when the character makes the most pathetic, heartbreaking sound after being disturbed - they got moved and it made their injury hurt, or maybe they're just so exhausted and they're trying to communicate "please let me rest" - yeah. yeah. more of that.

A character now held securely in a companion's arms lets themself bury their face in the companion's collar and let go, letting all the activity around them simply wash over them, refusing to make any effort to confront it, trusting the companion will handle things from here and indulging in the fact that they no longer have to worry about the situation- their companion has it well in hand, they've go them well held as well in their arms, and now they can just fall apart a little bit, for a little while, and not be expected to do anything further.

A character who tries, and fails, to get up but genuinely does not seem to realize they're incapable of it or is confused as to why they're back on the ground or still on the bed and just keeps trying and getting nowhere, whether in the midst of delirium or so deep in shock or stupifyingly exhausted that they simply cannot grasp their current inability and so keep on trying, heedless of any further mischief they may be doing themself.

A character praising another throughout caring for/treating/tending to the other character, telling them what a good job they're doing, how brave they're being, how well they're responding to instructions, how proud they are of them- a litany of reassurance specifically praising the character being subjected to potentially painful treatment or wound tending for what they're enduring.

An incapacitated character who is aware enough of their surroundings and the activity around them but too weak or out of it to actively participate- watching proceedings blearily from where they lie or slump, through half-lidded eyes and scarce able to lift their head, possibly unable to so much as speak; reduced to a mere spectator as others around them continue the action.

A character looks at another who is clearly not doing well- at the extremis of exhaustion, in emotional tatters, minorly but miserably ill, waterlogged, pervadingly chilled, looking like they've been dragged backwards through a hedge or several- and just opens their arms and says to them "Come here-" which is all the invitation the woebegone character needs to fall into their companion's arms to be wrapped in their embrace.

Checking in on someone while they sleep
-Peeking through the door after hearing the whimpers of whumpee having a nightmare
-Caretakers having to wake whumpee up at night to check their vitals/temperature/bandages
-A guard checking to see if their prisoner is still where they should be
-A warm smile as caretaker sees whumpee sleep well for the first time in so long
-Whumpee peeking into their friend's room just to make sure they're still there and they aren't alone

a character fainting in the middle of being lectured by their captain for something they did wrong, both worrying them and explaining why they'd made the mistake in the first place, is soooooo good

Whumper comforting Whumpee after torture.
They polish the bloody knife, place it back in its case, and walk back towards a cowering, shaking Whumpee.
Whumper pulls them into their arms, carefully caressing their face and playing with their hair. Whispering comforting phrases in their ear, yet they're still laced with the hint of a threat.
"Shh... shh... It's over for now."
"You look so pretty all covered in blood."
"You've taken it so well."
"You're so tired... don't fight me, I'm done for today."
"Those screams of yours... Good job, today's were so beautiful. I can't wait to see what tomorrow brings."
This soon becomes routine. At first, Whumper has to hold Whumpee down, they're thrashing around, scared and miserable and tired. Soon, that exhaustion overcomes them. They sink into the arms of the person that hurts them, allowing themselves the only comfort they'll ever receive now.

Find them!
Good whump words in all variants. So have some prompts you can hear :) from calm and collected to most desperate.
- Whumpee hiding in a darkened room. They hear the door open, hear multiple sets of footsteps enter, getting closer, walking past. Then a calm "Find them".
- Whumper bending over, picking up the remnants of cut rope. He straightens back up, looks around. A click of the tongue. This is an inconvenience.
- A blood trail leading to the woods (Whumper: calm, with a smile. Caretaker: a little less calm)
- The captives have escaped, but the building is sealed anyway.
- The (snow) storm is getting more extreme and Whumpee hasn’t come back yet. "We have to find them!"
- Whumper has been signalled nearby and Whumpee (oblivious) is out.
- Caretaker realising in the midst of chaos that Whumpee isn't among them anymore.
- Whumper who has just been shot (bonus if sniper) or punched to the ground screaming in rage, "Find them!"
- Caretaker crying, pleading with the rescue team.
- Whumper slamming the door to their office open. Surprise :) the precious thingamajig / important documents / hostages are missing.
- Whumper finding the cell empty. And the bigger badder Whumper is waiting for them.

Whumpee has terrifying nightmares every night and Caretaker refuses to leave their side. When Whumpee jolts awake they’re there to calm them back down with gentle touches and soft phrases. They rub Whumpee’s back, stroke their face and brush back their hair, simultaneously speaking to them in a hushed voice.
The quiet whispers of shh, it’s okay, there’s nothing to be afraid of and I’m right here, you’re safe, soothe Whumpee back into a sleepy haze, safely and contently curled up against Caretaker.

One of my favorite tropes has got to be a sick villain waking up on the hero's couch, initially calm with the knowledge they're comfortable and being looked after, until they try and move and find their hands cuffed above them
