"I'm being bossed around by hermione granger." he smiles. "and I'm mildly enjoying it" what in the dramione is going on here? I know it's just fan service, but it's pretty genius. I'm not saying who's genius though.

I love what a healthy marriage harry and ginny have through their communication :‘) real millenial parents actively trying to heal from their childhood trauma.

"if I had to choose a companion to be at the return of eternal darkness with, I'd choose you" look, I love my friends too, but I would never make speeches the way scorpius does to albus. (and then albus always roasts him rip)

and now harry gets a chance to hold dumbledore accountable for abandoning him, leaving him with the dursleys and using him as cannon fodder since he was 11? am I the only one who loves these missing scenes coming to life??

the fact that ron and hermione got canon drunk married is kind of out of character for them but I honestly love it. gives me chandler and monica vibes. and generally that they are so in love is so sweet <3
but ron saying "albus got an older girlfriend" about 14 year old albus and delphi, who is in her early 20s??? it's like when harry thought tonks was in love with sirius, her first cousin?? common sense is out of the window in this series sometimes.

"along the way I started believing in the cause myself" that's a really sweet twist for snape I think :‘) and also pretty much what I imagined in my headcanon.

although in my headcanon, snape is alive (don't ask), seeing him in this scene was really touching somehow. and how close he is with hermione, first name terms and all. people criticized this play for being to fanficy, but honestly that's kind of the dream?

I actually like the idea that you can choose your house to a certain extent after all. explains why scorpius is in slytherin for example.

scorpius looks at albus talking to a girl and part of him likes it and part of him doesn't, huh? sounds like canon albus/scorpius after all :)

the 21st century lingo is quite funny and makes it a bit more realistic (if you can call it that). like "uber geek", "no way josé". I did not expect to praise this play?

scorpius is either a hufflepuff or ravenclaw actually, but very much not a slytherin. and he throws out some great lines, the banter gives me og series vibes :‘) but that actually makes him more of a ron, no? so rose/scorpius is hermione/ron after all, false advertising from me, everyone!
I actually love the trolley witch scene and the mention of sirius, fred and george. sounds like something they would do.

after having owned this book for 8-9 years (!) I am finally reading cursed child for the first time. I really dreaded reading this from year to year - first bc I always slightly disliked the dh epilogue (as opposed to a good epilogue that includes a battle of hogwarts debrief in the form of a big speech that makes us all cry, not a huge flash forward into a time where "all was well" while both harry and the readers are still grieving half of the characters in this series but whatever), then bc the reviews were very bad, then bc the fantastic beasts movies were a bit meh and last but not least bc of jkr's gross transphobic statements. after that I kind of forgot about it, but I've recently wanted to reread the series so bad and realized that I still hadn't read cursed child so I challenged myself to read it first before doing a reread.
despite still thinking that a play is not the best medium for this story as it feels very rushed and staccato (and not something jkr is good at - this should've been a short story on pottermore, I loved those rip), it's actually better than I thought. I think the premise is pretty interesting and I'm already quite hooked although scorpius casually mentioning that he might be voldemort's son is pretty wild imo. I think the characters are quite fleshed out, I especially like albus (I also picture him exactly like edmund from narnia and as you know I loved that guy), even though some feel very similar to the og ones. like rose basically has hermione's lines from ps and is just slightly more bitchy. james jr is basically james sr etc. I somehow don't mind though? only delphi is 1:1 tonks which is a poor choice I think - bc her death is still fresh, y'know :( (not in my headcanon, but you don't need to know that)
what I noticed however and which I don't know how to feel about yet, is that the pairings albus/scorpius and rose/scorpius seem to mirror their parents' most popular non canon ship. so harry/draco and hermione/draco. I wonder if jkr wanted to do fan service for them or - this is a wild guess though - she even copied some of the ideas from fanfiction? anyway, it's really strange to me as I never shipped these two ships, but I guess the fandom got the second generation canon now (albeit ambigious as I don't think albus and scorpius end up together and idk if rose and scorpius do).

