Finalising conceptual statements
statements in my final pdf which I will be including to create greater understanding to my images:
intro paragraph:
The design of the Mount street WW Building Bathhouse took its essience from the sites culture of New Zealand, curated with natural materials suited to implement the concept awarness of aging in all forms. The main concept behind this design are the cultural awarenss it brings as well as the health wellbeing awareness it creates through the visit experience of the bathing around materials with such signifigance.
The site environment of the WW Bathhouse located within a learning community of AUT campus, creates an open minded space for growth and relfection not only for students but people in society aswell. Therefore the initial approach to connect students and people to the culture and knowledge of movement in aging within society and ourselves (wellbeing) is finding growth and awareness for themselves is created through this experience of when entering the bathhouse aim to result in taking away more than a refreshing skin and mind but also a new leaf to how they can go and use this expeirence to live more sustainabling for the agement of themselves and the agement of the nature and culture of life itself around them.
nature designed landscape to my bathhouse design:
Nikau Tree - Nikau is a very special palm to New Zealand  as a number of palms have been introduced to New Zealand and are planted around our forestry, but the nīkau palm is our only native palm species. A nīkau palm usually lives up to 20-30 years old.
Cabbage Tree - The cabbage tree is a native species to New Zealand. Their strong root system helps stop soil erosion. Māori used cabbage trees as a food, fibre and medicine. The root, stem and top are all edible, a good source of starch and sugar. which connects to one of my main bathhouse concept of wellbeing.
Fern - I have selected the fern as a plant to include in my bath house landscape design due to its beautiful texture and its native role to New Zealand.  their are over 200 species of fern within New Zealand and are the current symbol of Aoetoroas country (silver fern).
material application:
The site immediatly took myself through to the thinking behind nature within New Zealand, which triggered the bathhouse material pallette to be the key concept behind the idea which conveys different aging of many aspects, the aging of materials in different environments, the aging of the human body and the aging of New Zealands Culture. The value an purpose of the WW bathhouse is to create a connection of experience between what is involved and whom is involved. Being carried out through the immediate connection to natural and meaningful materials to the culture of New Zealand I have used...
Kauri - A dominant inspiration seen through the design of the WW bathhouse is kauri, The design behind the floor plan of the baths is a curated sequense having destinctive kirks, dents and agement lines of inspired kauri features. kauri is a very treasured native New Zealand tree aswell as a rare material to other countrys. The approach of using this materials inspired look is to create awareness of the current issue of the kauri di- back disease within New Zealand bushes which can be prevented with the knowledge of our society and young generations. kauri’s connection to my concept of aging is that amoung others, Kauri is one of the most long lasting tree species to grow living over 2,000 years. This is a appropriate approach to the design as the use of kauri not actually using the material itself.
Copper - Copper is a key importance to my design in the sense of its materiality form and essiential mineral to our everyday lives. It is a major industrial metal because of its high ductility, malleability, thermal, electrical conductivity and resistance to corrosion. Copper has a huge significance to our bodys health in fighting off infection and helps maintain body mass, health benefits of copper is more reliable cardiovascular health, neurological on signalling, osteoporosis, collogen production, arthritis, antioxidant action and more.  Inspiration and interest to use copper within my bathhouse is  wellness encouraged space of health. When placed in different environemnts and temperatures copper ages in a variety of finishes such as colour and texture, As well as it’s look copper is good for insulating heat which is ideal for a bathhouse.
Marble - Implementing marble into my bathhouse design as the material for all benches due to the function of the material, marble conducts heat differently to other surfaces. I have design the baths to be varied in tempereatures but keep a consistant heat (humid) throughout the space, marble is cooling and refreshing for the visitors to experience.
Concrete/Stone - Having the main materials of Wood and Copper incorperating essences of grunge such as stone and organic rock add a warmth to the bathhouse.
Aging In All Forms:
All in Forms of Life aging is topic which creates un-ease in society, the design of my bathhouse is purposed to creating age awareness and connection through all different aspects of the design.
Materials such as Copper has different reactions to water over time depending on the temprature this is why I have chosen three different pool temperatures to experiment and show different aging outcomes in all sense of understanding lifes exsposures it makes to ourselves and lifes natural and un-natural aspects around us. Copper piping is designed to resemble a skeletal like structure, This is placed above too connect and remind people of the human bodys aging beauty, digging deeper into this concept of aging in all life things evolve and grow.
Awareness Of Experience:
The materiality of this Bathhouse aims to embody the presence of peoples mind and touch which brings them closer to the respect and love for themselves and the environment around them, Overall New Zealand.
Revitalising the site designs use of kauri inspired baths, structures and moments of copper detailing is an orginal design feature which defines this bathhouse as a modern and ethical approach to creating community awareness for agement and the changes it makes around us. This Design is to embody self reflection through a space of open design staying intimate with others around them, yet the curvature structures of copper create privacy.
Personal experience and reflection is valued for taking away different approachs of relaxation and connection with water, materials and how heat implements different results to the bodys sensation of wellbeing aswell as the materials.

