james who disappears late at night, taking the map and invisibility cloak with him. he makes sure to close the door quietly, wincing when it creaks. sirius stirs in her sleep, panging him with guilt.

but he knows he can't stop.

he finds his way to the astronomy tower time and time again, his muscles aching, mind ridden with stress.

regulus pushes him against the cold stone walls, scolding him for his recent escapades against his slytherin classmates. he knows he's a bad person. he's in too deep to walk away.

regulus sees him for what he is. when he's with him he doesn't need to pretend. they can be bad people together.

james tries to ignore the stares he receives in the quidditch locker rooms. the whispers that follow him. he runs his hand along his collarbone, feeling the indents of regulus' teeth. feeling the physical manifestation of all he's doing wrong. sirius stares at it while they change into their uniforms, eyes narrowed.

"you haven't told me about who you're seeing yet, prongs," she speaks quietly, like she's trying to avoid the inevitable confrontation.

james only swallows, unable to reply. he continues in this cycle, guilty during the day and a sinner at night. he'll keep going, he'll answer when he dies.
