I’m guessing at one point the bottom may have had the scientific/casual names of each of the plants? Or at least was supposed to. My wife got us something similar but with herbs

Tumblr media

Another sad reality of she/it pronouns is that unless you’re using it/its and with a decent crowd, no one is calling you “it”. I’m guess I’m fine only being called “She” but I really do like being called “It”
Is she a “binary trans woman” or is she a transfem who would go by she/they if it didn’t mean exclusively being referred to with they/them

We have a lone squirrel that sometimes comes to our feeders but I could never bring myself to squirrel proof just for him. He’s really stupid I think he would starve if not for the 5 sunflower seeds he managed to grab.

Congrats buddy that’s the worst anyone’s ever done
why do some birders hate squirrels so much to the point that they actually have beef with these rodents. they are simply creatures also

This is what I miss! Too many newer small indie games have awful gen AI art instead of goofy programmer art. Using Microsoft Sam as a stand-in for voice acting has more character than an AI generated voice actor
aside from any ethical or political discussion, the use of generative AI in amateur projects really sucks to me. I think video games where you can tell all the voice acting was done by one of the developers buddies is great. I love when indie album art was painted by someone who doesn't really know how to paint. I really believe that there's a lot of value in amateur projects where it's clear the people making it didn't have a lot of resources.
If you use AI in projects then it'll be distracting, and if you do everything yourself you'll fall short, and it'll still be distracting, but instead of being frustrating or just plain cheap it'll be endearing.
that's not to mention that using generative AI usually garners a lot of ill will, especially in indie spaces.

Kicking, screaming, waking up in a cold sweat as I remember the twitter user who said my game (Ocean Born) reminded them of the Among Us wires task 😭
Tumblr media
I found my old post and lmao, 8 years have passed and things haven't changed at all (even got worse)
No, most artists still don't like it when people do that.

Wishmaster DOES NOT have transphobia in it
Wishmaster 2 DOES have some brief casual homophobia but DOES NOT have any transphobia
(These are the movies I wanted to watch and was a bit worried I’d run into something just because of when they released)
We need something like a “does the dog die” website that will let me see if this movie has awful transphobia no one talks about in it

You get this in modern games too Monster Hunter Wilds playing as a girl feels like an incredibly sapphic experience. Harvestella has mostly female love interests for you to build relationships with. I’m sure I could think of more but I do love it, even if it’s a symptom of a systemic issue with video games as a medium.
As an occasional gay chick myself I lowkey really enjoyed the shitty way 2000s-2010s video games would like let you pick the main character’s gender but assumed everyone playing was straight and would play guys, so the story was written with women hitting on the main character left and right even if they were also a woman

Tumblr ads right now remind me of when I had blocked countless brand accounts on twitter and started getting ads for like, bulk quantities of sheet metal.
Like yeah tumblr, maybe I *am* in the market for scaffolding

I really value smoothness over everything else, a stable 30 over a 60 that occasionally dips. There are Ps1 games that ran at a cool ~13 fps and by god we liked it
i do not "raytrace", i do not "DLSS", i do not "TAA", i do not "frame gen", i do not "neural render", i do not "upscale". i RASTERIZE. and if it's not 60 fps native, I don't play it.

Flip side of this the first thing dark souls does is establish that all the dragons are dead and then you almost immediately need to cross a bridge with a very very dragon-like thing breathing fire at you and it is so funny.
“It’s a Drake not a Dragon those are extinct” ^-^
"Okay, but it's not a dragon, a dragon has" if putting it in the sky would be sick as fuck, it's a dragon. Whales are dragons.

Free metrics for the dev on how their game runs ^-^
This is all also why many games do story progress achievements, so they can tell what percentage of players actually beat the game or if there were any specific sore spots
I was playing an indie game and got an achievement called "Slideshow" for having the framerate dip down below 4 FPS. I can't tell whether I admire the nerve of that or not.

Working in games journalism has to suck because you are bad at one game and will have people putting you in youtube thumbnails like you committed a murder

They don’t tell you how much fonts mess you up when learning a language with different glyphs than you’re used to.
I know how to read こにちわ but if they wiggle those letters around enough I am failing the captcha

Linearity allows for a more curated experience, you know where the player is coming from and where they’re going. Look at the difference in how encounters are set up between Arkham Asylum and the other Batman games.
There are also a lot of games with quite open designs to levels! Making the complex and interesting spaces without needing to account for the physical distance between them.
There are very few games I’ve played that truly benefit from being open world.
we need a word for when games get ruined by getting too big-ified. i really liked the first jedi fallen order game, they did a lot of things right in a little bite sized chunk of world to explore. the sequel got too big and overwhelming and it becomes a chore to explore, i did not finish the game. it's not about openworld-ification per-say, the first one was kinda open to exploration too. it's a scale issue

Hrt in little glass vials I can crush in my hand and the broken glass gets the girl potion into my blood
Maybe I’m petty but it makes me so mad seeing that weight loss drugs are available in those pen syringe thingies. Like for fucks sake I have been begging for years to have HRT in pen syringe form so I can just slam it into my leg and pretend I’m in Bloodborne, and the sketchy weight loss drug gets it first?! Rude and unfair.
