Poor Scanlan. Someone finally saw through his veneer of humour and understood him on a deeper level than I think he has experienced since his mother. And then that person was brutally killed protecting him from an ancient dragon.

A creature with almost all the knowledge in the world. That was the creature who knew he was lonely. It took all the knowledge in the world to see Scanlan for who he really was.

And now he is back to being the same old Scanlan who has seen people die time and time again, while he's left telling their stories to the people who didn't understand him like he thought the dead did.

Moments of Caleb being being sweet and soft towards Jester, #MightyNeinReunited remix:

- OOC, but Liam being really worried Jester would die in the beginning.

- Caleb telling Jester it was good to hear from her first and foremost in responding to her anxious message.

- Liam SPECIFICALLY making it so Caleb had a separate entrance from the rest of the group on the beach so his welcome wouldn’t be lost in the sauce, Jester going “it’s Caleb shark!”, and her hugging him when he turns back- and him getting a little flustered like he does, going “oh hey hi Jester.”

- Caleb bluescreening when Jester said she died (she didn’t).

- Caleb saying “ready to play our old game again… friend?” to Jester regarding polymorphing into eagles (and making a blank face after confirming Fjord would be doing so as well).

- Breathing a sigh of relief when Jester touching the gem didn’t hurt her.

- When Jester gets poisoned in the jungle, he asks if this is something she can fix, and when she’s still coughing, he makes an empathetic face and says they’ll wait for her.

- Again OOC, but Liam calling Jester’s monkey impression “adorable.”

I am a firm believer that the BBC Merlin fandom will never die, therefore neither will the institution of BBC Merlin. There are still accounts on tumblr talking about it, making content for it. And now there are tiktok accounts talking about and making content for it.

There will come a time, when the world is finally ready, when someone will pick it up again. It won't be a sixth season, though. It will be a new series, of Merlin in the modern world, looking for Arthur, or whatever version of Arthur this world could give him. And, if the stars are aligned, if the gods are content, if the moon allows, it will be gay. Hopefully.

I think it's the ALMOST canon ships that get the best, most intricately woven, beautifully told fanfiction.

those nearly-kind-of-almost-maybe-could-be canon couples

the ones that make it almost painful to live with the knowledge that if just one or two things had happened differently, just one or two things: if one of them had said something differently here, done something differently there, or if certain events had shifted a little, just a fraction, they'd have been together - undoubtedly.

you can see it. everyone can see it. but it's not enough - they're still an almost-but-not-quite, maybe-but-it-was-never-confirmed, kind-of-but-annoyingly-ambiguous

fanfiction writers take their potential and they hold it close and they lovingly craft something amazing and beautiful with it - finally giving them the chance to be together like everyone knows they would be in-canon if the story wasn't against them

they spring out entire novels from canon-divergence in the places where just a little step in another direction could have led to them being together

they build whole intricate Alternate Universes where the characters are able to meet in an entirely different way and still fall for each other

what I'm saying is that the insanity of a ship where it was almost-canon drives writers to a specific kind of creative madness that produces the best fanfiction....

so if you check out my graph here you can see the line for the more almost it gets vs the more unhinged and motivated it makes the writers both rising in a wonderfully clear diagonal line and today I will be discussing the

Me: the entirety of my happiness now depends on what happens between these two fictional characters. I have boarded this ship and I’m not leaving. I have sold my house so I can live on it. I will sail on the winds of subtext and follow the sexual tension like the North Star that it is. I will do this until the very end, until it crushes on the rocks of canon and gets swallowed by the ocean of emotional blue balls and I drown in the disappointment and emptiness that follows.
