I started volunteering at this farm share program a couple years ago, where I help pass out boxes of veggies in exchange for some veggies for myself, which is great for a broke grad student but it led to me creating truly the most visually ABHORRENT meal I have ever made in my life.

I got some purple carrots, right? And I was excited because they're (A) free carrots and (B) they're purple, which is not something you see often. They taste just like regular carrots, so after devouring one to test the flavor, I decided that I'd use the rest in an upcoming batch of chicken soup.

MISTAKE. THAT WAS A MISTAKE.

You see. The thing about purple carrots is that their purpleness does not stay in the carrot when you leave it in a crockpot for like, six hours. The purpleness goes into the soup. It goes into the soup, where it turns the chicken purple. And the onions purple. And the celery, and the garlic, and the noodles, and any other thing you could possibly have put in that soup, varying shades of Very Purple.

I made a GIGANTIC pot of this soup that turned out toxic purple-brown, with individual components stained various ludicrous colors of purple (the noodles were a bafflingly nice shade of lilac) and it was the most dubious thing I've ever eaten. I took this soup to work. My coworkers were so confused and repulsed and I had explain that no, this is actually just soup, just regular chicken soup, but accidentally tie-dyed by the addition of two (2) purple carrots.

And you wanna know the real kicker as I explained all this? The carrots? The formerly purple carrots?

They ended up green.

I hope every writer who sees this writes LOADS the next few months. Like freetime opens up, no writers block, the ability to focus, etc etc you're able to write loads & make lots of progress <3

What the... did Samuel Deats really try to diss Ayami Kojima? How can you compare characters that are drawn to be aesthetically pleasing with rape scenes thrown in just for shock value?

Now about Netflixvania as an adaptation: The first two seasons were actually good. No unnecessary sex scenes, no inconsistent writing (at least not to the extent of season 4), just great animation, good pacing and well-written scenes & characters (best examples: Alucard vs Trevor, the way Sypha, Trevor and Alucard start to warm up to each other, and the trio’s attack on Dracula’s castle). Well, and the occasional crude joke, but it wasn’t over the top. The problems started in season 3 which felt more like filler than a real season and ended with unnecessary rape. And then they dropped the ball completely in season 4... It’s like they just didn’t care at that point and threw in whatever random stuff crossed their mind. Let’s take the pacing for example: Seriously, what was that pacing?! It’s been a while since I watched the series, but I remember that when I watched season 4, it felt like entire scenes were missing. The dialogue reminded me of a bad gag dub or South Park episode (why did they have to make almost everyone swear like a sailor? Sure, there was cussing in the other seasons too, but not to that extent.). And lastly, to get back to topic: if they really wanted to make the series “mature” and grimdark with the rape scenes, then they should have kept it mature and grimdark (at least for a few episodes) and not retconned it in the very next season. They should have taken the time to explore the effect of the twins’ betrayal on Alucard more instead of basically making him go “ANYTHING FOR YOU, MY QUEEN!” the nanosecond he meets Greta. You don’t recover from rape that easily.

Also, Lenore... @the-crow-binary, you’re so right about Lenore! She’s one of the best, if not THE best “newcomer” in the series and deserved a much better arc. You couldn’t tell if she was truly on Carmilla’s side or if she had her own agenda, given how good she is at manipulating others. Hector should have had a proper showdown with her (and maybe even the rest of the Council of Sisters) in season 4. It’s so sad that they set up Hector’s character development in season 3 by making him try to stand up to Lenore and then threw it all out of the window in the next season. Why have one of the coolest protagonists in the Castlevania franchise besides Alucard in the series and not let him have even one epic fight? In the series, he’s one of the weakest and flattest main characters. Even Isaac got more character development than him! They really did Hector dirty.

But hey, maybe Castlevania Nocturne will turn out better, now that there’s a new writer. Fingers crossed!

Me: cool. still shittly written and out of place both in a castlevania adaptation and netflixvania itself. also one of those two scenes is humans raping a half-vampire, so the justification doesn’t even hold water…

lol. lmao even. Trying to paint me as some sort of puritan who’s afraid of boobles and faints at the first rape scene 😂 y’all should read Berserk and understand the difference between “rape that has an actual reason to be in the story” and “wank material that’s there out of spite”.
