Why Cult PSA is actually a great social commentary
-
Okay so if anyone outside of the fandom finds this, which probably won’t happen because we basically exist in a vacuum, hi! Cult PSA, or cpsa is this really weird series of low quality videos depicting some characters (presumably at least two are under 18, so keep that in mind), and these characters run/are a part of a cult trying to get you to join. The videos themselves are bizarre and rather funny, with some form of lore I’ll explain to newbies in a different post.
But like I said, that’s a different post.
Most of the “fandom” (it’s like five people lmao) is mostly there for the obscurity and memes, but I think cpsa is actually in its core a social commentary, and may be deeper than just shock value and weirdness.
Cpsa heavily featured themes of escapism and religious guilt. One of the main characters known literally as The Messiah, the wide-eyed nonhuman entity that runs this barely-functioning cult, is often referring to a higher power known as The Stars. If we are to take this character literally, they are presumably a god stuck on earth in a human body. In the “cpsa is a social commentary” lense, I think The Messiah represents unreality, or escaping from your reality.
The other main character is Jawn. He’s 17 and heavily implied to be trans, and he was hinted at being kidnapped from a Girl Scouts meeting (???). He’s odd, and at first you may think he’s in danger with the way The Messiah threatens him, he’s actually high-ranked and secretly respected by them. Jawn is finding your own reality.
He’s not really a main character, but the third most occurring character is Hawkeye, Jawn’s adopted brother that was possibly grown from a box??? The lore is really weird. He’s… a whole different post. I think he represents being unaware of reality.
This is all my interpretations, so take it all with a grain of salt. No matter whether or not cpsa is brilliant satire or something weirder, I’m choosing to interpret it in this way. To me it represents the social view around reality. But that is just me.
Anyway, to those who haven’t watched it, Cult PSA is weird and campy and weirdly entertaining, so I’ll link the official videos in a different post for those who want them. Reminder to new peeps, there’s a lot of controversy around Cult PSA so tread lightly. I heard a rumor that the creators are making an official account somewhere, but Idrk.
Stay weird!

If anyone finds the full Cult PSA video pls pls PLS post it if possible. I can only find the blooper real which while fucking hilarious doesn’t have the same vibe as the clips I’ve managed to find from Cult PSA. Ik this fandom is basically non existent but I am very brainrotted about this and would love the full thing
