When I think about my 5 year plan, or in this case my 1 year plan...I always conclude with that my life would be so much easier if I was born a Kardashian

After 24 years I finally had a perfect New Year's.
Partied until 230am in Hongdae with all my closest friends in Seoul then took a taxi to Bukhansan and hiked the highest peak in Seoul (836m) with Seoul Hiking Group.
My first night hike. My first snow hike. My first sunrise hike!
However, I am terribly sick now and haven't been on a regular sleep schedule since.
Here's to an amazing 2014 *clink*

62kg! Woo!
I weighed in at 62kg a few days ago but didn't want to post about it until I was able to consistently weigh in at 62kg (136 pounds)!
If I'm able to lose 6 more pounds by mid January...I will have officially lost 25 lbs in one year! I'm really glad I am slowly making a lifestyle change and seeing results!
But I don't want to slip again so even though I feel like I'm on a roll I don't want to celebrate too early until I can CONSISTENTLY keep this weight and fitness level up!

Co-Teacher Ramblings
Just wanted to do a quick blog post about an experience I had today that was really nice. Again this is a personal post so it's gonna end up being a rant and not interesting to read and a wall of text!
Anyways, one of my coteachers right now is 37 and married and has two kids. We are as different as two people can get. She married her first boyfriend and they've been together since they were 19. She's super conservative and when the semester started we butted heads a LOT. This was due to our different personalities, teaching styles as well as it was her first time co-teaching with a native speaker.....I remember the first 2 months of this semester (August to mid October) I seriously never looked forward to work and dreaded whenever she stood up from her side of the office in fear she might be walking towards me.
A few weeks ago we had a good talk and we were both very up front about how we felt and it turned out to be a lot of misunderstanding and miscommunication....since then we've been gelling really well together and whenever we do have a conflict in the classroom in terms of teaching style we are able to soothe it over really quickly as we are now quite aware of why the issue occurred. It was SOOO nice to have that talk with her and I was so happy we could be so frank about each other. I learned a lot about myself and she admitted she learned a lot about herself too.
It's been such a great experience for me because this is the first time in my life that I've worked so directly with someone so much my senior and honestly it's been refreshing....especially today when.....one of our classes did not show up. We called the homeroom after 10 minutes and it turns out the class had a guest speaker so we had a free period!
Usually we are aware when our free period is in advance so we usually stay in our office or busy lesson planning but we've worked out quite a system of lesson planning that we always plan 2 weeks out in advance so we've been able to have a lot of free time recently...so we decided to stay in the classroom and chat. And the conversation flowed so freely it was refreshing.
It was honestly the first time in a long time that I felt like I was able to have an honest conversation about my passions, thoughts, feelings and fears and plans with a stranger. I mean, if you know me I am a pretty open book but I feel whenever I tell my friends the same things....we are all kind of on the same page and we all feel the same (especially as an university graduate in Korea teaching English) so it was so refreshing to get her opinion and perspective of where I am in life especially since she is at quite a different stage of her life.
But what was more refreshing was that she opened up to me and I know 37 isn't that old but she's been married for 10 years and has two kids so I always just ignorantly assumed she's set for life as her husband has a pretty stable career as well! But she opened up to me about what plans and ideas she has for herself personally and professionally as well her fears and it was just so wonderful to hear that we keep growing. I mean, you ALWAYS hear that you never really quite grow up but it's hard to believe that and it was so nice that even though I totally see her as an adult with her life set out...that it is possible to keep growing and challenging yourself. And after our conversation I just honestly wished the best for her and I felt like we had a great hour together just chatting away.
Anyways that's my rambling and it probably wasn't that exciting but I just felt really lucky to be able to have that conversation today with my co-teacher.

Not me but I stumbled on this on reddit today under /r/progresspics and this is my real life motivation!
She's my height and also Asian (which really helps in terms of body shape) and she started at 175 (right), 150 (middle) and 127 (left).
Although I did not start as high as her (I was at 155) it is so motivational to see what she did over the span of TWO years! Reading what she posted I feel like we have similar mindset and also similar bodies so I just wanted to post this as a reminder to myself and also for you guys too for some real life motivation!

As today I spent all day in my bed instead of at work...although I was pretty set on staying a 3rd year in Seoul to save money (renewal, pay raise, etc etc). I am so tempted to apply to jobs in HK....I dont know why I am hesitant.
I think the biggest thing is that I know I won't be able to save as much if I went to HK versus a 3rd year in Seoul....but I think also I'm scared because I feel like everything in Seoul has been so perfect and easy...but I should go to HK right? Even if I save less...it'd be a new experience and after HK Im gonna go back to Vancouver and settle anyways so I should have one more "new" experience....or stay in Seoul and save?
Thoughts?

how lazy winter can make me.
Need to commit to a fitness class before I get too lazy and maybe look into some Korean classes.

Jijiksa Temple Stay
So this past weekend I was able to participate in a temple stay in Gimcheon which is a smaller city on the southern part of Korea (near Daegu). It was a great experience BUT I would love to do it again on my own or with a friend or two as this was a free temple stay for foreigners so there was over a 150 of us and it wasn't the best organized thing I've ever been to....I also felt the number of participants took away from some of the authenticity.
Here are some of my favourite pics from the weekend!

This was our setting for dinner. We are given a stack of bowls (baru) and had to unstack them and set our napkins accordingly. The biggest bowl on the bottom was for rice, the bottom right was for soup, the top right was for sides (vegetables) and the top left was for water used to clean our bowls after. Once we were done eating we had to use the top left bowl's water to clean all of our bowls and utensils and then drink the water including the dregs! Some people couldn't do it...but I mean it was just what you ate....all in one shot, hah.

This was one of my favourite experiences during my temple stay! We had to do 108 full bows and between each bow we would string a bead along this string to make a necklace. Each bow meant something (which I forgot but had something to do with wishes, hopes, things from our past to let go, etc etc.) They were full bows too! So we had to do a bow from the waist then get on our knees then put our forehead to the ground then come back up. I really enjoyed it as it was done in silence aside from the monk's beating of his instrument.

The location for this temple stay was GORGEOUS! My only complaint from the weekend was that we weren't given any free time to wander the grounds and take in the nature!

Mascots from the temple to greet us upon arrival!

We were also given orange uniforms to wear the entire weekeend. They were kinda like MC Hammer pants and pretty comfy!

We also made lotus lanterns and took a stroll outside at night around the pagoda 3 times. It was also a full moon so it was a gorgeous evening with clean mountainous crisp air!

The morning after we were taken on buses to pick cabbage and then we went to make kimchi.

With our cabbage pickings!

Tonight's at home workout.
I was supposed to go to bootcamp tonight but I had such a bad time being sick last winter that I really want to do all I can to NOT get sick this year. I don't mind it raining or being cold...but tonight was a possibility of both outside!
So anyways I did:
10 minutes of jump rope 50 tricep dips 50 knee push ups 50 jumping jacks 50 squats 50 burpees 50 bicycle crunches 50 toe reaches 50 lunges 1 minute plank I think I'm gonna do this routine for my winter routine as I thought I could run outside but it doesn't look like it anymore :(
