I’ll be your friendly neighborhood monster-maker at Eastern State Penitentiary’s Terror Behind the Walls this season. Come on down and get scared - it is TERROR TIME FRIENDS!
We open this Friday and are a full Haunt in a real haunted prison, and we have a few tricks up our sleeves  - even if you’ve been, you’ve never been a part of what’s going on this year.

Follow this link to a brief backers-only briefing on building a beast; including some of my materials, a sketch, and some potential wolfy models.
I’ve got a couple of test run makeup appointments this week; I’ll be adding onto the presentation (and maybe adding some behind-the-scenes stuff!)

In Their Own Worlds will photograph authors in the worlds of their novels.
Guys we have funded our base shoot, but I would really love to work on some werewolf makeup, and zombies are always a good time.
Our first shoot funded is for Chuck Wendig’s ‘Heartland’ Trilogy (so far ‘Under the Empyrean Sky’ which I am reading and loving and ‘Blightborn’); I’ll be constructing an awesome prosthetic and potentially some gross boils and blisters in a corn field. I know, it sounds fantastic.
If you want to see PJ Schnyder In Her Own World of ‘Bite Me’ (and you know you do, if only for the sexy werewolves!) please consider a pledge that will also give you some badassed swag.

Hello everyone! I am sharing this Kickstarter for an AWESOME project that I am so happy to be a part of; I'll be working with J.r. Blackwell and a team of like-minded heroes to create images of lovely authors set in the worlds they invent. I'll be doing badassed sfx-ery on most of the authors and/or the people in their worlds, and let me tell you it will be an adventure in and of itself.
If you can't pledge, please share! I really want this to kick off.

I woke up at 4am two mornings after being strong-arm mugged to become a super hero named Honey Strike so I could keep Comrade Cockroach from stealing moneybags.
Sometimes you can’t make up dramatic irony the way life decides it’s going to.
These are from the first batch of ‘In Their Own Worlds’ photo project, more info to come.

I am going to be working with JR Blackwell on a really awesome, really intense, and really book-nerdy project called ‘In Their Own Worlds’; stay tuned for Kickstarter details, and maybe some sneak peeks!

Buckets of the Stuff
Alright, the moment you've all been waiting for:
Sara's 'Sanguinade' recipe.
This is a recipe for fake blood that is sticky and viscous, photographs AWESOMELY, can stain if it isn't cleaned up, and is edible and delicious.
3 packages cherry or strawberry (red) jello
1 bottle strawberry ice cream syrup.
3 tbsp chocolate syrup
1 tbsp peanut butter (if there's an allergy problem, substitute with more corn starch, but note the oils in the peanut butter will help keep it from staining skin)
~1 tbsp corn starch (to help with opacity)
2 cups unsweetened brewed tea (flavor is unimportant as long as it is a strong brown in color)
1 drop green food coloring
Red food coloring until it reaches desired brightness.
Additional water, corn starch, and chocolate syrup can be added to adjust consistency and opacity.
In a warm saucepan, melt the peanut butter (if using). Watch that it doesn't burn. It might. Watch it.
Add the tea, then jello powder. Dissolve. Stir consistently to keep the peanut butter and/or jello from globbing up.
Protip: when adding the corn starch, first mix it in a cup with warm water, then add it to your blood. Just like in cooking, this will keep it from clumping.
Add the rest of ingredients until it reaches desired consistency and color. Use blue, yellow, and/or green dyes in moderation.
Protip: add some of the ingredients listed. Add something extra. Experiment, test, and play around with this recipe! This is what I like to use, but I definitely make blood with whatever I have on hand when I need to.
Keep it in a jug or pitcher in the refrigerator. I always have one. It freaks out your houseguests.
Pull it out early on the day of the shoot to check consistency. Has it set like jello? DON'T PANIC. Put it back in the pan and reheat, adding 1/4 cup or so of water. It'll fix it right up (and warm it again so it doesn't freeze your skin).
As stated, THIS CAN STAIN. Food dye stains. But it looks great in photoshoots because of the brightness. I have an additional recipe for a much less stainy stageblood that will go up soon as well. (Spoiler alert: it involves soap.)
Have fun!

(And thanks millions, JR!)

My lady friends Deva, Sara and Xand taking a break to play during our wigs photoshoot last week. Clearly, we like to party. Photoshoot party. This involves bright lights and the photographer collapsing into a puddle at the end of five hours on her feet.
Sometimes I party pretty hard.

I just bought a new version of photoshop. I had been laboring with an older version the past couple years. However, I want to do more composites and more fantasy/horror photography, so upgrading photoshop was important. I hope you all like monsters, heroes and weirdness, because that’s what I’m planning for this year.
I made this composite as I was playing with all the controls to make sure everything is where I expect it to be. It’s not so different from the version I had previously purchased, so it was easy to adjust.
The model in this photo is Sara Gates, who helped me take ghost photos this fall. Thanks Sara!

Reblogging for Sixpencee's Halloween Special!
I am the girly model and did the lion man's make up. :)

Sara modeled for me in a wig/cosplay photoshoot before Danger’s Untold. I asked her to model for me for that shoot because of her enthusiasm for costumes and photoshoots.
I asked her to model for me in Danger’s Untold, because she is a fantastic model. She photographs beautifully, takes direction well, is enthusiastic and excited for the shoot, and has an expressive, sweet face. I couldn’t be more pleased with the results.

Hey look my face some more!
(makeup by me! yay!)
Tumblr media
For the first Danger’s Untold photoshoot, I was making my models do dramatic expressions. The big feelings - I love you! I hate you! There is a monster over there!
For the second shoot, I was thinking about some other expressions I could give these characters and so we came up with this: pouting and annoyance!
Obviously words have been spoken here. Someone is being selfish, and someone else is being obstinate, and WHY WON’T YOU LISTEN? Argh!
This is one of the things that makes photoshoots fun.
