and I listened along. When we got to my apartment, Bokuto switched the subject. “I had fun Akashi, thank you for helping me study.” I wanted to mention that we didn’t do much studying, but Bokuto spoke again. “I know I can be a pain at times, and I don’t pay much attention.-“
“I had fun.” Bokuto froze from my words. He then grew wide eyed from my smile, “let’s do this again tomorrow, Bokuto.”
The gray-haired man stayed quiet and speechless. I bowed a bit before going inside my apartment and slowly closing the door.
Third pov
Bokuto walked back home, still slightly shocked from Akashi’s words. He had fun? Sometimes it’s hard to tell what Akashi is thinking and feeling. Often, Bokuto feels as if he annoys Akashi. But his smile, it was genuine.
It was not just Akashi’s words, but the rare smile that played on his lips when he said it. It made Bokuto freeze up without any warning.
He let the image dance around in his mind, making his own smile grow. When he walked into his apartment, he was greeted by a very familiar face. “Oh, hey Kuro.” Bokuto waved before placing his keys on the counter.
Kuro picked up his head with left over noodles hanging from his mouth. “Hey bro.” Kuro said, slurping up the noodles.
“How was Kenma’s?” Bokuto smirked, taking a seat in his reclining chair. Kuro rolled his eyes and continued eating his noodles. Once he swallowed, he spoke, “how was your date?”
Bokuto puffed out his cheeks, “it was not a date.” He claimed, crossing his arms over his chest. Once again Kuro rolled his eyes, “Kenma told me you’d say that.”
“What else did Kenma say to you?” Bokuto’s playful smirk appeared again as he patted his friend’s shoulder. Bokuto has been friends with Kuro since his first year of middle school. That is when his volleyball accident happened. “Nothing that concerns you.” Kuro bit back. He does not like where this conversation was going, so he switched the subject.
“What did you two do while I was gone? I hope nothing too messy.” Kuro observed the blush blooming on Bokuto’s cheeks with a smile. “Dirty minded as always.” The best friend shook his head in fake disappointment.
“I am not dirty minded! We just studied, maybe you should start.” Bokuto pouted.
Kuro put his hand over his heart and gasped, “I study!” Bokuto laughed at the statement, which made Kuro laugh as well. “So… what’s his name?” Kuro placed his plate on the ground and put all his attention on his best friend.
“His name is Akashi!” Bokuto said proudly. Kuro’s lips parted, but no words came out. His face stayed neutral as a lump formed in his throat. “How long have you known him?”
“A few weeks but we have grown close! He might take your spot as my best friend!” Bokuto laughed. Kuro didn’t laugh though, he looked away from Bokuto and gave a bitter smile. “Yeah well, you never know.”

Awaited Encounter~ part 3
I hope you enjoy!
//
Footsteps and small talk filled the streets as stores began to open. I was able to get through the first week of school alive, but now it's time to do it all over again. My plan was to ignore Bokuto, but it seems that he hasn't changed a bit since we were kids. He never stopped talking to me, even when the entire room was silent. Luckily, we were in the back, so the teacher didn't mind much.
I try not to engage in the one-sided conversations, but I can't help it. He always grabs my attention. But at least I can walk to and through the school without being bombarded by-
"Akashi!"
You gotta be kidding me... I need to stop thinking about him. He seems to appear every time I do! I kept walking, pretending that I couldn't hear him.
"Wait! Akashii...!" I could see the pout forming on the man's lips in the back of my mind. The image made me sigh as I turned around to face him. "Good morning Bokuto."
"Why didn't you stop the first time I called!" Bokuto said, smiling and bouncing towards me. He stopped in front of me, towering above me. Bokuto is only an inch or two taller than me, but he always seems to make me feel small. Not that I mind, he has made me feel this way since the first day I met him.
