What is happening on AO3?

Now there is nothing wrong with AO3 itself, in fact I find it to be very pleasant, easy to use and not very prone to crashing without some extreme circumstances. In fact, congrats on reaching the bookmark limit AO3!!!

What I'm actually having issues with will be below, and might contain uncomfortable topics for you.

It's the content and boldness of certain authors that I am astounded by. Now we are probably all victims of not checking tags, but these days I'm noticing authors just aren't tagging appropriately at all! There will be severe themes of Ab/se S/A, ect, NSFW and even taboo things like Pdf, extreme gore and Ince/t. Now, I understand that one can't limit people and what they choose to write, sometimes this content is used as ways to process lived experiences. Sometimes, it's a mental study.

But there is no denying that these are topics to not treat lightly, and none of them are morally right. To treat them like one might forget to tag a headcannon, or kiss scene, is not right. If you do this, you cannot argue that you didn't tag to increase engagement, because that means you are knowingly exposing people to graphic content without them expecting it. Anyone can click out of the fic, yes, but they would have never clicked on it if it was tagged correctly, to filter out correctly.

It's also the attitude towards the topics that are worrying me. Some treat them as they should, devastating, serious, life altering. Illegal. Disgusting. You get the gist. Others I see are clearly promoting certain behaviours, romanticising it to an unhealthy degree. This isn't "haha Jeff the killer is my bf we kill people" stuff, I'm talking there are authors genuinely attracted to the ideas they write and arguing for them in the comments/author's notes.

Blows my mind.

I wish there was a way for me to appropriately add tags to fics that lack them, to stop people from getting away from this. Or a note, or something, that doesn't require me bookmarking/endorsing the content.

Sorry for my rant, but I literally can't with all these fics.
