I have to do two Megazord tattoos and then I’m done with Power Ranger fan art. The actual tattoo drawing is stripped down. I took it a little further so I have something fun to post. #powerrangers #megazord

This is how I color. I use a soft brush with pen sensitivity off and work in grayscale. I then multiply the layer and it darkens the base color layer underneath. Most of the time, the grayscale is a little too dark so I lower the opacity. The grayscale also mutes the base colors so I bump up the saturation. I repeat these steps in a new layer and screen it for highlights. This is obviously a photo reference, so I made the original photo into a black and white image and posterized it at 12, so I can see the gradations. I then use the eye dropper tool to select the proper grays to work in. If needed, I’ll use the smudge tool to blend some of the harsher shades. Or Ill use the gaussian filter at about 7 or whatever looks right to blur. I usually only use this technique on skin. Everything else, I duplicate the base color layer and rename it the render layer and then I turn on pen sensitivity (sometimes) and color. This technique is a little more versatile because now I want have gradations of one color. Like, I can pain purple onto the blue instead of just have different shades of blue.
