jiang cheng blaming wen ning for the fall of lotus pier and jin zixuan's death (something wen ning didn't want, consent to or had any agency in doing) vs wen ning yelling at jiang cheng for the golden core transfer (something jiang cheng didn't want, consent to or had any agency in doing) is peak actually. you take two sympathetic characters with insane amount of grief, trauma, guilt, blame and debt between them, and let them go ballistic on each other to avoid unpacking any of that. making each other worse just by appearing in the same sentence together. no political or social expectations getting in the way of their unbridled haterism either. lan wangji wishes he could join.

My unhinged, highly off the walls idea for post cannon is where jl is still not adjusting well to the corruption of the sects, and because teenage angst he rants to jc abt it dramatically. But jc who is not processing all the shit from the temple sees the flaws in the sect system.
Later, jl gets into serious trouble and has a hit out on him. All this happens cuz jl wanted to make good reforms. So jc decides to fix the issue for him and begrudgingly asks wwx to help him change shit. Since wwx moves fast and breaks things, that plus jc's *long term planning* means they r doing good also lwj helps in the bg cuz wwx. So yunmeng bros reconcile. Wwx has also grown and stuff here.
Anyways it goes smoothly till it dosent then junior quadro helps and proves they r not kids no more and earns the older casts respect. And song lan is with them too Sweet moments ensue.
Then, ths group realises that the sect system has to go cuz we need communism or functional anarchy or something like that. Anyways it's a good new system. And ofc jgy's corpse/spirit gets possessed and he gives them the idea.
Anyway later they meet OC person who has similar revolutionary ideas and the backing of common people. So they decide to join the cause.
All the while jc is going thru an identity crisis cuz who is he if not SLJ. Then he discovers having a personality and enjoying hobbies and shit. On the side the revolutionary gang succeeds and BOOM utopia (theoretical cuz change takes time). So wwx gets closure for the wens. Also during this junior quadro makes more friends and become OVERPOWERED AS HELL bcz y the fuck not.
After that jc gets to get rid of all the massive amounts of responsibility he has. And also accepts his parents r human and made a lot of fucking mistakes. And when he finally lets go of the title, he finds true happiness.
So he helps the new system of governance plan and stuff cuz he's got experience building shite up from the ground and obvi nhs helps (he was secretly helping from the beginning). And jl is happy and concerned cuz jc is emotionally regulated now. Wwx is horrified but like proud.
So 10 yrs later BOOM practical utopia. The End.
#jiang cheng#wei wuixan#lan wangji#nie huaisang#jin ling#mdzs#the cast joins up with actual revolutionaries#This has no basis in any realm but it cud work ngl#not serious

Today as I scrolled thru jc's tag i was suddenly reminded of San Dan Glokta. And honestly I think post trilogy Glotka could give jc therapy and wwx. And also torture tips cuz that man was a professional.
#jiang cheng#sand dan glokta#i dont say the therapy is great#also can some of yall get into the first law trilogy#cuz the lack of yassified logan ninefinger and adree brought me to tears#it still does#not as a ship but as individuals#adree×glokta#the first law#wei wuixan

Logen Ninefingers is such a masterful spin on show, don't tell, I mean, god damn. Because from his very first appearance he TELLS you that he's a monstrous killer with a trail of bodies behind him and even his comrades live in terror of him and there's an extremely good reason why he doesn't have any friends and ends up chased away from the North like a rabid dog. But what the narration SHOWS is an introspective, self-reflective, downright affable guy who doesn't mean any harm and abhors violence and I mean, it's such a war-torn setting, amirite, who can afford being a pacifist, it's not like he enjoys the Bloody Nine and he only kills antagonists and demons from hell when in that state anyway, can we really be sure this golden retriever isn't just overly hard on himself?
And then the show catches up with the tell and oh my fucking god.
I mean... he did tell you.

