music commentary #19: cord cutter

surely this won't hurt!

i think this is the first time i've made a song as like. vent art... or like as a way of venting... but yes this song is Vent Art. vent music?

i don't wanna get too much into it but i've been having a lot of feelings of discomfort and bitterness that i don't think make much sense. and so, even though i feel like those feelings don't make any sense, they make me want to cut whatever's causing them out of my life. and i have cut several things out of my life recently because of these emotions. even though i feel relief by doing that i also feel frustrated and confused and ashamed

so i put those feelings into this song!!!!! and into the artwork!! though i don't think the character's expression mirrors my own emotions. if i had put my own emotions into the character i think they'd look kind of angry

also the design of this character is a little inspired by inspe.kta from great g.od grove.... i don't like inspe.kta much anymore though because of complicated reasons, but i still like his design. if you're one of the people who liked the inspe.kta fanart i drew a month ago i'm sorry to deliver this news, cause i probably won't be drawing him anymore

also...... adding lyrics to this song was a big source of frustration..... it took me a lot of effort to be satisfied with how they sounded. and my music program isn't the best for lining up lyrics to the beat, so i eventually just kinda gave up on doing that. i still think they sound okay though

What I don't like: i wish the lyrics could have been integrated better... also maybe i'm crazy but the curve for the character's body on the right side doesn't look perfectly smooth and it's bugging me

What I like: there were a lot of negative feelings put into this song, but that doesn't mean that it's bad... i feel like i got some relief from making it. and it also sounds good so that's good

music commentary #18: time's beginning

the song that. that uh

time's beginning.................... this is a song that i've been trying to make for a really long time. for like 8 months. i've had it on the back burner for like 8 months and i finally finished it

to be clear i did not spend 8 months straight actively working on it, i spent 8 months thinking every once in a while "man i should make that song"

but... Yea... Time's beginning! you might've guessed but it's a song that's meant to parallel / pair with time's end. time's end is a song about contrary, and time's beginning is a song about ebenezer. contrary and ebenezer are both different versions of the same person, similar to rochester and ruther from a tale of two r's!

there's a lot i could say about contrary and ebenezer, but the very basic background on them is that contrary is evil and ebenezer is good, and ebenezer kills contrary because of how bad she is

now i wanna talk about the differences between this song and time's end... this song is definitely a lot more Chill than time's end. time's end is a lot faster (it's 320 bpm vs. 240 bpm) and it also has a much more frantic energy to me. the way i kind of look at it is that time's end feels like a song about the climax of a story, while time's beginning feels like the falling action/resolution of a story... it also kind of has the vibe of a credits theme to me. it's chill! cause ebenezer is a pretty chill person. except for when they're killing contrary. but even then they're still mostly chill. a lot of the time they just look like ":|" no matter what's going on

What I don't like: there's something weird with youtube man... sometimes the first clock ticking sound gets cut off when i play the video and it bugs me. i have no idea why that happens but it's annoying... i also feel like 0:28 is a little abrupt, like the song maybe should have had a little more time to build up

What I like: i really like the part at 1:15 where the song slows down, pauses, and then the same(ish) part comes back with the beat... i feel like that part gives you anticipation that the song might start to get more intense, but then it just goes back to being chill... i like that i also really like the low violins playing together at 1:23, the sound of those just feels very satisfying and nice to listen to. it kind of feels when you're riding in a car and the drone-y feeling of the car driving on the road is making you really relaxed/sleepy, but in music form. i feel like this would be a really good song to listen to on a road trip
