One of the pictures from WSJ2015. I can't believe it has been over a year. I'm excited for my next scouting adventures to come. Excited to go back to the thing that is such a big part of me; scouting, camping, hiking. I haven't been very active over the past year, uni life got me caught up. But I'm going to change that this year!

Well I haven’t been on the scouting scene very much lately since WSJ. I have missed it dearly. We had our annual Carol Service on Sunday. Watching the kids sing makes me happy. It was the last time wearing my explorer uniform, I will be getting an adult one soon. Where has my childhood gone?!  Sorry for the blurry faces, I’m not really supposed to post recognizable pictures of the young ones online without parental permission. :)

The camps where the Training Team do workshops, they seem to be very interesting places.
Should add - this wasn’t a marriage proposal; but a request that the Leader on the left to be their ‘Den Leader’ for life.

Celebrating summer 2015
I haven’t written a blog entry in a few months, although I’ve thought about it a lot. Mostly I’ve thought about sharing about the brave and selfless young people who work at Camp Ernst all summer. They set aside weeks of their free time to be camper focused, endlessly cheerleading, ready to take care of emergencies (both real and imagined). I saw a counselor searching high and low (i.e., to Lakeview and back to the valley!) for his camper’s beloved sweatshirt (he found it). I saw a counselor huddled by the nurse’s office listening to a camper talk about how sad she was about her parents getting divorced. I watched a counselor return to the ropes course after dinner with her cabin because one camper had decided she was truly going to conquer her fears and go off the airwalk. I listened to a counselor break the ice in a “how do you let your light shine” discussion by sharing his own story first. Campers told me about their snack parties, custom-made games, special hikes and early morning creek walks. I read thousands of camper evaluations extolling the “coolness” and “niceness” and “awesomeness” of their counselors.
Tumblr media
This is what is amazing. These young people are putting others first, and teaching campers to put others first. They are part of the cycle of summercamp—where campers come back year after year with the goal of becoming counselors, to be awesome like their own counselors were. The summers spent as a camp counselor teach invaluable skills including teamwork, servant leadership, risk management, public speaking, creative problem-solving, and so much more.
Tumblr media
Each year when summer is over, we start over with the countdown of days until those enthusiastic voices, encouragers of kids, and inspirational young people come back. Big camp clap to the 430 high school and college students who served at YMCA Camp Ernst in 2015. Looking forward now to 2016!
Ernstlove,
eli

1910 - USA.
Next, you’ll have some UK Scout saying they’ve been doing it since 1907; before it was cool.

I got mine from IKEA 12 years ago. My Mum made a head-hole in the middle and sewed it nicely. It's still great! (Though i still have 99% of my badges to sew on) It really doesn't matter too much what kind of blanket you use as long as you like it.
what kind of material is the blanket made of and is it good? because i have more than 170% badges than i started with, and a lot of them are huge. i have to do something with them, and i have yet to make a camp blanket
Mines a really weird material because its very old - It was one I found in our loft. It’s almost like a traditional one, y’know thats scratchy..
Its very good though! It’s also nice to sew onto as well
Sorry I cant be more help than that

Me? I’d use Girl Scout bikkies to make the Dragon into a friend, then Knight them into the Crew.
What would you do?

One of the absolute gems the Explorers came up with at the planning meeting last night… “Throw the one ring into Mt Doom in Mordor with Frodo and Samwise #MyPrecious ” I knew there was a reason I loved the Explorers!