Somethings have changed though, like how broad his shoulders are. Bokuto also has packed on some muscle since our younger days. Sometimes I could see them better depending on the shirts he wears-
"You ok Akashi? You've been staring at my chest for the past minute." Bokuto waved his hand in front of my face, snapping me out of my thoughts as my cheeks became red. I swallowed hard before clearing my throat, "yes, yes I'm fine. Why are you here Bokuto? I've never seen you walk this way before."
Bokuto's smile faded and his brow scrunch. I knew this expression, it was his concentrating face. "Oh! My roommate refused to drop me off! Stupid rooster head!" Bokuto stuck out his tongue like a child before pouting.
I shook my head, "well you can come with me, let's go." I had to invite him; he would have followed me anyways. Bokuto grinned and stuffed his hands into his gray hoodie. We walked together down the streets until Bokuto randomly stopped in front of a store.
I turned around and glanced at him then store. "No, Bokuto we will be late for the train." I frowned.
"But Akashiii! Their donuts are so good!" One thing I've noticed about Bokuto is that when he gets sad his hair gets sad too. The parted locks began to droop down, as Bokuto's puppy eyes started to sparkle. I couldn't take it anymore.
"Fine, fine. Just stop making that face at me, ok? Did you bring any money?"
Bokuto sucked in his lips as he felt around his pockets. His eyes went soft as his hair grew depressed again. "I'll pay for you, stop with that face already." I said, rolling my eyes and opening the door to the small shop.
"You're the best Akashi!" Bokuto cheered.
"I'm aware." I mumbled with a sigh.
The shop was called Farm House. Their employees welcomed us in with smiles as we waited in line. I took out my phone to look at the time. "Oh Akashi! Let's take a photo!" Bokuto exclaimed.
"I don't think that's a good idea." I replied, closing my phone and turning to him.
"Why not?!"
"Bokuto, what about my face looks photogenic?" My tired eyes landed on his golden ones. As always, I looked exhausted. I do not sleep well. It's not because I can't sleep, it's because I do not want to. I rather study and get good grades, besides, I must be getting enough since I'm alive and stable.
The gray-haired man tilted his head, "you look great to me Akashi." I sighed and let him take a photo of us. In the photo, I looked like a half dead human being, but Bokuto seemed to love it. "Yay! My first photo with Akashi!" I didn't understand why he was so proud of the photo, but I let him enjoy it.
"Do you want it Akashi? Here give me your number." I stared down at the phone in Bokuto's hand, debating on if I should take it or not. In the end I did. When I handed the phone back to him, his eyes shimmered like treasure. The expression was so pure and innocent, I couldn't help but smile.
My eyes widen from the clicking sound that came after. "Wow I've never seen you smile before Akashi. I'm keeping this." I froze while Bokuto dragged me up to the front of the line. We ordered one donut to share since they were the size of my hand. "Bokuto, did you take a picture of me smiling?" I asked once we left the shop.
Bokuto looked up at me with whip cream on his nose, "yes." He answered simply before licking frosting off his lips. "Why? By the way there is food on your face." I watched as Bokuto attempted to lick the whip cream off his skin. I can't wrap my head around why he wanted a picture of me smiling. More importantly why did I smile?
"You're doing that weird thinking face again." Bokuto hummed with his tongue reaching for his nose.
"Like you're one to talk." I scoffed before taking a napkin and cleaning his face. Bokuto hummed in appreciation. "I took a picture because it was the first time I saw you smile. I thought I said that."
I scoffed again, "I smile often." Bokuto chuckled at the statement before taking out his phone and looking at the time. "We have a few minutes. It's almost 7:40"
My brow twitched, "Bokuto... the train leaves at 7:30." Bokuto squinted at his phone, "oh then we are late." I rubbed my temple at how calm he was about this. I shouldn't have listened to him, now we won't make it to class.
My thinking stopped when a hand grabbed my wrist and began to pull me. "Come on I have a short cut!" Bokuto cheered. I went along with him, wondering how off track my day could get.
