how did you learn to draw? im a beginner and am wondering
Tldr: Copying, tracing, copying
The original way I learned to draw was by trying to copy covers of the +Anima manga, and then getting my older sister to teach me a bit too. A lot of people don’t mention this because it’s taboo or whatever but seriously? The best way to learn to draw is to trace and copy. I’m not saying copy someone and post it, I’m saying keep your own private notebook where you trace and copy art (any art- the mona lisa or art by a creator you like).
Then, your hand will get used to the process and how to form shapes. Eventually, you can trust yourself to draw something you traced from muscle memory alone. Then move to just solely doing copying. When you get used to that, you can get better at using references (because you’ve been practicing copying! I use references by frankenstein-ing like 10 pictures together)
Then of course, there’s practicing and learning. Go take some community art classes! Go on sketch websites and do a few timed poses! Follow a youtube tutorial (when I was first learning gouache, I followed someone do a step by step painting, then I knew how to control the medium a little better)
Find artists whose style you like and do a style study! (I have a page in my hs sketchbook thats categories of eyes, noses, mouths, ears, and hands from different shows and creators i liked. Then i made different characters by mix-and-matching the categories and tried to develop my own style)
From there you just gotta trust yourself to make your own art. Maybe you saw some art of a fox in the woods. And you like i like that! But what if the fox was underwater?? And instead of a fox it was a giant kingfisher. And everything is neon. Or you want to draw a sheep in a field and like the way the fox artist used color and line work. So copy that, and put it on a sheep instead.
Trust yourself and trust the process!! I was tracing art from about age 9-11/12, then copying until about 14 or 15, and then I trusted that I could work on my own art (even then my art during then was mostly imitating other artists’ styles with my own subjects). Even now, I have a bunch of art saved with cool coloring techniques I want to try.
My last thing: don’t be afraid to copy, dont be afraid to use references. It’s not cheating, and it wont make you a “fake” artist-especially if youre learning. Good luck!

You’ve read the IT book right, so I don’t know if you remember Edward Corcoran(one of the missing kids)(the main protagonist of the beginning of chapter 6)(one of the missing:a tale from the summer of ‘58) he’s one of most tragic stories of the story and also one of my favorites. So if you remember him I would love too know:)
Hey-o!
Yes I do remember Eddie Corcoran, though tbh I don’t remember all the full details of his story ^^’ I remember that he and his brother were being abused by their dad and so when Ed got eaten by Pennywise everyone blamed the dad for killing him. But that’s all I remember! I do recall that there were some moments between the brothers, and also some emotional moment with the dad (maybe.?)
If you’d like to info dump about it, that’d be cool! It’s been a really long time since I’ve read the book all the way through!

didnt mean to include bev in all of these but thats just how the cookie crumbles. some forms of It! i just didnt wanna draw the clown. and i think bev’s experiences of its forms r the most compelling. The blood! fear of sex! fear of puberty! fear of maturity! fear of your father! The leeches! (for patrick) fear of oblivion! of nonexistence! idk what the teenage werewolf represents. teenagers are just scary
