Dean gets an infection or a curse or something, anyway he's got a really high fever and he's disoriented and hallucinating and Sam's trying to take care of him, but Sam's let his facial hair grow out a bit, and he's grown into himself now, he's a big guy and he's got a presence, he's calm and authoritative and just a little bit frustrated, and he's telling Dean that it's okay, but he needs to lie down and rest and Dean stills from where he was trying to escape his sick bed again and blinks at him, bleary eyed and unseeing and says, "Dad?"

The radio station changes again, and Dean smiles at the dashboard, "so yeah," he says, picturing Cas listening closely to him, "we still have a couple hours to go." He shrugs lightly.

The radio comes to a stop before starting again in a different station. A pop music one, he winces slightly.

"Yeah, not my kind of music, you think you can change that?"

Castiel does and Dean laughs lightly, not because it's funny, just because he is happy. He can almost picture Cas, squinting as he focuses on the radio.

Castiel told him talking on the phone is fine, but he confessed it has never made him feel as connected to Dean as praying does.

"It's so quiet since I can't hear the angels anymore" he had told him, laying on his back with Dean sprawled over him, "your voice is always nice to hear, but my grace feels closer to you if it's the voice of your soul what I can hear."

They talk about these things now.

Dean told him he doesn't mind praying, but he does mind the lack of an answer. Logically, he knows Cas is listening, but he also can't help but wait for an answer that won't be coming.

They have reached a compromise, that's why Cas is, from the other side of the country, playing with Dean's radio.

He watches out of the windshield as Sam enters the gas station, he clears his throat, "wish you could be here too," and then, after a deep breath, "I love you." Must be the twentieth time he had told Cas at this point, he still gets the same butterflies that he got the first time. He kinda whishes that never changes.

The radio goes silent, and Dean helds his breath, a beat passes.

His phone beeps from his pocket.

He unlocks it.

I love you.

He reads the text message a couple of times.

Another text comes in a few seconds later.

That's the one thing I don't want you to wait for a reply to.

i know it was kind of an accident but the way supernatural said god is a petulant little man who seeks nothing but violence and suffering and control. god is a washed up hack of a writer who has a drinking problem. god is an absent father and the creepy guy who comes into your job sometimes and if you’ve ever wondered how god could allow suffering it’s because he thinks it makes you more interesting.

i think it's important to point out that eddie's parents stole his kid and were letting people believe they were christopher's parents, yet eddie was gentle as he announced he was taking his son back. yeah, he was petty and left his dad in lubbock, but he also kissed his mom on the forehead as he went to leave.

meanwhile, he is willing to scream and cry and point his finger in buck's face. because he is safe with buck in a way he isn't safe with his parents. the difference is SO LOUD. eddie can't be messy there. they are watching his every move, so he has to keep himself together. but with buck, he knows he can fall apart, and buck will still be there. and that's why LA (buck) will always be home. and why el paso (his parents) can never be.

in my opinion one of the best things about buddie is that eddie feels comfortable enough to break down in front of buck, in ways he doesn’t in front of anyone else

You never asked what it was like. Waking up in the middle of the night to that news. Sitting alone in the dark, trying to keep it together so I don't scare the crap out of my kid

y’all I am as excited for this as the next guy but. but. The Boys is known for pushing the boundaries of what has ever been shown on television. this is the most violent and graphic show I’ve ever seen. remember when they made that one guy shrink down and go up another guy’s dick and then the first guy sneezed and exploded the other guy