When we stopped in the middle of an alley, that is when I began to question. "What is this plan of yours?"
Bokuto's eyes traveled around the alley before stopping at a rusted metal ladder. The ladder was folded and attached to the flat-roofed building. All buildings in this area have flat roofs because of their age. "Not a plan, a shortcut!" The gray-haired man corrected, pulling down the ladder with one hand.
Once the ladder hit the ground, I sighed, "there is no way I am going on that death trap. Do you hear me Bokuto? No way."
Bokuto tilted his head and looked at me, "come on Akashi! This will be fun! You go first so that on the slight chance you fall I can catch you." Slight chance? There is no slight chance, that thing would break if a feather fell on it. My disgruntled expression made Bokuto pout, "don't you trust me to catch you?"
"Yes." I replied without hesitation. Bokuto smiled from how quick I answered, making my face cringe as blush added to it. "Fine, fine. You will be paying for my hospital bill." I snorted.
I pulled at the sleeves of my shirt to make sure I didn't get tetanus. Then warned Bokuto to do the same. Once my feet hit the roof, I took a deep breath. "I told you." Bokuto smirked.
"I barely made it out alive." I whispered while unfolding my sleeves.
Bokuto huffed out his chest and put his back towards me. "Stupid Akashi."
"What's next?" I asked, ignoring the insult.
The gray-haired man pointed to the roof across, "now we jump." A gap of silence came after the statement. I knew he would say that, of course he would say that.
Bokuto and I jumped roof to roof, zig zagging around the city. It was fun, besides me almost falling a couple times. After the second time, Bokuto made sure to hold my hand. The action only made me more distracted, he feels so warm.
Wind smacked against both our faces, making my curled hair messier. Bokuto's hair stayed still as he laughed and skipped. He looked as carefree as always, even back then he was just as reckless.
"Isn't this fun Akashi!?" Bokuto chuckled while breathing in the fresh air. I nodded in agreement with a small smile.
When we made it to class, I felt Bokuto's warmth fade from my skin. I stared at my single hand, frowning subconsciously. "Akashi? Aren't you coming?" Bokuto asked, walking to our normal seats.
"Yes." I muttered back before following.
The lesson started as it always did, being the opposite of entertainment. Bokuto ended up falling asleep. I watched as he drooled from the corner of his mouth, arms crossed over his chest. Once again, a spark of innocence graced the noisy man's face.
"Ak- shm..." Bokuto mumbled. It's not the first time Bokuto talked in his sleep, but it was the first time he said my name. I listened in, tuning out the professor and their boring lecture. "Ak-a-sh... stupid." I'm what? I pursed my lips and squinted, "even in slumber he is childish."
I leaned my head on my hand and watched as the ball of energy slept. He looked so peaceful, so amusing, maybe even a little charming-
"Mr. Bokuto!"
Bokuto jerked his head up with wide eyes. "Akashi's stupid!" He shouted in his half drowsy state. My brow twitched as the class laughed. Bokuto looked around the room with his eyes stopping at me. "Oh, there you are Akashi!" He cheered. I rubbed my temple, "I've been here the whole time. You were-"
"Sleeping in my class!" The professor interrupted. I glared at the teacher, "I can finish my own sentences thank you." I whispered. Bokuto heard my statement and struggled not to laugh.
"Mr. Bokuto! We have an exam next week and all you have done for the past eight days is sleep! So, unless you want to fail, I propose you get a tutor! Maybe Akashi would be kind enough to deal with your lazy and apathetic attitude." The instructor gestured to me as if I was the victim in this entire situation. Which I was.
"Akashi would love to teach me! I am an amazing student!" Bokuto snorted.
"Bokuto, please don't lie to people it's not kind." I said with a straight face. Bokuto gasped, "I wasn't lying! Stupid Akashi." I sighed as Bokuto began to pout.