With the knowledge that I may be starting something I don’t have the guts to finish, I’ve been seeing a lot of Jiang Cheng stans hating on Wei Wuxian because he didn’t keep his promise to the Jiangs recently and it made me think of something else I heard to do with politics that I think might be quite interesting.
Essentially one of the differences between left and right wing political leanings I believe is the prioritisation of self versus others. Essentially right wing people are more likely to support things that protect themselves and immediate family even at the expense of others and left wing people are more likely to vote to disadvantage themselves or their neighbours for the sakes of people further afield but in more need—-as they see it.
And I feel like the above argument about wei wuxian’s actions being ‘bad’ captures this quite well as from a left leaning stand point, he is correct in his actions as he’s always striving to protect the vulnerable even at the cost of his reputation and family. The fact that wwx and lwj are supposed to represent what mxtx regards as a perfect mortality (sorry i do not know the exact wording or quote), as well as how mdzs is a novel that heavily criticises the hyporcritical treatment of different classes and is also quite literally written in an almost rebellion against the illegality of gay romance kind of accentuates the more promotion of more left wing/socialist ideals within the story and the rebellion against the centralisation of power within ab ‘elite group’.
Those who condone wwx with the above argument are looking at it potentially from a more right leaning standpoint as where family comes first and a person’s integrity is based on how well they keep their word in any situation wei wuxian does act incorrectly. Whether wei wuxian’s actions are condonable I think comes down to what each reader prioritises as instrinsic to morality and that varies with many things including philosophies and religions and political leanings and by no means is there Only one reason to defend of condemn any characters actions. I’m well aware that more jc stans are probably just trying to moralise their fictional crushes, but I think it’s still interesting how in novels we’re more willing to defend behaviour that in the present we’d call selfish.
If I told someone today I was never going to forgive my adopted brother for flying out to I don’t know, California to help put out forest fires instead of help me with my business pitch on shark tank like he Promised, I would probably get laughed at for being a prick. Whilst stans view Jiang Cheng behaviour as completely acceptable.
Notably I do think mdzs doesn’t paint left wing ideals as utopian as many character that Could be left wing, xie xingcheng, song lang, lan xichen etc are also heavily criticised for their actions and inaction.
#This puts into words every feeling i have ever had about this novel#reblogging so i can reread this whenever😭

Gnarly by Katsye unintentionally(or intentionally) is a great metaphor for the hypocritical nature of humanity.
Hear me out: From the song, if you take away that everything and everyone is gnarly, which is a valid takeaway that is supported by text, you will see an immediate contradiction
"You are gnarly, Im not"
The lyricsist believes they themself are not gnarly. But how can that be true when everything is gnarly. It can't. This highlights our tendency to think of ourselves as the exception when we are simply not. Thinking about it on a larger scale, it also calls out Anthropocentrism.
Putting that aside, from the reactions to the song clearly reveals flaws that we as a collective struggle with, impulsivity, and the inability to accept our own changing views. I truly believe that the reason gnarly didn't click on first listen was because it was sonically so different from the music landscape of the time. That is also why it grew on people so quickly. I experienced this same phenomenon last year with ttpd.
Some people say it's similar to ai slop, but it isn't the song was a satire written and conceptualised prior to the explosion of gen ai. Others say that the product placement in the song takes away from the point. I think however that it adds to it. This is a similar phenomenon to pop punk bands that are signed to big labels.
Not to mention gnarly is a great litmus test for judging people.
If someone loves gnarly wholly and completely - no clear answer can be derived
If someone hated gnarly on the first listen immediately decided to post and then a) changed their mind - impulsive but possibly fine. Depends on how much of that they acknowledge
b)is still not a big fan but decides let it go/accepts that other people can enjoy -pretty ok but a bit impulsive
c) Still hates on it- run don't walk away.
Anyway u get the idea.

