Hey,

Been a while since I’ve used this blog. I don’t know if anyone cares or not, but I’m going to make a concerted effort to get back to regular uploads and blog posts. I know I’ve said that before and didn’t stick to it. I want to; life has just been challenging lately, especially since I’ve been on this awful Wed/Thurs off schedule for over a year. I don’t know if that’ll improve in a month or not (I find out my new schedule on June 5), but I’ve got my fingers crossed that maybe I can have one real weekend day again.

Anyway, if you see this and you care about me, know that I’m not gone for good. I’ll talk more about my plans later when I’m not on mobile.

Look, I finished one art!

It needs a little more work, but I’m basically finished. I’m calling this one “Best Bugs” because I love them all so much.

so, deltarune becomes kind of horrifying if you assume the player is possessing kris. We save over THEIR save file at the beginning with our own name.

Kris can’t move or defend themself unless we tell them to. They even noticeably didn’t contribute a team name idea, even susie did that!

Kris often just stands blankly during cutscenes like a Good Protagonist, but it’s especially jarring when literally everyone in the scene reacts but them:

more disturbing than that tho, is when the player relinquishes control and kris lifelessly ragdolls, because they literally can’t do anything.

when the king hits and subsequently drops them (Admittedly they were pretty badly hurt here):

Notably, Kris DOES seem to be able to break control occasionally:

when the supply closet door scares them, they take a step back.

they bow along with the others to protect lancer, in direct contrast to the above instances where they just stand motionless during “group” actions.

THEY were the one who was scared when the guards surrounded everyone, the only time they “show” any emotion at all:

They seemed to be in control during the thing with the Fountain, which makes sense since the soul was otherwise occupied.

Finally, THEY WERE THE ONE WHO CHOSE TO PROTECT SUSIE.

I don’t really have a nice pithy way to close this, but it seems like only extreme fear can free Kris from our control for a short time. Nice happy fun game.

I like to think the Knight has some degree of empathy, even if they don’t really understand or realize it.

Also I need to fix it so the Knight is standing on a rock or something. Whoops.

Welp, Tuxedo Ken informed me last night that the mic wasn’t working for the 3 eps of Hollow Knight he was in, so now I’m salty and I can’t get over it. If you were looking forward to hearing the dulcet tones of his voice and stupid dad jokes once again, sorry. I’ll try and get more recorded while he’s around for like... optional stuff.

I feel like Zote being part of the Colosseum fight doesn’t mean he actually beat it - he’s definitely not strong enough to defeat anything, considering his crappy shellwood sword. He’s caged up and sent out as something for the Knight to defeat. That tells me he was probably bragging (big shock there) and they (the bugs who run the Colosseum) went, “Okay, let’s see how strong you REALLY are.”

I feel like the Knight, which I know shouldn’t have a will, may feel some level of pity for the old coot (if they have the capacity to feel at all). That’s the only reason I can think of why they didn’t outright kill him.

Or maybe it’s just a funny gag in a video game idk.

I think about how Tiso is canonically weaker than Zote a lot.

- In Godhome, Tiso gets killed instantly by the Brooding Mawlek - The Brooding Mawlek is a part of the Colosseum of Fools - Tiso died in the Colosseum of Fools - Zote, however, survived the Colosseum of Fools. - Therefore, Zote survived an encounter with the Brooding Mawlek, an opponent that kills Tiso instantly. So, Zote is stronger than Tiso.

Holy shit you guys. Last night I beat the true final boss of Hollow Knight. I finally fucking did it. The guy who bitches about hard games BEAT THIS HARD GAME!! And it feels AMAZING!! Don’t get me wrong, still not ever finishing Dark Souls or whatever, but this is a huge accomplishment for me. I really couldn’t believe I did it (and I have Tuxedo Ken as a witness btw!). Just... ugh. So happy.

My next White Whale is the Trial of the Fool.