I then turned towards the teacher and bowed my head. "I will study with him going forward, I am sorry for interrupting your lecture."

Awaited Encounter part 2
Still in Akashi's point of view. I hope you enjoy
//
The ringing of the alarm made me twist and turn. The light blue sheets of my bed tangled around my bottom half. My eyes opened at a slow rate as my gaze settled on my alarm. Bright red numbers blinked as the small box vibrated on the nightstand.
Placing my hand on the electronic, I let out a groan. "Might as well get up."
I pushed my self up and hobbled out of my bed. The bright sun peered through my gray curtains. Inviting itself into my small apartment. First things first, I went into my kitchen and poured myself a cup of water.
The apartment has three rooms. A living room with a kitchen connected, a bathroom, and a bedroom. The pay isn't bad considering the spacey area. The only bad part is that it is a lot farther from my school than I would have liked. To make up for the distance, I take the train to class every morning starting today. Today is my first day of college.
I shook the bottle of pills in my hand and tapped some out. I placed the medicine on my tongue before washing them down with some water. Taking pills has been a part of my daily routine since I was young. At first it was a hassle, but I am used to it at this point.
My body leaned back against the marble countertop of my kitchen. The cold surface made me shiver as I glanced at the clock above. "I have half an hour."
Not wasting anymore time, I went to the bathroom and started to peel off my clothing. I then turned on the water for my shower and waited for it to heat up.
After my shower, I was left with curled wet hair and stinging eyes. I pressed my hand against my fogged mirror, wiping the residue off to see my reflection. My body is nothing special, slightly tanned and skinny. The only attractive feature that I have is my deep blue eyes. That and my curled black hair.
All and all I'm not very proud of my body. I am malnourished, exhausted, and the deep blue eyes I pride myself on don't even function properly. Walking out of my bathroom, I grabbed the towel around my waist and used it to dry my hair. Wet footprints smeared against the dark wood patterning the floor.
Once in my room I pulled out some clothes and got dressed. I ended up with a gray sweater and blue jeans that hung low on my thin waist. I need new clothes, that or I need to eat more.
I sighed at the thought and walked back into my kitchen. I put a piece of toast in the toaster, took out some jelly and smudged it on the bread when it was done.
My teeth gripped onto the bread as I prepared to leave. I placed my bag on my shoulder, slid my phone and wallet in my pocket, and left. The keys jingled in my hand when I shut and locked the door, "lets get this over with."
People crowded around the streets, all getting ready to start the day. I have never liked crowded spaces, but then again, I don't like people in general. I have only liked one person in my life, but they are gone.
The train was even more cramped, making me squirm in discomfort the whole way there. I checked my phone to make sure I was going the right way across campus. The school was like your average college, large and busy. Many students were making their own foot traffic across the campus.
It made me feel like an insignificant speck, which I loved.
I don't like attention. The fact that I can walk around without being so much as noticed made me pleased. My thin fingers pressed against the large wooden door of the auditorium. I was early so many seats were opened. I took a seat in the far-right corner of the room to make sure no one else would sit with me.
The lessons began with its usual painstakingly slow boredom. Most of the kids in this class were a year above me. I skipped a grade back in middle school, so I am used to the age difference. Not that it mattered. I will not be making any friends.
"Hey hey hey!"
My entire body froze from the voice. I turned my attention to the center of the classroom. There stood a gray and black-haired man leaning over and breathing heavily. "I... can't belive you started without me teach." The man panted.
My eyes grew wide from his voice, there was no mistaking it. Sure it sounded a little deeper... but... it has to be him.
"Mr. Bokuto, I knew you would cause a scene. The other teachers warned me about you." The professor scowled, pressing their hands on their hips.
The smile Bokuto made confirmed my suspicions. That and the teacher said his name.
"If you knew about me, why did you start the class? That's just mean teach!"