Review lesson
Monday 27th September
week 10 review session was very helpful and insightful to how i could improve and grow my ideas which could further more detail and define my concept!
some points i took away were the focusing of materials
- focus on a few materials instead of multiple ( sometimes less is more)
- focusing on the shaping of my walls and curvature to elimate any rigid walls to create a more following space
- use the concept and idea of wellness and life of copper more in the bath house more use of the material
- the depth of the introduction of copper to the main entrance and the change of aging and exsposure it goes into further into the bathhouse
- having more private beams or walls coming out of baths to create privacy but also the difference in heights and use of water into the water to create difference textures with copper
- different temperatures in pools to further more grow on the detail of copper being exsposed to different heats to get different textures and surfaces ( frost, rust etc)
aswell as feedback another inspiration artist has gave myself new ideas to incorperate and play on which i have already found design aspects in my own

Bathhouse design perspective shots
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I have used the application called floor planner to bring my bathhouse design to life this application lets you plan out on a birds eye floor plan section and change into 3d perspective. I have designed this model digitally to scale with measurements of the site ( width, height etc)
Once I set this out floor plan wise I added materials, I stuck to my initial style of organic and natural materials that carry out my concept for awareness of culture and wellness, creating an aesthetic environment in space as well as function, through this process i had to think deeply as well as creatively designing as i had to consider what materials would be realistic in a bathhouse environment evolving and aging well with the temperature and water perspiration.
side note the white bits are still needing to be filled in and edited with materials (process updates )

150 word blurb
monday 16th august
words to describe my bathhouse design and theme that i have been reflecting on this through the progress would be ->
noun- organic, native, -> awareness
verb- trusting, -> growing/growth , educating, spiritual presence
adjective- awakening, -> purify/purifying
when refelecting on my design progress of my bathhouse so far i come to think back to the program factor of my creative thinking towards my project, what is happening in my design and how? what are the happenings? who is it for? what/ who is participating?. To break down my thought process i look back on my work layed out in front of my and analysis these program thinking questions, the happenings in my design are based around the materials and effects it has on people who are within the space, to firstly declare my aim and goal that i would love to create would be openness, the openminded thinking and clarity this bathhouse gives people about not only themselves in health awareness to what my materials used has an effect on physically and mentally but the clarity it brings to their views on culture of new zealand, the importance the issues arisen such as why materials such as kauri is so valued within the culture and how the kauri diback is needed to be implemented to sustain this culture. who/what is participating in this is the growth people walk away with in trusting natural cleanse, participating is factors such as the natural formations inspired creates views into thinking without even knowing it, the design structure of the indoor out door sliding pillars to create motion in the water. there is a dominant theme arising which is my materials influencing cultural awareness and native awareness to people who are involved in experience within my bathhouse aswell as physcial and mental health awareness. this theme is very important to my design as it helps to create memorbale sustainable design purpose to a space to become successful.