more notes on tolkien/lotr:
I watched narnia (the lion, the witch and the wardrobe) for the first time (for some reason I missed most of the fantasy childhood movies when I was the right age) and bottom line, I enjoyed it, but it was also very much made for kids. only I kind of obsessed over edmund (which I don't know how to feel about bc he is a literal child...). the locks on tilda swinton however? let's just say this movie would have been made differently nowadays. my actual point was though, that I didn't fully get the christianity theme in this either? like they say about tolkien and lotr, c. s. lewis seems to have made his faith a big narrative in the chronicles of narnia, but I found about 1 thing that I consider part of this (when aslan sacrifices himself and resurrects). maybe I just can't see it or people are overinterpreting both tolkien and lewis' works? anyway, I once wanted to read the narnia books, but I wasn't too blown away by the storyworld, so I'll skip that one. lots of other fantasy books to read.
and I learned a lot about celtic mythology recently and while I knew tolkien took things from norse mythology, there is actually a whole lot more from celtic myth. esp the elves are heavily inspired by the people of the síde (is that the correct plural?), which is probably something that people from britain and ireland know, but this was absolutely new to me. also the prologue of gulliver's travel's reminded me a lot of the first chapters of fellowship of the ring. I tend to forget that tolkien was a lecturer at uni and really educated and well-read, he took inspo from lots of things. in a brilliant way, I might add.

I just found out there is a middle earth time travel story written by tolkien himself?? I read about this in a fanfiction context before and thought oh well, classic fanfic, but this is actually canon stuff? I really wasn't aware of how vast tolkien's universe of writing was and how innovative he was. I mean he wrote this stuff decades before anyone else thought of high fantasy with intricate history and conlangs, accompanying books and basically fanfiction (as a style genre) for his own works. I'm honestly too lazy to read all of it (bc I'm unfortunately not a teen anymore who has lots of time on their hands like I did with hp for example), but I would love to see all of this as movies.
the concept of especially the lost road really reminds me of assassin's creed - was this an inspiration maybe? but then the notion club papers are like dark academia mixed with scifi (and obvi fantasy as there is lotr stuff in it). how cool does that sound?? I know it's unfinished as well, but I might actually give this one a go since I really wanted to read a dark academia book for a while, but they all sound so bland.
honestly, the more I read about tolkien, there more I'm in awe. to be a massive nerd and write fantasy lore for your whole professional career along with your bff and also meet the love of your life at a really young age and stay with her till the end and make up a beautiful ethereal elf character inspired by her, tell your children the most epic bed time stories so that you have to make them into a book and then become one of the most successful writers of the century by kind of inventing a new genre?? sounds like the right way to live. sincerely, a newly converted tolkien stan <3

when I first read that tolkien says he transcribed eldarin into our letters, while making sure they don't look "uncouth", I was like what does that even mean? but now I understand. through something he kept in:

I mean you can say a lot about the necessity of the excessive and very detailed lore of lotr. but all the musings on translation especially, are actually genius. I think he tried to retcon a lot of things from the hobbit, but the things he came up with actually make so much sense. like I too always imagined the names in hp were either different ones "in real life" or chosen by seers bc there is no way someone would call their child sirius black who then has a black dog animagus. but tolkien actually explained all these things and I have so much respect for that. that man really thought trough his own lore.

is there some type of filter on this? it's like my vision is slightly blurred. it's a bit better in the non-fire scenes but I think it might just be the video quality. oh no, in the snow as well.
kili cant even grow a proper beard (or doesn't want to?) which is why he looks even less like a dwarf than fili.
personally don't understand why the arkenstone would drive someone mad? didn't thror go mad bc of the ring?
since when do elves have magic powers like that, by just waving a hand? anyway, for some reason when elrond with the sword appeared, I got really excited. and in general the fighting scene was pretty epic, loved the sword moves. you never get to see those three in action in the books and I love when powerful beings in fantasy fight, it's so elegant somehow. first noticed that in ootp, with dumbledore. not sure what happened to galadriel here though?
ok, kili dying bc tauriel distracted him is a bit dumb. also they've known each other for like a week.
I almost fell asleep in the last fighting scenes - bc I was tired, not bc it wasn't well made. the whole movie was visually stunning again.
not me thinking cate blanchett singing the song in the credits at first lol
loved this movie series, honestly close to 10/10! I can't wait to watch lotr (except I will wait bc I only just finished the books...)
