In nine days it will be three months since my mom passed and life has found a new kind of normal. It doesn't feel unreal anymore. I know I'm not going to wake up one day and find out her illness and that night in the hospital room with her was just a dream. I know that my life is continuing to move forward and so far it's doing so in a positive direction.

This month also marks a month and some change at my job. Ten pounds I've dropped bringing me closer to my health goals. And three months of a thing with a not-quite-boyfriend who was a friend first for twelve years. I'm seeing my younger brother begin college as a member of the marine reserves, and my younger sister continue successfully pursue a nursing education. I'm seeing my dad slowly come to terms with not having the love of his life around anymore, and together him and I are feeling less hopeless and lost.

Seeing mother's day ads is hard. I'm not going to lie. I had planned a sweet gift for my mom to try and heal some of the hurt between us and show her that I did see her love for me underneath everything else. I didn't get that chance though. I'm glad I got the chance to tell her during my one visit, and that she was coherent enough to understand. I'm not looking forward to August and her birthday. I'm really trying not to think about it. But I've strayed from the point of writing this.

I just wanted to say it looks like things are finally turning around. It's been both the longest and shortest three months of my life, and I only wish some of the good that has taken place could have done so without such a high cost.

I used to try to be nice and gentle about Wiccans here but I’m done with that.

Wicca is a load of bullshit. It’s a culturally appropriative “religion” that was created by a racist predator to have sex with young women. It’s just as restrictive as Christianity but convinces young people they’re “rebelling”. It’s also binary as hell, a breeding ground for transphobes, and has no real basis in any one culture.

It can not be divorced from its racist, transphobic and predatory origins. You can’t be like “I’m a Wiccan but I reject that” because the racism, appropriation, binary-centrism and predatory nature IS Wicca. It’s woven into every fibre of the “religion”.

Learn about your own culture- for real, not just what you can find online, and definitely not from Wiccan sources. Quit stealing other cultures. Quit acting like your path is the correct one. Be more critical of what you involve yourself in.

Concept: Reverse werewolves.

 It started back in the old days, when everyone knew about them. 

Wolves that lived in the woodlands of Europe for most of the month, who take on the form of men and women when the full moon rises. They go to the little church on the outskirts of town, where a sister brings them clothes with a smile and a shake of her head.  They thank her, and hike together to the nearest small town. They show up in a little German tavern, bearing freshly killed rabbits and medicinal herbs to trade tavern keepers for a drink and a room for the night. 

They arrive in groups of six or seven, with wild hair and clothes that smell of earth. Their teeth seem a bit too long and sharp. But they joke around and push one another, watching their own children as they play with those from the village. They seem jovial, carefree, and get to know the old farmers and tavern workers and harried mothers chasing their little ones. 

They are treated with kindness, although everyone seems to know who they are. No need to say it though. They bring fresh food and good laughs. And sometimes, if you’re lucky, they gather together and sing, hauntingly beautiful, echoing music that drifts up to the moon. 

And they don’t forget these acts of kindness. 

Bandits try to attack a small farm, attempting to break in and take what little gold the family had. They still tell stories of how the shadows seems to shift, and then there were gleaming eyes and fangs, and the promise of worse to come if they returned. 

A tavern maid tells of how she was being followed by drunk men, a few miles from her little cottage. A trio of she-wolves slipped out of the shadows and walked beside her soundlessly, not leaving her side until the men backed off and she was safe inside her home. 

A young child with a broken leg, lost in the woods, never stops babbling about his wolf story. A large gray male, an alpha perhaps, grabbed him by the back of his shirt, and carried him to his mother’s doorstep. 

When the werewolves go to the taverns and hear these stories, they simply laugh. What wild imaginations these people must have. But they let the stories spread. It is good to let everyone know that the pack has grown. This village is defended.