Laughter filled the room; most came from the girls in the class. The teacher sighed, "go sit over there, I don't want to see you anymore then I have to." My eyes widened as a sense of déjà vu washed over me.
No no no! This cannot be happening!
Bokuto bowed to the teacher before trotting towards me with a smile. He waved and nodded to other students in the room, showing his popularity. His reputation didn't surprise me, he was able to get a loner like me to open up.
I turned my head away not to face him, maybe I can ignore him this time. "looks like we will be desk-mates." Bokuto greeted. My face cringed as my body stiffened, looks like he hasn't changed a bit.
"Yeah sure." I blurted out, still not facing him. Bokuto leaned closer to me, "I have never seen you before. Are you new?"
Never seen me... wait what? I turned my head to look at him, making our faces inches apart. Once again, my eyes glued to his golden ones. The stare made my nerves flare. "You've never seen me before?" Bokuto tilted his head, not minding our close distance. "Well now that I see your whole face, you do look familiar, but nothing is ringing a bell."
That hurt. I never thought I would run into Bokuto again, but I didn't think he would forget about me. Was I not as important to him as I thought?
"Sorry but do I know you? I've had a pretty bad memory since an accident a while back."
The first thing I wanted to ask was if he was ok now. What accident could cause him to lose his memory? I have to admit, it makes me feel a little better knowing forgetting me wasn't intentional.
"No, no you don't know me." I lied, turning back to face the teacher. Him not remembering me makes things a lot easier. Now I don't have to relive the pain I caused him all those years ago. The day I left Bokuto and broke our friendship for good.

Part 1~ Awaited Encounter
15 years ago Akashi's pov
A larger hand gripped my smaller one, leading me down the crowded halls. My large eyes scanned the color coated walls with boredom. A sigh came from my thin lips as my gray boots squeaked against the pale red tile.
My mother walked through the school with a warm smile. She greeted others as she passed by, almost forgetting about my existence. "Are you ready Keiji? This is your first day of kindergarten! You're growing up so fast." I looked up to my mother and forced on a small smile.
If I knew turning five meant this, I would have never done it. But here I am, walking through my first school ever. Pre-school was easy, all I did was color and sing songs from time to time. The best part was that no other kids bothered me.
Even at my young age I have already decided to be a loner. It's not my choice, other kids just find my face scary looking. It might be because I never smiled, and I rather not force one.
Me and My mom stopped in front of the light green door. On the door were handmade flowers, one had my name. Many adults have told me I am very smart for my age, but it's not something I pay attention to. I am only in school to get by, that and there is nothing else to do.
My mom gripped the handle and opened the door at a slow rate. Cold air touched my face once the door was fully open. Taking a look inside, I could tell this teacher must love flowers. They decorated the walls and tables, as well as the ceiling.
Small children were accumulated at different desks, all looking for their names and assigned seats. The tall teacher greeted and welcomed us in. My mother and her talked while I walked around the room. Finding my seat was easy, I was in the back right corner of the room. "Nice and quiet." I blurted to myself.
Parents started to leave the area. Some hugged their kids, some cried, but me and my mom only waved to one another. I pulled at my chair and took a seat. The desk was separated into two, meaning I would have to share.
Hopefully my desk-mate would be quiet, and calm like me.
"Hey hey hey!"
My small body tensed from the loud sound before I turned and saw golden eyes staring down at me. The pair of eyes were mesmerizing and keen, I almost couldn't look away. The eyes belonged to a gray-haired boy who was tall for his age.
Chubby cheeks and arched brows came into my view as my gaze zoned out. The boy had two missing front teeth, but that didn't stop him from grinning. His faded black and gray hair was parted into two, making him look silly in a way.
"You said hey three times." I stated with a frown. Please tell me he isn't sitting next to me.
My head turned to look at the name on the desk. Bokuto Koutarou. While I read the name, the boy squinted at it with a confused look. "I don't think that's my name." He whispered with scrunched brows.
