Expedition 33 is an absolutely amazing piece of art. The only problem with it is the writing in Act III. The end of Act II has Alicia implore Verso to find a new path forward, but the choices you are presented with at the end of the game are just ‘choose what Aline or Renoir wanted’. It’s sadcore Square Enix (FF10, FF16, Kingdom Hearts, etc.) simply for the sake of being sadcore.

It would have made more sense to free Verso from the painting and for Maelle to make it her own, with all the characters still there. After all, Belle Époque is a period of art defined by its optimism, excitement, and positivity.

so this is actually a completely legit team comp and level cap you can have in Alola before you even face your 1st Grand Trial. Alola might just be cracked.

I finally did it. I beat base Elden Ring and the DLC as a pure Astrologer. I absolutely love this game and the stories it tells, even the sad ones. Now if you’ll excuse me, I have Ranni supremacy to go spread.

I am… cautiously pessimistic about Legends: Z-A. The idea it’s set in one big city is pretty awful, especially when it’s just one big circle. GameFreak needs to start getting over the love of “circle world with thing in the centre” because it has worn thin already. Also likely that we’re not getting the Gym Leaders, E4, and Diantha with upgraded teams and movesets, which along with Zygarde is what Gen 6 was missing. The biggest strength of Kalos was its great scenery, diverse biomes, and wide choice of party members. The environment is what made the games fun and enjoyable (except the badlands). It looks like this will be reduced.

Maybe they can pull it off. Maybe they can make a great game with just one city, but judging by the current state of GameFreak I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s another minimal effort game pushed out too early and never fully realised. I really love Kalos, and I really want it to get the treatment it deserves, but I just don’t see it happening.

Playing BG3 as a sorcerer with Gale in the party is hilarious because firstly he totally ignores your magic. Then he belittles it and you when he sees you’re capable. He then gives you a little complement and lets you a little close. And then at the tiefling party he wants you to ride him into the literal celestial heaven.

No thoughts, just spawn Astarion watching the sunrise with elderly dying Tav as they spend their last few mortal moments together.

Extremely hot take but Mystra kind of seems reasonable? Like, telling Gale to go kill himself is obviously not great, but look at the events from her perspective. Her boyfriend tried to control a magic that nearly killed her and raised a madman to Godhood. She sends him away with a bomb in his chest because she knows he wouldn’t endanger anyone else and he needs to be punished for his hubris (rather Greek of her). She finds out that the Dead Three can only wield the Absolute power with the Crown of Karsus, and that can be destroyed. She reaches out to him when he’s tempted to rise above his abilities and fall into the same madness and hubris she saw in Karsus and she offers to forgive him and heal the bomb, all the while directly feeding it her Weave. Remember she tells Gale to blow himself up because 1) she thinks that will solve the problem (it won’t) and 2) she will forgive him and not send him to languish on the Fugue Plane, which she sees as worse than a quick death. She also can’t directly become involved because of Ao, and she knows Gale is her most potent offence. Plus when Gale realises that the Crown shouldn’t be in mortal hands, he gives it to her and she heals him and fully restores him, including his good standing amongst wizards.

I finally finished BG3 after completing every quest I could and now I just want to cry.

Astarion is happy with my Tav.

Karlach and Wyll are kicking ass in Avernus.

Shadowheart has renovated a cottage for her and her parents to live in.

Lae’zel is killing Vlaakith.

Gale is teaching students at an academy and is free of the orb.

Halsin is helping raise orphans and calls himself ‘Daddy Halsin’ (fair).

Jaheira and Minsc are rebuilding the city and ‘helping’ the guild.

Withers gets to scold his successors.

They’re all happy, and I couldn’t be happier for them.

After going back and playing through Bayo 2, it amazes me just how sad, depressing, nihilistic, dull, and lifeless Bayo 3 is. Bayo 2 pops with blue, black, white, and gold; while Bayo 3 just feels grey. Which is a shame, because there's some really great mechanics and the shell of a great story in competent hands.
