could u make a post about Tumblr alternatives? I heard of soup-io, ello-co, stampsy-com, medium-com, svbtle-com, tackk-com, sett-com, but which of them have things like search, follow with feed (dash), liking posts, REBLOGGING posts (called reposting on some sites lol), private messages, customizable blogs or profiles (html editor like on Tumblr would be great), and such? [plz just free and web-based w/ or w/o apps, not apps-only, cuz not everyone uses exclusively a smartphone for social stuff]

There are lots of free blogging platforms that can be possible alternatives to Tumblr. However, none of them are really exactly like Tumblr so they may not have all of Tumblr’s features. Here are some of them (in no particular order) including my first impression of said platforms and some of their features.

Just got an email from Tumblr about this blog turning 2.

Well, to be more precise, it’s been quite a while since I got the email, but I only just now got ‘round to posting this due to being very busy lately. One of the things I’ve been working on was creating more Tumblr themes.

Recently, I’ve released the Rei Asa and Arica Tumblr themes.

Rei Asa comes with a portfolio cards widget, a full screen search feature, a modal menu, and a whole lot of customization options and features.

Tumblr Themes Update: Extended License Option

As mentioned in the terms of use page for my Tumblr themes, I’ve added an Extended License option for all the premium themes. The Extended License is for those who want to remove the credits link on the themes. So, how does this work?

Regular License vs. Extended License

The Regular License is the default option. This one comes with credit links. These links show up in the footer section of the theme. Below, you can see an example of what it looks like using the Fiorella Tumblr theme:

Note that the first Fiorella in the pic above is actually the blog title, which means this will automatically change depending on the title of your blog. It will also link to the URL of your blog.

By getting the Extended License, you will be able to remove the credit links. Using the pic above as an example, this means the “Fiorella theme by Freya Yuki” part will be removed.  

Note that buying an Extended License will include a theme file that has no credit links, which means you don’t need to do anything else; the credit links have already been automatically removed for you.

How to get the Extended License?

Go to this link: https://gumroad.com/freyayuki

Pick a theme

Once you’re on the theme’s purchase page, you’ll see something like this:

Click on the “Regular License” button

A dropdown menu will show up

One of the choices will be “Extended License”

Choose the “Extended License” option

The button above the “I want this!” button will now say “Extended License” instead of “Regular License”

Click on the “I want this!” button and you’ll be taken to the checkout page

Don’t forget that you’re not alone

Yuragu Koto Nai Ai (song lyrics from Get Backers)

Yuragu Koto Nai Ai is the first opening theme song of the Get Backers anime and manga series. It was sung by Tamura Naomi.

Get Backers tells the story of Midou Ban and Ginji Amano, friends who have special abilities. Their job is to get back anything that was lost or stolen. The show is very interesting, to say the least, and the song sounds really nice not to mention meaningful.

I love the words quoted above. At first glance, it seems really simple and it is but it’s also so poignant and meaningful. Even the Japanese romaji words are not hard to remember:

“Wasurenaide hitori janai yo.”

This quote is so awesome that it totally needs to be framed, ne? Because the truth is that this quote is something that can easily be forgotten, right?

Sometimes, we might get the feeling that we’re alone, that no one understands us, that no one cares about us, that we’re nothing, that we’re so insignificant and that it wouldn’t matter even if we disappear. 

Sometimes, we just end up feeling sad, depressed or melancholy. In those moments, don’t you find yourself wishing that someone would tell you and remind you that you’re not alone?

Don’t you want someone to say this quote to you? Because, sometimes, we just need to be reminded that there’s someone out there who cares about us, who cares what happens to us and who will be sad if we left or disappeared. What do you think about this phrase? Have you said it to someone? Has someone said it you?

Rustelia Update: Tumblr Controls And Cookie Consent Banner Widget

The codes for the Cookie Consent or the Cookie Notice Banner Widget on the Rustelia Tumblr theme was just updated. For more information on this widget and how to customize it to your liking, refer to this post.

The theme was also updated to make sure the Tumblr Controls, the links (Edit theme, Dashboard, etc) that appear on the top right corner of your blog when you’re logged on to your Tumblr account are visible. Previously, the controls were already visible.

However, as mentioned in this post and its notes, Tumblr made some changes that caused the controls to stop showing up. The Rustelia codes have just been updated, so that the controls are, once again, easily accessible.

Rustelia Update: Post Content Widget

The Rustelia Tumblr theme was just updated to include another widget. This one is only visible on permalink pages. If enabled, it will show up right after the text content of your posts. 

Just like the Sidebar and Header Content Widgets, you can put whatever you want on the Post Content Widget including text, polls, HTML, CSS, Javascript, etc.

How to enable this widget?

First, go to the theme options page of your blog, scroll down, then look for the following:

Choose “show” or “hide” depending on what you want. You can also choose the alignment of the widget by looking for the following:

To add content to the widget, look for this:

Rustelia Update: Post Title Color

Previously, all link colors can be changed via the Accent Color. But, now, you can differentiate between the color of your post titles and your links by setting the Post Title Color.

To change the color of your post titles, just go to the theme options page of your blog, scroll down, then look for the following:

Just choose the color that you want and then save your changes. Here’s an example.

Instead of this:

You can get something like the following with the Post Title Color feature:

Rustelia Update: Transparent Header Background

Don’t want to add a background color or image to your header? Make your header background transparent then so you can showcase the body background color or image of your blog.

Just go to the theme options page of your blog then scroll down and look for the following:

Toggle the switch on or off depending on what you want. Here’s an example:

If you turn on the Transparent Header Background feature, you’ll get something like this instead of the above:
