Pywa help me, it’s been months

Hey friends! It would appear your loyal scribe went and poofed again... whoops. 

I think I mentioned somewhere around the outset of this project that I’m just bad at keeping up with multiple social media accounts, particularly when they have different logins because I find the logout/login process tedious. 

BUT! I am still working behind the scenes. IDK when I’ll have something to show for it, but that’s not really the bit that matters. What matters is that I won’t quit.

So yes, I have a DeviantArt gallery. It gets all the same stuff as the Tumblr as far as art goes, but the notes I put on the pieces tend to differ a little bit... and the pictures don’t get lost under the never ending flow of the dashboard. While the myths of how the world came to be do not linger on Tobaska’s previous pregnancies with her other children, the twins Leone and Salan are suggested to be carried by their mother for an excessively long time, during which their sisters become anxious for the birth of their new siblings and take it upon themselves to craft a gift for them. Each goddess procures something special, but it is only Bekinkai that crafts something-- a set of clay figurines that are exquisitely shaped and carefully detailed by her own hands. 

Gekku, in a fit of jealousy at being out shown, destories one of Bekinkai’s trees-- splitting the ageless behemoth in half with a single lightning strike, and begetting war between the sister goddesses once more, just as the new twins are born. Forgotten by their sisters, who are too focused on fighting to joy in the new arrival, Leone and Salan use the gifts from all of their sisters to further embellish upon the figurines made by Bekinkai, infusing essence from each goddess into the clay. As a final turn, Salan drew up the life that once existed in the tree Gekku viciously cracked in half and turned it into paint, which Leone used to glaze the clay figures.

When they were fired, they became the first people of the world.

Bekinkai raised the drowned earth beneath her burning sister Nahema, and made the first landmasses of the world while Tekani took control of the sky and swept Gekku’s storms back. The shift was violent, but these new daughters of the balance were not interested in joining sides in the ongoing battle-- rather in finding space for each of their siblings in their young lives on this new world. Bekinkai made the earth fertile, and with the warmth of Nahema the first green things began to grow upon the land she upraised, and between Gekku, Denit, and Tekani, rainstorms could be swept where they were needed to make a verdant paradise. In times where Bekinkai needed rest, Nadala would cause the world to grow cold and slow. After knowing nothing but violence against one another, these young deities found peace, and grew excited as their mother became pregnant once again.

Birthed in the midst of their elder sister’s warring, Gekku and Denit choose sides soon enough; Denit joining forces with the more pragmatic Nadala and Gekku siding with Nahema’s unyielding ambition. From them, the infant world ceased to be only burning or frozen, and instead formed into a turbulent sea upon which great storms raged; caused  by the clash of battling deities. While Gekku could effectively command the skies, Denit’s water covered the world and nearly extinguished Nahema’s fire...

Sister goddesses Nahema and Nadala were the first of the earthly pantheon to be born, their primal forces going to war over the world their parents made as if it were theirs to conquer. Their rivalry would be bitter, but neither would break the stalemate as the first balance; an unwanted balance of equal and opposed forces, was struck between them. From this, their next sisters would be born.

The parade of semi-chibi deities continues, kicking off the earthly goddesses with Nahema; goddess of fire. 

Nahema and Nadala were the first children born to Ejis and Tobaska, representing the violent forces that first shaped the planet-- volcanic uproars amid a barren ice-scape. In the creation myth, the sisters waged the first war against one another in a bid to see their own elemental essence take dominance over the other, and very nearly ripping the new world apart in the process. Most tellings of the myth claim that Nahema was nearly victorious in the end, on the verge of plunging her twin sister into the caldera of an ancient volcano, only to be stayed when their parents intervened. 

Nahema is associated with all things pleasurable to the senses, as well as metalworking, material wealth, and alchemy. Patron goddess to a major port city, she is celebrated in silks, fine foods, ornaments, and perfumes.

Did Overly Sarcastic Productions and Red’s mythology videos inspire me to art up the Cohime pantheon in her style?

Anyway, here we have Ejis and Tobaska; the Light and Void deities that came together to make the world and would, together, birth the eight earthly goddesses. It is their two symbols, together, that form the Eguri; representing everything in creation.

Started the stream this morning, and ended up arting the sweetest cuties in the entire series being so in love I just wanna squish them forever.

Pride Month Musings

While the temptation to art various characters with their appropriate flags is pretty strong, I somehow doubt I’m going to muster the energy for it among all the rest of the things I do... so, instead, if y’all have any questions about the characters and their genders/sexualities, or how gender and sexuality are viewed in the world of Cohime, feel free to send that stuff to my askbox and I’ll be happy to expound upon it... just be aware that the answers I give for specific characters are as I know them right now. They might tell me something different as I continue writing the series, and I won’t fight them to force them into a previously defined box. I had that recently where Jahta basically punched me in the face in the middle of a scene and screamed I’M ACE BEYOTCH. So... y’know, work in progress, room for growth and change, ect ect.

Death-born human, female, full mage marks displayed

Death-born mages are burdened with a sense for the dead and the dying, frequently hearing the whispers of those just beyond the veil when spirits have remained intact after death and are yet to commit themselves to the void. Their markings spread over their bodies like the withered remains of vines and trees, not unlike the dried up husks that one sees through the barren season of winter-- though one should also remember that those same husks bloom back to life in spring... likewise, spirits that a death-born mage lay to rest have their colors return to the world, painted into new souls, new beings, and given new life. 

Death-born mages are given a specific kind of reverence within the world of Cohime, as their birthright is that of ensuring the dead pass on rather than remain as monsters to hunt the living. Furthermore, their unique ability to speak to the recently dead allow them to act as detectives and investigators in the case of murders or assassinations... though their ability to silence the dead also makes them good assassins in their own right.

Fire-born human, female, full mage marks displayed

And here we are, following up yesterday’s post of the earth-born markings with fire... which, I must admit, is one of my favorite elements, possibly in part because, based on my birth-date and time, these would be my markings. 

Fire-born markings tend to take over large areas of skin, and can actually range in color from orange to yellow to red, depending on the person. The pattern tends to mimic flames, sparks, and swirls of smoke, and when on full display is warm to the touch. Fire-born mages tend to run a little warmer than others as a general rule, and there are a number of myths that center around fire-born women bending the first tamed dragons to their will by fighting said dragons flame vs. flame.