I like jc not because he is uwu perfect senpai who massacres bitches on the siiidee like-
I know he isn't. I like the concept of a character who shows up constantly for the people he cares about (in the ways he can )and is taken for granted. Unlike wwx, who does great big things for people, but like on the daily, he is more akin to a YouTube prankster bro (lol). For example, take cloud recess, jc deadass carried wwx on his back cuz he was in pain and he stood with man when he was punished or post-war when wwx was kinda spiralling into alcoholism and not working, it can be inferred that his life is basically supported by jc.
Or better with jin ling because even though jc is not particularly good at parenting, he still shows up and is someone jin ling can fall back on. And where I think he differs from his mom is that he actually helps jin ling and is more concerned about his well-being than his achievements (all though the way he expresses it may not be the best for jl's mental health😬). You can't deny that even though he is imperfect, he is there. This is clearly highlighted in the insence burners that we hear from jingyi that jc and wn are able to be in the same vicinity w/o 💀ing (all tho they almost might have but like-) each other. And that is because they both have to protect their younger relatives(game recognises game)(also wn is based for not 💀ing jc too). This is after the gc reveal, and jc deciding to keep his sacrifice to himself. And uk seeing wn after that must be conflicting.
Also, the quiet work that must go into rebuilding a Sect. Like I did not gaf abt jc until I learned that LP looked bigger! Like I was so proud of the man. Like that was an aura gain moment fr.
+ even though he was not as good as wwx(although unlike a lot of people I think he probably was far above mediocre simply by that fact that he was constantly compared to his more successful peers which would mean he was almost at their level but slightly lacking, like the worst among the best if uk what I mean abd his power increase with wwx core was something lwj believed he could reasonably achieve due to war). Also, even though being insulted pisses him off, he rolls with that shit.
I swear jc would really be a chill guy if he learned emotional regulation. Also, with his political success, I imagine he can behave rationally even post res if he isn't under ludicrously traumatising situations. Unfortunately, that's mostly where we see him at. And I think it's fair to think that there's a side to him we don't see especially after the ending reveal. Usually twists like that are there so you can check your biases
#jiang cheng#wei wuixan#lan wangji#wen ning#ngl i kinda fuck with him#also i will petition for him to release a long term planning guide. i need that to prepare for uni#dont war ppl#also dont torture#knock that shit off#fr#im not sure what jc isnt but i can say he is gnarly#As everything is gnarly#and i will always fuck with characters that are most likely to be severely depressed#depression :: me like the concept of a char

Uk jc vs lwj and wwx is kinda vaguely similar to iron man vs steve and bucky. Like very vaguely..very very vaguely does anyone else see this????? Although the avengers is more of a neutral perspective and mdzs explains wwx's side of the story.
#jiang cheng#wei wuixan#lan wangji#civil war#iron man#captain america#wangxian#stucky#like do u c it#i feel like someone can explain this better than me

For all intends and purposes, this is a joke and does not claim to reflect reality.
When NHS's whole plan is revealed and the part about how he basically manipulated an orphan into self murder....and thought close enough welcome back Johan Liebert.
#nie huaisang#mo xuanyu#mdzs#johan liebert#monster#dark humor#i know theyre not exactly alike#but theyve both done this. Johan was a lot faster and direct abt it tho.....

I'm new to this so forgive me if I'm wrong but....I just finished mdzs and over here and on reddit a lot of people treat Jiang Cheng as a villain. I just get the impression that narratively he is more of an antagonist who eventually (reluctantly) joins the party of heros. Like isn't the whole ending twist there for us to recontexualise his actions ? Although he is somewhat less moral than the protagonists, he isn't exactly evil. Him and wei wuxian do a lot of similar things in retrospect the only major difference being that wei wuxian is charming and jiang cheng has a shitty personality.
Like acc to seemingly popular opinion , when wei wuxian tortures his enemies graphically using all kinds of awful methods is OK because they are bad. When jiang cheng shows wei wuxian a dog after asking him to talk its bad?
Also I personally thought we were supposed to understand that jiang cheng was going in a negative spiral since resseruction and acting worse towards jin ling hence why he is increasing scared of a more unstable jiang cheng and why his statement about him not being hit before is true. Also note that this scene occurs after wei wuxian hits jin ling. Infact they both hit him after this too. And even at the end wei hits him while jiang cheng doesn't. Also lan than using silencing spells on children is fine?
When jiang cheng chokes wei wuxian after the lotus pier genocide it's awful (it obvi is). But wei wuxian hitting wen ning for killing jin zixuan is OK somehow?
The one thing wei wuxian was more right in is the wen situation, and I commend him for his anti genocide views.
But also is everyone gonna ignore the sexual assaults both the male leads commit? Like I know dub con is popular in the genre but are yall soo desensitised to it? Also wei wuxian is a bit of a creep in general ??? Like I can't get past the sexyal assaults.
#jiang cheng#wei wuixan#genocide is bad#but so is sa#canon jiang cheng#the leads are not paragons of morality#unless you think sa is moral
