In general I think we would free ourselves from a lot of dark content discourse if people were more sincere about the fact that a lot of dark subject matter is inherently disgusting and it is normal and okay to experience disgust after consuming fiction about those topics. but it is equally normal for someone to compartmentalize a fictional experience enough that they're unfazed over it. this sort of compartmentalization is not specific to dark content; you can apply it to nonsexual violence in fiction, non-violent tragedies in fiction (such as a movie about a dog dying), or even things like true crime documentaries. the ability to interface with dark content is not a question of your moral compass, it's a question of your ability to compartmentalize emotionally challenging media from your own life. just my two cents as a dark content writer lol

satoru and suguru are both hoarders when it comes to the other.

they both keep mementos, trinkets, and even what others would call "trash" from each other.

that bottle cap from one of satoru's sugary drinks with an expiration date of sept 2007? yeah suguru kept it along with all of the other things satoru has given him.

the silly doodle of agumon that suguru made for satoru after he told the other that he "couldnt draw a stick figure, let alone a digimon"? yeah satoru has it pinned to one of his walls.

they're like corvids, keeping shiny things that remind them of the other person.

after all, that's all they have left of the other now. just things and old memories.

Satoru curling up in Suguru's bed after he leaves and comforting himself in the familiar scent of his sheets and pillow case. Maybe he has a tshirt hanging on the back of a chair, worn only once and never washed, because suguru thought he was coming back.

Satoru crawls inside it, still smelling of suguru, and his faint deodorant still lingering. He spends days in a shirt that's not his, on a bed that isn't his either. And then, after, when he has to wash the shirt, he deliberates that decision for the longest time, and when it comes back smelling like fresh laundry, it's like he's losing suguru all over again.

Until he finds suguru's deodorant, and that feels like hope. He uses it, and he keeps surprising himself with how unfamiliar he smells and also how much NOT like suguru it is. It's almost like the chemical on his skin is different from the smell that suguru carried. And it drives him up the wall that he cannot preserve his smell, he cannot use the same thing that suguru used and get the same results, no matter how many times he tries.

To all my writers who have a tough time with smut terms and not knowing which ones to use, I have found the holy grail for us.

This reddit user, who I've recently found out is @kjscottwrites here on tumblr, took a poll of 3,500 people and went really in depth with asking their favorite terminology, along with actual pie charts on what the readers preferred to see in their smut.
