Learning how to write with a brush pen, pt.1

I found some brush pen warmups that I decided to finally put to use and practice my brush pen skills. They are from loveleighloops.com, which I printed out years ago but never tried out. It takes some time to get started, but I took 3 brush pen types to see what I'm comfortable with.

Tombow fudenosuke is my all-time favorite for years, and I can confirm it here. It was much easier to test out the warmup drills and craw shapes and lines. I had more control over each brush stroke. I think I have the hard tip brush pen, I bought it years ago.

Unipin brush pen is ok, but I found that it feels softer, and I had less control over each stroke, especially when I had to practice thinner brushstrokes. I guess it takes some time to get used to it.

Last but not least is the Tombow ABT 977, I used to letter with it in my bullet journal for the cozy aesthetic vibes, and it's still going strong. At first, I had no idea what to do with it, and it's a struggle to get the lines correct and not shaky.

How do you call this: brush pen calligraphy? Or is it called brush pen lettering? Idk

January art journey updates:

Hey everyone! I'm finally back after the longest hiatus ever.

I had to deal with a back injury, so I haven't made any art or art updates, but I'm slowly building up the new work and Im excited to start posting more often here 🍸 last few weeks I was focusing mostly on YouTube, but I'm finding the tempo that works for me to practice drawing and creating new art pieces and sketches.

2025 art journey goals include:

Building out long form step by step botanical drawing library for anyone who wants to learn how to draw plants

Practice hand lettering skills based on some public domain books I found on internet archive

Try out the loomis method for portrait sketching and digital art. I miss that the most now.

For now, here's the hand lettering of the word January to start off the new season. I'm thankful for all of you who are here💛

Bullet journal update

In 2022 I have finally decided to try out a dot grid notebook. I have previously used lined notebooks that I have collected over time, received as gifts, etc. And wow this has been a good challenge to relearn what works for me.

Now, I'm witching from a dot grid notebook to a lined notebook to have a bullet journal for November and December and 2023 and let me tell you - it was a struggle. I completely forgot how to create layouts for lined paper. Currently channelling somber October/November vibes with neutrals.

1st speedpaint ❤

Calm💫 color study, sketch & a speedpaint(?) - it's far from finished. The min goal is to see how shadows and highlights reflect on hair and how they're placed on the face.

Whoops it's almost 1am but- ✨midnight coloring study✨

A newbie in coloring. I took a photo of my pencil sketche and here I'm coloring it on my phone😀

Anyone has some coloring tips to share? Please do if you have, I have no idea what I'm doing.

Garlic flower💛 Looks nice from this point but if you look closer it's a total mess. Having more patience is definitely something that I want to learn. If anyone has some tips to share please do!!🥺

Beginning stages always include full focus on the face and the hair and when I'm happy with the way it looks I move onto the shading, clothing and polishing🪄
