Now that the quality of Duolingo has fallen (even more) due to AI and people are more willing to make the jump here are just some alternative apps and what languages they have:

"I just want an identical experience to DL"

Busuu (Languages: Spanish, Japanese, French, English, German, Dutch, Italian, Portuguese, Chinese, Polish, Turkish, Russian, Arabic, Korean)

"I want a good audio-based app"

Language Transfer (Languages: French, Swahili, Italian, Greek, German, Turkish, Arabic, Spanish, English for Spanish Speakers)

"I want a good audio-based app and money's no object"

Pimsleur (Literally so many languages)

Glossika (Also a lot of languages, but minority languages are free)

*anecdote: I borrowed my brother's Japanese Pimsleur CD as a kid and I still remember how to say the weather is nice over a decade later. You can find the CDs at libraries and "other" places I'm sure.

Mango (Languages: So many and the endangered/Indigenous courses are free even if you don't have a library that has a partnership with Mango)

Transparent Language: (Languages: THE MOST! Also the one that has the widest variety of African languages! Perhaps the most diverse in ESL and learning a foreign language not in English)

AnkiDroid: (Theoretically all languages, pre-made decks can be found easily)

"I want SRS flashcards and I have an iphone"

AnkiApp: It's almost as good as AnkiDroid and free compared to the official Anki app for iphone

"I don't mind ads and just want to learn Korean"

DESTIGMATIZE REFURBISHING AND PURCHASING PREVIOUSLY LOVED PERSONAL ITEMS, NO ONE IS MAKING YOU BUY THEM!! LEAVE PEOPLE ALONE!! STOP GOING OUT OF YOUR WAY TO TELL PEOPLE YOU THINK THEY'RE GROSS BC THEY MADE A PERSONAL DECISION THAT HAPPENS TO DOUBLE AS A NET POSITIVE FOR THE PLANET OMGG

THERE IS LITTLE TO NO EXCEPTION TO THIS RULE, IF IT CAN BE CLEANED, ASSUME THE PERSON WITH THE ITEM HAS CLEANED IT, OR JUST DON'T TOUCH IT! AND IF YOU'RE THE BUYER, THEN GIVE IT ONE MORE GOOD WIPE DOWN/THOROUGH CLEANING JUST TO BE SURE YOURE GTG! BUT OTHERWISE WE NEED GET A GRIP!!

It's okay to pick the scrunchie off the ground just wash it extremely well and dunk it in some alcohol. The secondhand socks won't kill you, did you know they make color safe bleach if you're a frequent thrifter?? It works! Yoga mats, shoes, headphones, gloves, glasses, underwear, food, you can make the personal decision to decide they feel like a less safe option for parts of your body you want to keep very safe, but you can do that while recognizing you have the privilege to make that choice for yourself while others flat out Don't. Assume whatever you think you would do to avoid the situation has been done. Assume you Aren't more clever than the poor person. This is the reality and there's no hypothetical where they come out on top, it's important to me that we realize this is happening all around us and we just don't know it. why are we demonizing poor people for basically using the scraps of others when We're The Ones Donating The Shit, Yanno?? You just gotta not be mean! Just don't say anything. it won't kill you to not absolutely salivate and slobber at the opportunity to shame someone for doing something that isn't even bad. You don't have to clap, just don't boo.

I believe I did. I’m not sure this fits, but I still think I had something remotely similar. It wasn’t really a dream, but an image that I somehow imagined while walking to college.

One time by brain had a vision, of a mansion that stood before me, it was made in a combination of gothic and sort of general urban housing styles.

The form of that mansion was somewhat triangular like the main entrance, the two doors have been located at 90° to each other.

That Mansion was so perfectly symmetrical and perfect, devoid of any imperfection that it almost made me puke when I saw it. That vision was reminiscent of the ai images I saw not that long ago and I believe my hyperfixation on liminal spaces played into that vision.

I do not know why that imagery had such effect on me, still, the lingering picture that I remember faintly makes me somewhat nauseous when I try to recall how it looked exactly. I do not remember the line of thought that made me come to imagine that perfectly symmetrical Mansion with architecture resembling human creations yet which seemed so unnatural and eldritch to me that it made me physically sick.
