Hey guys, we're moving house! Orders are appreciated.
Pronoun Beads: Step By Step
Our pronoun beads are handmade with polymer clay, through a concept called clay canes. Canes are long pieces of clay with a design in the inside. You've seen this concept in action if you've ever made slice and bake cookies with a holiday design in them.
Tumblr media
One of the main concepts of canes is that they can be changed in size, and the design will remain the same, just growing or shrinking.
So, let's start with our "he" cane. I've actually already made it longer and skinnier than when it started; I just forgot to take pictures of that part. It's about half the cross section size, and double the thickness, of the original. Above it, you can see the cutters used to make the design, which might give you an idea of how much it's already shrunk.
Tumblr media
The letters look really weird, don't they? Don't worry! This is normal. The ends of the canes will be scrap clay, but we'll still get plenty of beads.
Once I get it a little longer, instead of pressing and pulling, I can flop it onto my acrylic board, and this will stretch it out.
Tumblr media
It's very fun, because you can do it pretty fast without doing anything to the design.
Tumblr media

The more we stretch the cane, the weirder the ends will look.
Tumblr media
When it gets too long to slap on the board, I cut it in half, and only work with one piece, letting the other stay at the larger size. This is an exciting part because it's very reaffirming to cut into the middle of the cane and see your design still totally okay in there.
Tumblr media
It worked! The design is safe and sound.
Now we keep this up until the cross section is much smaller. In my case, it needs to match with 6/0 seed beads, with are 4mm across. So I want a letter height of about 4-5mm.
Tumblr media
So tiny!
Then I'll let these canes rest. But just for the sake of this post, I'll cut a few, to show you what the beads will look like.
Tumblr media
And here's one chilling on a q-tip for scale.
Tumblr media
These tiny dudes will be made into charms and earrings, and I would love to hear what else you'd like to see them in!
Here are some finished charms!

Eldritch Mauve is my favorite, but Shojo Salmon is a REALLY close runner up.

[Knitting Socks in the Apocalypse Noises]
Hey all, I'm back to working on stuff for this blog/shop, because it's something I can do with both hands instead of doomscrolling. I wanted to show you a new flag that I coined last year and never got to put into any projects, omniromantic.
Tumblr media
It's based on the omnisexual flag and initially, it was a really pretty color combo that I knew looked like *something* but couldn't quite place. The similar colors and the lack of an existing flag just happened to line up.
I want to do more posts with stuff that I've coined and hope that's okay! I was trying to fill in some gaps that, to me, seemed like they'd be nice to have a word for. Let me know what you think.

Today I'm going to try to start putting more content on this blog. Nothing much today, but I hope to eventually do some actual step by step posts. I wanted to talk about the pronoun pins that are new to the shop!
Tumblr media
these.
I wanted to show you how they got here! Because initially they looked like this:
Tumblr media
I did put these up in the shop and they did okay, but I really wanted a non plastic version that matched better with the beads. Now, 6/0 seed beads are tiny, about 4mm diameter. There's no such letter bead in existence. Trust me, I looked. There are, infuriatingly, a lot of 4mm *thick* beads with 7mm diameter. There are also 5mm cubes, which I do have on hand, but never actually used.
I used to do polymer clay as a kid, so I got back into it to make these pronoun beads. They're made as canes, just like the fruit slices you see in slime, but with words instead of pictures. You make the design at a larger size, and then gradually stretch out the sides and make it smaller. When you cut into it, the design has shrunk, but is mostly the same, in the cross section. You can see the big original size of the "E" cane below and the small ends of some others.
Tumblr media
Here you can see the first batch I ever made! I gradually refined the process and invested in some letter cutters, which is why the "xe" pins look so much more polished. They're my latest work.
Anyway, I'm really happy with them, and want to keep getting better!

Okay, rebranding finished! So why the change?
1. There's actually already a "true colors" brand of pride stuff, True Pride Colors, and I want to avoid any mixups. I didn't realize they were a thing until I noticed their stuff on etsy. They seem really awesome, highly recommend!
2. This was the more unique name that I chose for shopify, which I eventually hope to get updated as well, and wanted them to match.
3. The redbud is the state flower of my home state, Oklahoma. As a state, our track record with lgbt+ rights and support is... not fantastic. So I want to make it obvious: even though it might be hard to find, there's love, infinite love, here, for everyone.
Anyway, glad to have everything reset, and I hope this post helps with any confusion.

Subtle Pride Charms
These charms are a single strand of beads in pride flag colors, recognizable but not obvious. They're great for situations where you might not want a pin or button, but still want to have something showing your support. Very demure, very mindful. They also have loops on the top, so they can easily be added to a keychain or charm bracelet.
Tumblr media
I just added pronoun pins and am so proud of them! These have a single small bead with your pronoun on it, and we're expanding that selection soon as well! The pronoun bead is handmade by me from polymer clay, so each one is unique.
Tumblr media
Take a look at the shop-- I almost definitely have your flag, and if it's not there yet, I take commissions!
