Mayuzumi sighs right into Akashi's face as the latter adjusts his tie knot. Akashi wrinkles his nose like Mayuzumi hasn't just brushed his teeth to a shine and gargled a litre of mouthwash, even though they're about to head to a catered event. "Remind me why I'm doing this again?"

"Because I asked you to, very nicely," says Akashi. He takes a step back and sweeps a measuring look over Mayuzumi's suit.

"Couldn't you have cited some out-of-town emergency and ditched?"

"My father would have airlifted me out. It's important for our reputation that the business partners know I am capable of maintaining stability should anything happen to him."

"Fuck your father," says Mayuzumi.

"I hope you don't mean that, or I'd get jealous."

Mayuzumi snorts. "One Akashi is more than enough for a lifetime." He resists the urge to tug at his stiffly starched collar and holds his arms out. "Well?"

"You look good," says Akashi, tilting his head and wetting his lips. His eyelashes dip, coyly shielding his gaze. "Very good."

Akashi does too. Then again, he always does. "I mean, if you want to be fashionably late," says Mayuzumi, "I'm always up for a little--"

"Not a chance. But perhaps, if you're good tonight, and don't snarl when you speak…"

Mayuzumi rolls his eyes. "Please, I am a constant delight."

Akashi reaches up to prod gently at Mayuzumi's face, the corner of his mouth and between his brows. "And none of that scowling either."

"Ugh, whatever." Mayuzumi can't resist; he leans down to kiss Akashi but Akashi nimbly steps away.

"I believe our ride is here," says Akashi, smiling.

It's been years but Akashi's smiles still manage to hit Mayuzumi in the chest like a ton of bricks, every time. "You're the worst," he accuses.

"So I've been told," says Akashi, holding the door open for Mayuzumi. "Let's see if you're still saying that at the end of tonight."

Mayuzumi muffles a groan of frustration with the back of his hand. "Fuck you."

"Like I said, later."

♔ KING - Osamu. Strategically important, and the piece linking the rest of them together. Weak in terms of firepower and defense but even that can be used to great effect, if used wisely. 

♕ QUEEN - Chika. The piece with the most firepower and also excellent in defense, but also can incur a great loss if captured. Depending on your strategy, can be used with caution or as a sacrifice...

♗ BISHOP - Jin. Good firepower and range, and good for slipping in behind and infiltrating the enemy. But care needs to be taken that the rest of your soldiers don’t hinder his movements.

♘KNIGHT - Yuuma. Has a distinct, unorthodox movement pattern, which makes it excellent for attacking multiple pieces at once. However, the range of attack is limited. Also I’m rereading WT and the idea of Kuuga as Osamu’s knight?? hits something raw I tell ya

♖ ROOK - Hyuse. Reliable and strong in both defense and attack. Can easily switch between guarding the king to attack in combination with another piece.

♙PAWN - the trion monsters i guess???

Why did nobody in Fullmetal Alchemist carry around some fucking backup transmutation circles. Like Riza is there with a box full of fresh gloves for Roy when he gets soaked but you’d think after the first time he got rendered useless in a fight by some dude with a water bottle he’d start carrying around a spare set in a waxed bag or something but NOOOOO. And Ed’s even fucking worse like his arm gets destroyed how many times???? AND HE ACTS SURPRISED EVERY TIME. OH NO MY ARM. NOW I CAN’T ALCHEMY. Shit, boy, draw some transmutation circles ahead of time and keep em in your coat, this isn’t hard. “Oh no, you’ve destroyed my arm again, whatever shall I SIKE” Ed says, before throwing a rock with ‘explode’ written on it at his attacker and making good his escape. Everyone’s always carving shit into their skin or drawing it in their own blood, HOW BOUT INSTEAD YOU CARRY A PIECE OF FUCKING CHALK. Alchemists are useless
