Cloudward ho, on top of being SO fucking good, is also THE most mysterious mystery season to ever mystery on dimension 20. You can tell Brennan is aware that his players and by extension the audience have become more advanced in the kind of stories they can handle. Absolutely not saying that previous seasons didn't have mystery, of course they did, but this season really challenges you to accept being kept in the dark in a lot of ways. To allow real uncertainty into your story experience. Other seasons have tended to take place at the Start of the story, with anything that took place Before the events of the season being background information that can be important (eg in crown of candy) but usually, it functions more like: you know everything about the world, except! [Mysteries of the season] In cloudward ho? You have to piece together reality alongside the characters. You nothing! It's a treat when you DO know something. It took until episode EIGHT to find out the SHAPE OF THE WORLD. Everytime I think I know basic information, such as "Comfrey MacLeod is a scientist and explorer who got to Zood maximum ten years ago" Brennan says shit like "there's a thousand year old statue of her underneath the ocean"
