Hexblade tailor

This is a character Idea I came up with few months ago. I would like to play a tiefling who used to be a mercenary/soldier. He often would patch up clothes for other warriors with a needle he picked up in a random shop. One day his squad encounters a great foe and all perish. This is a moment in which the needle turns into a bigger needle and the tiefling fights the foe off with new hexblade powers. He discovers that the new recruit also survived but he lost an arm. The newbie asks the tiefling to take him back to his hometown where his family runs a tailoring business. He does and when they arrive the family asks tiefling to stay with them. He agrees and works as a tailor wondering what his needle really is until trouble comes to town.

This could be a npc idea or player character. I really like this concept because it mixes mystery, found family trope and passion that could be considered not fitting for a warrior character. This could also take a darker turn with survivor guilt and needles (hexblades) intentions but that is very open ended. 

You could say this is an oc with many layers.