Relief washed over me, "so you're not Bokuto Koutarou."
"How do you know my name?!" The gray-haired kid jumped back with wide eyes. My eyebrow twitched in annoyance; don't tell me he can't read his own name. There is no way I can stay with this kid without my brain cells melting.
Bokuto balled his hands into small fists as if he were about to fight. "Are you a staker?"
This time I grew the confused look, "you mean a stalker?"
"SO YOU ARE ONE!" Bokuto exclaimed, stepping back farther. I winced from his loud tone, "do you have to be so loud?"
Bokuto put his hands down and walked closer to me. His golden eyes scanned me with concern, "are your ears ok?" His bigger hands touched my small ears, examining them as if he were a doctor. How could this kid go from hostile to caring in a split second?
"Yes, my ears are ok." I assured him. The satisfied look Bokuto grew made a knot form in my stomach. What is with this kid? Why is he so caring?
The gray-haired boy pulled out the chair next to me. He took a seat, swinging his legs in the air and practically bouncing out of his seat. "What's your name?" Bokuto's golden eyes landed on mine. His gaze showed his undivided attention.
His stare made me hesitate, "Akashi Keiji."
A large toothy grin grew on the kids face, "it's nice to meet you Agashiii!"
"It's Akashi." I corrected with pursed lips.
"That's what I said, Agashiii."
"You're still not saying it right."
Bokuto puffed out his cheeks and round tummy, "yes I am, your ears are blind."
I took a deep breath, "you mean deaf."
"huh?" Bokuto tilted his head in bewilderment. "Nothing." I sighed, waving it off and rubbing my temple.
Once the teacher started talking, I tried to tune Bokuto out. Let's just say it didn't work. The boy was full of energy and wouldn't STOP speaking. He rambled along, messing up words and definitions. "You mean allergic." I paused after the statement, realizing that I was actually paying attention to what the boy was saying.
"Thank you Agashiii!" Bokuto smiled before continuing. Eventually, I gave in and started giving Bokuto my full attention. It was weird, it was as if what the teacher was saying didn't matter anymore. All that mattered was Bokuto's terrible pronunciation and grammar.
Papers were passed around to each child. The assignment was simple, so I started it while Bokuto spoke. I passed crayons to him when he asked and spelled out Bokuto for him to write.
"Agashiii! Agashiii!" Bokuto exclaimed in his usual loud tone. I winced and applied more pressure to the crayon I was using, which Bokuto noticed. "sorry sorry Agashi." The gray-haired boy whispered. I shook off the loud noise and gestured for him to speak.
"Look Agashiii, I finished the assignment."
The paper slid across the light brown desk to my side. I stared at the paper shocked and confused. "Bokuto, you were supposed to draw something you find important. Why did you draw me?"
I looked up to meet the innocent eyes of my desk-mate. "Our friendship is important to me." He blurted out with no hesitation. I was taken back from his words, swallowing before looking back at the photo.
Bokuto was no artist, but that didn't stop the slight heat from rushing to my cheeks. I grabbed the closest crayon and started to sketch out Bokuto. His bright eyes watched every move I made. When I was done, I looked to the side while showing him my paper. "You're on mine." I stuttered with flushed cheeks.
The thin paper left my hand, "Agashiii..."
I swallowed again and turned to Bokuto.
"This looks nothing like me! You're not a good drawler." The gray-haired boy laughed, clutching his stomach and the paper. His laugh made me more embarrassed than I already was. "Sh-shut up! Give me it back Bokuto!"
Bokuto stopped laughing, his bottom lip pushed out and his eyes began to water. "but... but I want to keep it Agashiii."
Once again I began to blush. It was a rough drawing that took less then ten seconds to complete. Why would he care so much about it? "You can." I mumbled, which made Bokuto smile. He then handed me his paper and told me to keep it.
Looking down at the bad drawing, I couldn't help but smile. I made my first friend that day. It was the best day of my life.
