My face started doing weird things with Birth Control, and because I've never gone off of it in really any capacity, the effects have always stuck. One of those, is a "blemish" face. However, I think it's time we get rid of that word. Blemish. I'm not BLEMISHED, I'm radiantly living in the beautiful body I have. Stay beautiful, not a single one of you is BLEMISHED. You each have the face of stories, time, and our journey, and each is Splendid, not a tarnish to your inherent beauty.

Story time: I’ve had acne since I was 11. I inherited it from my dad. After almost 25 years of taking hormones to treat it, I went off the pill last year because I was tired of the side effects. The acne came back, and even though I had prepared myself for that beforehand, it’s still really challenging. I can’t help but feel a sense of shame when my skin breaks out. At the same time, I would never judge anybody else for having blemishes. Skin texture is such a complicated thing and I have so many emotions around it. So here are some drawings of pretty girls with blemishes - it helps me process some of these complicated feelings. And hugs to all of you who also suffer from skin problems - you’re not alone!

There’s a protest going on against AI art over on artstation, so I feel like now is the time for me to make a statement on this issue! 

I wholeheartedly support the ongoing protest against AI art. Why? Because my artwork is included in the datasets used to train these image generators without my consent. I get zero compensation for the use of my art, even though these image generators cost money to use, and are a commercial product. 

Musicians are not being treated the same way. Stability has a music generator that only uses royalty free music in their dataset. Their words: “Because diffusion models are prone to memorization and overfitting, releasing a model trained on copyrighted data could potentially result in legal issues.” Why is the work of visual artists being treated differently?

Many have compared image generators to human artists seeking out inspiration. Those two are not the same. My art is literally being fed into these generators through the datasets, and spat back out of a program that has no inherent sense of what is respectful to artists. As long as my art is literally integrated into the system used to create the images, it is commercial use of my art without my consent.

Until there is an ethically sourced database that compensates artists for the use of their images, I am against AI art. I also think platforms should do everything they can to prevent scraping of their content for these databases. 

Artists, speak out against this predatory practice! Our art should not be exploited without our consent, and we deserve to be compensated when our art is exploited for commercial use.

even spicier take: “non-binary” means a thousand different things to a thousand different people and therefore anyone of any sexuality could theoretically be attracted to a non-binary person in some capacity, so if you’re gay and someone you’re attracted to says, “i’m non-binary,” you don’t actually have to redefine your entire identity, you can just drink a cup of sleepytime tea and go right on being gay and into non-binary people.

When it feels like there's no way forward and an impass has been met. Just as Freki and Geri, the wolves of Odin who's names translated to "greed," and "destruction," (conceptual translations) can toil inside of us and try to fully entrap and rule our lives.

Where are you not allowing yourself to move forward?

What can you do in small parts day over day for YOU, to start moving past this blockage, be it situational or a being?

INVERSED:

As with above speaking of stagnations, an inversed 2 of Swords indicates further resistance towards your path forward.

Maybe it's you've found a solution, but are afraid of the work now necessary and understood for working towards your goals.

Maybe it's anxiety clinging to your every move in life as you attempt to move into something new.

Understand that chemically we can become dependant on uncomfortable emotions such as rage, anxiety, sadness, depression. They can become akin to a snuggly blanket. The blanket is also on fire.

These emotions are SIGNALS, and are meant to be moved and processed THROUGH. Sit with them only long enough to understand what the difficult message is, and start working towards a plan of how to move forward.

Your understanding and acknowledgement of the issue IS AN ACCOMPLISHMENT.

Now allow yourself to Start to move forward.

Revisited the Death Card after having the deck reviewed by a fellow artist. We decided the color shift was throwing things off, and formatted it to be closer to the borders colors and added the skulls to the background.

As with Death, we can continue to transition from one point of our lives to the next, and from one iteration of ourselves to the next.

#artvsartist 2023 is already here!

I am LOVING how good it feels to be creating a BODY OF WORK again. I loosely started working on building a Tarot Deck last year and decided to make 2023 the Year of Tarot for me.

People have been encouraging me to do a deck for a long time ans creating 78 cards is a LONG process that requires a lot of dedication. My hat off to EVERY artist who's ever done a Deck.
